I loved Fujimoto (Ponyo's father) from the start because he reminded me of Schuldig from Weiss Kreuz and then I loved him even more because of his awkward overly fatherly ways. Liam Neeson's dubbed "Respect your father!" was my favorite line of the movie.

Despite her angry Morse Code, the father continues to use Morse Code to tell her and his son how sorry he is and how much he loves them. And so the fisherman continues to work, sending messages of love to his family, making new movies. Oh Hayao, you love you son Goro so much in spite of everything.

Ponyo was such a pleasant surprise for me. When I first saw bits of the movie, I thought it was just some strange anime but when I finally saw it, I loved it. It was so refreshing to watch something so innocent and heartwarming especially when you are used to the media in the U.S. Definitely reminded me of my childhood.

@TheGentledawn I am inclined to agree. For my collection I have both Japanese and English version of EVERY Studio Ghibli movie ever made and trust me, I *know* bad voice acting. For example: In Legend of Earthsea the antagonist (a female witch in every other language) was changed to a male sorceror and the translation was absolutely dreadful. Ponyo stayed true to the original while still being adaptable to the general American audience.
