Most of Fairtax isn't even retail -- it's on government wages, benefits, and pensions. Yes,every city, county, and state would have to pay taxes to the federal government on WAGES --- see HR 25, section 2a, subsections 7, 12, and 17.
Furthermore, this tax on wages would have to be paid IN ADVANCE in a lump sum. See Footnote 19, Fairtax document "Comparison of Fairtax Base" page 10.

As to your comment on sales taxes added by states, well you already pay that now on top of your income tax. So it is really the same under any federal tax system.

No one should trust the fair tax scheme because its based on a LIE & false accounting. Instead of calculating the tax owed as the base cost multiplied by the tax rate they quote what % the added tax is of the TOTAL cost (base + tax)
For example, if something cost $100. the fair tax would add on $30. They then calculate the rate as 30/130 = 23%. The REAL tax rate is 30/100 = 30%. The cost is increased by 30% not 23%. If the fair tax is so great why base it on this obvious accounting scam!?

The only mechanism to collect taxes under the fair tax is through sales so it is by definition an exclusive tax on the retail price. Under the current system the max retail price someone making M could afford would be M. Under FairTax the max retail price that could be afforded is 0.9468M. That means less good and less services purchased than the MINIMUM.

A 30% consumption tax would look like this. 12 oz coke. $1.00 today. Would be $1.30 with a fair tax system.
All other taxes would be removed. No income tax, or any other tax. If you are worried about state tax they would go with a Harmonized Sales tax of say 33% overall.
Hidden taxes would also be removed.
Now of course there would be standard deductions. I am not talking about getting rid of all taxes. Just simplifying the system and saving 10 billion dollars a year once the IRS is gone

Most of Fairtax isn't even retail -- it's on government wages, benefits, and pensions. Yes,every city, county, and state would have to pay taxes to the federal government on WAGES --- see HR 25, section 2a, subsections 7, 12, and 17.
Furthermore, this tax on wages would have to be paid IN ADVANCE in a lump sum. See Footnote 19, Fairtax document "Comparison of Fairtax Base" page 10.

You comment on internet sales is a good question, but it is really such a small logistical question that it has little bearing on merit of the fair tax.
As to your comment on sales taxes added by states, well you already pay that now on top of your income tax. So it is really the same under any federal tax system.
Finally, even if prices go up some, it would be more than off set by incomes being much larger because they are untaxed.

Because employees do not provide end services, but rather labor integral to the end product or service they will be exempt from sales tax. What would be taxed though is contract labor like road construction. Here is a point to make, we have too many paved roads in the U.S., we have roads that see 10 cars a day that are paved, why pave them?

Its easy to think about how much it will suck that everything will cost 22% more but don't forget that your paychecks will be 22% larger if not more. Also it will force so many people who get paid under the table to start paying taxes like everyone else (prostitutes, drug dealers, most daycare providers, home improvement handymen, farmhands and the list goes on and on). That will bring in more money as well as the money we would save by not having an IRS (thats alot of money)

No one should trust the fair tax scheme because its based on a LIE & false accounting. Instead of calculating the tax owed as the base cost multiplied by the tax rate they quote what % the added tax is of the TOTAL cost (base + tax)
For example, if something cost $100. the fair tax would add on $30. They then calculate the rate as 30/130 = 23%. The REAL tax rate is 30/100 = 30%. The cost is increased by 30% not 23%. If the fair tax is so great why base it on this obvious accounting scam!?

Why is the prebate calculated as 23% of the minimum cost of living but then re taxed at 30% exclusive? Under the current system if you make the minimum cost (100% must be spent to survive) of living you pay no taxes. You have 100% of your earnings to spend. Under fair tax those making the minimum livable income still pay the 30% exclusive tax leaving them 94.6% of the MINIMUM COST! (1.23/1.3)

@BritBoyProductions if by 19 - 25% you're talking about the inclusive tax rate on income, then if you are making M your fed tax is ZERO. The only mechanism to collect taxes under the fair tax is through sales so it is by definition an exclusive tax on the retail price. Under the current system the max retail price someone making M could afford would be M. Under FairTax the max retail price that could be afforded is 0.9468M. That means less good and less services purchased than the MINIMUM.

Companies will no longer have to pay those taxes, thus market forces drive those costs out and thus we're left with products 19-25% cheaper than they are today.

Thus they have 1.23M to spend.

They have pay 30% on top of any and all money that trades hands. If they hire a consultant, that consultant is required to levy the 30% tax. If they hire external lawyers they have to pay 30% more. If they get any insurance they have to pay 30% more. The fair tax applies to ALL new products and ALL services.

Corporate income tax has a very specific definition. It's a tax levied on corporate PROFIT. The fair tax says nothing about corporate CONSUMPTION. The products you buy will have 30% tagged on to them for every acquisition step occurring in the US needed to bring it to market. If you think outsourcing is bad now just wait for FT!

A 30% consumption tax would look like this. 12 oz coke. $1.00 today. Would be $1.30 with a fair tax system.
All other taxes would be removed. No income tax, or any other tax. If you are worried about state tax they would go with a Harmonized Sales tax of say 33% overall.

what seems to be missing is the change of thinking needed for the fairtax. It doesn't tax until the good or service gets to the retail counter. So all the taxes built currently into our goods and services (income @ about 30%, capital gains, payroll, & all other fed taxes) DIE a painful death. So before the tax is enacted at the counter, the good or service costs significantly less. Does this help?

It's not supposed to deal with the state taxes- because as you say, they exist ANYWAY. So the Fair Tax fixes the Federal tax system... therefore your "problem" is a non-sequitur. It will still help. State income tax isn't nearly as bad, and perhaps they could embrace a similar system, but that is up to each state under the Constitution, which you should study.
