sounded great to me, Hemi valve covers are nothing but echo chambers for mechanical valve trains anyway, fast idle at start was normal, typical of twin AFBs, every single Hemi i ever owned was a Cold Natured Beast at start up.
hmm a high performance lamborghini with 800hp and handles like a dream or an aging 1969 dodge charger hemi with 480hp and well dont handle, well at all..............im gonna take the hemi!!
to 812Mizata, Carbs are actually more efficient if properly maintained, the only real advantage to the type of fuel injection used on typical modern production cars is that they need less maintenance and they start more reliably in cold weather
@68chargerlover Nice, a 572 Hemi, how's that puppy on the street? I know the 528 is surprisingly docile on the street with the setup I'm running, and normal throttle travel, but for normal driving I also pu er in as high a gear I can go without stalling the motor, so acceleration is minimum(relatively speaking, shit hits sixty in three seconds). But I bet that 572 sounds beast.
Well i cant reply because im on an iphone, and honestly i dont care what you have, its basically the same car, same engine, i just like how the 70 challenger looks better, yellow with black T-STRIPE, its an opinion thing
@713slipkn0t713 Hell no, the 69 Charger is king of the muscle cars.... Ive got one with a 528 Stroker, started as a 440 block bored .40 over, with a 10.35:1 CR stroker kit, purchased from 440 source.com. and Machined edelbrock performer rpm heads, cam, Hedman elite headers, a six pack, flow machined to match the rest of the components 1500-6500 rpm powerband, cranks out 760 HP@ 6,100; 850 Ft/lbs@ 4,250, back through a beefed tremec 6spd to a dana 60 running 3.55 cogs.
i remember letting my 77 malibu warming up in winter, dual exaust,my mom hollered at me..."eric!!! i thought you had new exaust on that!!!" i kicked it off high idle mom got even madder,LOL
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

The 14 dislikes drive lame hybrids. Why are people questioning your idle? Its sounds prefect after it warms up, any lower and the oil pressure would be too low. Nice vid!!
It doesn't idle too high. It was the fast idle solenoid keeping the RPMs up high when the engine is first turned on and cold. You people act like you've never had a car with a carburetor on it before.
@hemidoug69 My car doesn't have a carb, but my dad's RV has a Chrysler 360 from the 70s. It sounds a lot like this, it lowers the RPMs after about a minute though. Carburetor engines sound so sexy. :)
@arizonaresident1 Let alone one with TWO large 4-barrel carburetors. 8 huge intake valves, a cam that holds the valves open a mile for about a week at a time.....
Fast idle when cold. Hmmmm....Here in Minnesota they ALL fast idle when cold, new, old or what have you.
True, Hemi head engines suppose to be poor on the low RPM. But the sound is unique to those engines..Wonderfull car i wonder what that costs a car like that.
@arizonaresident1 I thought the idle was perfect when it had warmed up. Btw, I had a car with a boring fuel injection system... I sold that old sad piece of plastic long ago.
omg you can actually hear it. unlike a prius. absolutely stunning car. we need a time machine to go back and cherish these beasts like they deserved to be.
@Chiuas666 works with fast idle because engine is cold and choke is engaged (richer mixture and more open throttle), after it warms up choke butterfly opens fully and closes the throttle back to normal
Sure is a sweet sound - better if you used an external professional microphone on the camera. I'd vote the second best sound to a Harley-Davidson bike at idle...
how do u afford a ride like that? amazing. i plan to keep my dads 04 ram 5.7L hemi which is newer but now if you want a hemi in a 2010 ram it needs to be ordered so im hoping when im 80 yrs old itl be worth 50k

@idkhaveaname1369 Thanks! Sounds like you have a nice ride too. I grew up with a 65 300 L in the family....My dad's car. I know just how nice those 300s are...
Is it supposed to idle so fast? And them valves are loud as hell (but I've never heard an idling Hemi before, so maybe they're supposed to sound like that.) And is that a production cam, or does it have a bigger cam in it? Sounds real nice in any case!
It sounds better idling slower...blupbadablupbadablupblapblup... So, by "supposed to sound like that", are you saying that it's the same as it sounded from the factory, or just that it ain't broke. Sure idles nice and lumpy; I just wondered whether you had changed the cam or the timing at all. Maybe I'll get my own someday; I've never had a car anywhere NEAR as cool as that. Good thing I'm not picky about what I drive.
It's just too bad that Ford didn't release the SOHC 427 as a production road option.....Hemi lunch would have been served....Remember they outlawed the SOHC from NASCAR. Dodge knew they would have had their A** handed to them.....
Chrysler had a dual overhead cam Hemi in development. Fords advantage would not have lasted very long, not to mention Chrysler's dominance in the Aero war.
No argument with the Aero war. They (NASCAR) then outlawed the Superbirds didn't they? I know Ford was working on their own areo cars (Talledega, and the Cyclone)
No, they didn't outlaw them, but they did require a limit to the CID of the engine in the following years. I believe that the requirement was to de-stroke the Hemi to 300 some odd cubes. After 71 the Hemi went out of production so it was for a very short time (1 season I believe).
Look, I am a GM guy and even I can admit that the Hemi was a legendary motor. It would whip the shit out of damn near ANYTHING else on the street. The only stock GM motor I know of that could compete with it in 1969 (since that was when this car was built) was the L71 3x2 or the L89 427 Big Block Chevy. Blue Oval and Bowtie Boys had respect for this engine. Just give it the credit that it deserves people.....Nice car man. PERFECT from front to back. ^_^ Just subbed.
Once you tuned a Hemi they Ran really well and basically stomped on anything Detroit delivered. Now, To put a 440 Crank in a 400 and see what kind of "Stock" Magic that makes :P Sleeper stroker.
@jwdkse Frankly, If you Bought a Hemi powered Car you would just be Too Stupid to do Simple Engine Maintenance Such as, Tuning the Carb And Value Lash. Want Maintenance Free? Get an EconoBox And Stop Crying and leave The Hemi to a real man Who knows What a real car is.
you know a 440 will tear a hemi a new ass right? hemi's are nice rare as shit and sound awsome but its not a street motor, it was built for racing and the maintenance on these damn things are like dealing with a woman
Their really isnt anything like a 426 Hemi. They were the kings of the street and racing. And still are in drag racing today, even GM/Ford use them on there drag cars. Mopar built the best drive trains of all time, even the Nascar engine is based off of the Mopar 340 small block. The 426 Hemi today still will conquer nearly everything on the street. And with slight bolt ons will make over 700hp easy on stock block and internals.
put in very good words man i say the same thing to everyone the thing the gm is faster and i laugh in there face man i never knew nascar engines went off the 340
hell man i almost like the car better than the engine, i mean thats one bad asssss hemi but thats one slick 69' charger...and jeese look at that thing shake in the engine bay JUST at idle hahaha that in itself is amazing
Only things in life that a person can look forward to are ,Barbells and
Mopar most solid things there are.Amen

No HEMI was ever offered a warranty because they are piece o shit engines that always break down
jwdkse 2 years ago
