  • @zombyfart Thank you! The 3 tracks involved there give me a trio of equal length passing tracks, that go around the yard. All this was powered by 1 MRC Tech4 280 dualpack transformer.

All my little productions, short of the single-train videos, require a few test runs, and often have many takes before I get one I'm happy with.

    Thanks for watching!!

  • nice N scale stuff! keep up the good work

  • @metraF40PH163 Thanks for watching!!

  • with kato switches its hard to wire them to actually electrically switch them because the wires are too short do they make extensions for the wires?

  • They make about a 4 or 6 foot extension, not sure, but I'll look it up for you. They aren't cheap.

I kept my turnouts manual to prevent burnout. It's not an easy fix if you burn one out after getting the scenery down.

You could do cheaper exact length wires by taking one of Kato's extensions, cut it in the middle, and splice in an equal gauge wire, keeping the modular Kato ends to the controls and turnouts.

  • Wow!!...I was off a lot. Kato turnout extension cord is 35 inches long at $3.75 a cord.

  • Why not lop off the end and add your own wire between the turnout and the plastic connector clip at the end. Then you can make these as long as you like without getting taken to the bank for every Kato extension you need. I use the Kato crossover, #6 & #4 turnouts and I also like to throw those manually and haven't bother with getting their electric turnout throws. Getting those plus the extensions can get really expensive.

  • Actually, I've cut the plug end off the Kato wires and used Radio Shack wire from there to my Atlas selector switches.

You're right....to fully wire it with the Kato modular method and controls would be an astronomical price indeed.

  • @HoosierLine that's what i do

  • Nice N&W J class!

  • Having seen the real one numerous times, I had to have one for my museum.

The one you see is from Bachmann's first design in 1988. Very poor runner.

The J you see in my videos is the newer, improved version, that is much, much better.

    Thanks for watching!!

  • is this DCC?

  • DC only, although I have Athearn's Challenger and Bachmann's DD40AX

  • get DCC, its so much better than conventional DC. you can have sound effects and everything. plus its incredibly easy to wire for

  • Thanks, but NO!

I am quite happy with DC, it works for what I want it to, and I don't have to pay extra to make my trains work.

Not everyone has to have sound, power switches, and all the other hype that comes with DCC.

  • ok, whatever suits you. but i just got DCC and i love it! the sound system on my F45 is amazing!

  • You have a lot of locomotives and waggon, but you should think about build own "small world", because trains on the table don't good look... :|

  • Indeed, I am......but I have a hobby budget that I must stick to(sometimes), so the money gets spread around the entire layout a little at a time.

    Thanks for watching!!!

  • Do you wire your switches?

  • No, they are all manual. I do not want to risk one burning out after scenery is done. Kato track would not be as forgiving if I needed to pull it up for a replacement turnout.

Most turnouts are located within 8 steps of the control panel, and with my "no reach" track design, none are where I can't get to them.

  • Are you going to ballast the track? You have a TON of rolling stock and locomotives. Nice video!

  • Yes......if you look at my #31 video you can see where I've started in that area. Not a great job, but then again, I'm not looking for perfection.

Close to 500 cars, about 75 of them passenger cars, about 130 locos.....been collecting for well over 3 decades.

    Thanks for watching!!

  • why is it so slow

  • They are running slower because they are moving through the train yard area.

I would say, matched with a real train, these are still moving too fast.

  • I would think that the Amtrak would have higher priority. Oh well, nice vid. I look forward to new ones.

  • Well......let's just say the Amtrak was ahead of schedule....wait while I laugh on that one!.....and the coal train had a whole lot of momentum! LOL!!

  • where did you get the blue intermodal cars at 2:07? i've been looking for some

  • That is a Deluxe Innovations 5-unit articulated Gunderson Twin-Stack set. It's got great detail, but is extremely light, even with containers, so I run it at the end.

It was bought in a hobby shop in Bridgeport, West Virginia, only one they had. Esther's Hobby Shop in Millvale, PA had some a few years back. They do mail order there.

  • yeah they are veeeeeeeery light. i have two and they need some waits

  • Hello, I have found that the gunderson center of gravity is very low and it will not derail like you would expect it too when a long train is formed, I use about 16 five packs on one train 5 kato engines pulling it goes through over 35 turnouts or all makes.. They are supposed to be light, thanks.

  • What a fine layout. Very realistic. I had no idea that one of those little motors can haul 60 cars? How is that possible?

    David

  • All 8 locos moving in this video are powered...no dummy engines here. It takes 3 to get that coal train around the entire layout.

  • Oh, I see. Thanks for the reply. I've got a lot to learn. Keep up the good work.

  • oops!, i mean the SLOW pace of the trains

  • very nice , i like the low pace of the trains, like a real freight yard

  • is the the track bachmann e-z buld track?

  • Kato Uni-track. Expensive, but well worth it!

  • man i wish i had something like that how much would all that cost you ???

  • I can only guess, but in the neighbor hood of $10 grand +. Many pieces were gifts, something someone was going to throw away, etc. Almost every piece was bought at a very good discount.

