Hey, what settings do you like for 7018? I can't seem to see a difference between DC reverse (which I heard was recommended) vs DC positive. Liked your video-I saw the slag puddling during your weld and thought it was going to turn out looking bad-but I have to remember it is just the slag that is running if one keeps moving. Thanks!
My uphills always turn out under cut, they look smoother but I end up blowing a big hole. I guess I move to slow. Unfortunately I do not have any videos of my uphill attempts.
@ChuckE2009 Good to know, yeah, even Jody from WeldingTipsAndTricks says he practices some. He's been welding for 30+ years. I guess practice will show! Thanks Chuck. :)
good job man, i am in school now, thought i knew what i was doing befor i started, cuz i did it on the job site. well needless to say i didnt. u do good work keep it up. where did u go to school?
hahahaha man that weld if fucking garbage ugly ass fuck no wonder your doing it in a garage on your farm what ugly ass fucking weave bead you need to tighten that thing up. what a wannabe welder an to the person asking him to do sone gmaw u don't wanna learn from him and FYI vertical should be done up man better penetration. what a joke lmao
Awe, Im sorry you doesn't like my videoz... *sniffle*
Seriously, grow up, I dont hate on your videos. Oh right, what videos? If you don't like it, don't watch it. Hit the road and don't let the door hit ya' where the good lord split ya' on your way out.
dude I can get certifications up ass by just viewing your vids... lol , seem like you have of a nack of making things so simple and clear..and a good video cam does help.... when America start to build their high-speed rail systems they would use your vids for basic welding 101
hey Lance...i am currentl taking a welding course at my high school and we have been stick welding until now...i started my GMAW projects and i am struggling on my verticle down butt weld on 3/16 plate. If you wouldnt mind could you do some videos on GMAW welding.
ChuckE2000, what can i say. Your welding videos are in the top two of all youtube welding vids. Sooooo many welding vids on youtube DO NOT show the viewer the shaded arc weld in action couple with your excellent narration! You are so detailed for us. You talk amp settings, steel thickness, rod tips and tricks! (Hint right there on other top welding vid maker). You are number #1 for BEST STICK welder vids. You lead in that caregory! THANK YOU!
I was working with a pipe welder and he was welding 16" sch 80 pipe and after one of his fill passes it literally took me like 15 minutes to knock off the slag, i had files, wire wheels and chisels. the pipe got hot and he was running a little hot so the slag did not want to let go lol.
I was running 85-95 or so, around 90 on the dial which isn't always accurate. Welding vertically takes less heat than in position, just because heat travels upward and heats your workpiece.

when doing the welder qualification testing, i was told no weaving. stringer beads straight up over and over
wade239 2 weeks ago
@wade239
This depends on the test. Weaving is AWS okay, but Im told that the military doesnt allow it. If you are testing for a job, its whatever they want.

@Mr963291
It sounds like you're running too hot, try turning your machine down. "Smoothness" is determined by how far you travel vertically, with each pass.