Always looking for a deal, I've kept my costs to about 55-60% of the MSRP list price. That amount has been spread out over 34 years.

  • Very nice, I've been to a few train shows myself in Kitchener, Ontario. Question... N or HO scale, N scale is the larger version correct?

  • Thank you. N scale is smaller than HO.

  • N scale is to small, ho is better.

  • god!!! it is the video most bored that I have seen..

  • You better watch your mouth when saying such things. Horribly Oversized scale cannot compete with the wonderful scale of N. All I can say about this video however is that I wish I was in your will. I am impressed with the serious money you have chuggin around

  • Will?? No will, I'm taking it with me.

I'm not showing up at the Pearly Gates, only to have St. Peter ask..........

"Where the heck is that train set?"

  • Awesome vid man!!! This was by far one of the best that I've seen. I look forward to more vids from you!!

  • videos ini bagus

  • Terima kasih!

    Thank you!

  • videos ini bagus

  • hey, y not try showing all of the place for a video? nice layout. i wish i had. =)

  • It's too big to show all at once.

Some places also are a little messy, as I move my supplies along the layout as I do scenery.

  • Kato Unitrack is expensive, but I find it's worth every penny as well.

  • I was a firm Atlas man until I tried some Kato for my hidden staging area. It took me a while but I converted the whole thing, including the yard.

If Kato hadn't come along, I would probably have given up!

  • When I got back into N,I did a temporary Bachmann EZ Track deal. Then I decided I wanted a layout with scenery,so I used Atlas, but kept having little issues with the track. Finally I decided I'd try Kato, and have stuck with it ever since. For now,I'm back on a temporary layout again(with unitrack),but when I'm ready to do a permanent layout,I'll stick with Kato.

  • how much do the n scale amtrak cars that u have cost

  • Locos were about $72 each, 6 car Superliner set was about $85, material handling cars on end were about $35 for all 3.

  • thx. i bought 3 superliner cars and 2 engines on sunday.

u have 2 be rich 2 have all of those trains in just that 1 image

  • Not really....I've been collecting N scale cars and locos for over 30 years. My biggest expense as of late has been the switch from Atlas to Kato track.

  • Your rail road must have an NS Dispatcher! Ran that coal train out a head of Amtrak. (LOL) Cant get anymore real than that! Thanks for sharing your RR.

  • It's from a lesson learned long ago.........

Don't step on a black snake!

  • MOVRMAN; Your science of Humor is as good as your Rail Road! Thanks for sharing.

  • It's also the name of a game I play on the layout. Start that monster coal train doing laps, and then move my other 11 trains 1 lap while not stopping the coal train. Sometimes it's not that easy!

  • Your a good train dispatcher and keeping them all moving is a task in its self! A train sitting still isn't making any money!

  • why do mostly all n scale have plastic wheels on freight, and not metal like most other scales?

  • I've got quite of few with metal wheels. I don't know who makes that decision on any certain brand, but I'm sure the choice is made more from a cost point.

  • how big is it the set the train set not talking about andything else lol whoops

  • 17-1/2 feet wide by 23 feet long. Just under 200 square feet of platform.

  • damn

  • gotta lov kato =D say...how many trains is kato that u hav?

  • I have 16 Kato locomotives, and 2 Con-Cor locos that were made by Kato. They can be found cheap if you aren't selective as to roadname. Quality engine power makes the operations much more enjoyable.

  • Got to love them Norfolk Southern units... thank you

  • NS and CSX cross the MOVR with trackage rights. I have 9 NS locos w/the pride of that fleet those 3 SD70MACs w/flared radiators(1 Athearn, 2 Kato).

  • are you using ez tracks

  • It's Kato track. High priced, but worth it since it is almost trouble-free operation.

  • When do we get to see them Auto Train Auto racks? I can't wait to see wht they look like going down the rails!

  • Hey DM! Look at the video I added August 11th. It has my old Superliners with the new autoracks. I have the both Kato sets of new Superliners, but haven't had time to get a new video done.

  • Are they 3 power or 2 power and one dummy locomotive Norfolk Southern ?

  • All 3 are powered. The first 2 are Kato, the 3rd, with the yellow handrails, is an Athearn. I'll own up to why it's this way.......2 would do it, normally, but there was a mistake on board height in the staging area. At 1 area there, my trains have to climb "Miscalculation Hill".

  • I love that you are running them slow. Too many super-speed N-scale videos on youtube.

  • When I video them, I have to run them slower than I usually do, because they still look like they're going too fast.

  • you know im not a huge fan of n scale, but i really like your setup. I like the clash of eras on different trains. I have that on my HO scale layout.

  • The entire layout is designed for easy access. The mix of power comes from 30+ years of collecting. To explain the older mixed with the new......The CB+Q Fs, the DRGW PAs, and the N+W "J" are sitting in a "museum".

  • This Video is excellent. Is this @ a show. If yes then great. Im subscribing and I expect more great videos. Keep up the good work :D.

  • No, not at a show. It's in my attic. Click "more from this user"(if you haven't already) and see my other videos.
