Another great tune from POKR, Kansas' best album- masterful keyboards and violin on this song, but it almost sounds as if the song ends prematurely. Will rock bands like KANSAS ever surface again and write & play songs like this?
this footage shows what so little available footage does - and that is Steve Walsh's incredible athletic delivery of their material - moves he mastered between 76-80 and after which he only hinted at. it's a small stage but I saw him do this crazy kick dancing across a huge stage on the POKR tour 78 and it was incredible - have not seen any other performer quite match it besides Ian. In fact on that tour he was seen warming up by doing repeated back flips back stage...awesome
truth be known-------kansas left steve walsh, phil, rich , and robbie. when kerry and dave took it upon themselves to be born again and tried to take the entire band with them. that my friend is what wrecked kansas.
If that were the case why did the others besides walsh stay? It was all about the money then as it is now. Walsh though it would be easy to get a high profile gig after Kansas but his difficult reputation followed him. Yes I agree that Livgrens "born again" BS put its toll on the band but Walsh later admitted that he perhaps would of stayed on until the end of their contract with Epic Records (Vinyl Confessions) because of the money he lost leaving, and his problems that followed.
well, i would guess that it was a matter of standing up for what you believe in. and steve did just that, followed by robbie leaving a year later. as for rich and phil, I give those guys all the credit in the world for staying with the band. however I don't feel they agreed with the direction the band was headed in, but stayed because of the money.
and I know walsh was not easy to get along with during that time, but give him some credit for sticking to his guns.
The contract with CBS (as Sony was known as in the 1970s/80s) ended with Drastic Measures. They were originally on Kirshner (before it folded in 1982 and Kansas switched to CBS Associated in 1983). I thought Vinyl Confessions was a great record and turned out to be the band's last Top 20 album in the US before Robbie quit. I feel Kansas went to crap after Robbie Steinhardt quit.
In fact Walsh wanted to go solo as early as Point of know Return. He left the band for a few days during the recording, but decided to return. Thank GOD!
I was 16 when I saw this tour at Kemper Arena in Kansas City. We had Backstage passes too...It was awesome!! This was the Audio Visions tour. I remember who was in my car, and all that, can't say because they were related to members of Kansas. I love this band!!!

You know a band is tight when they sound this good off of a dry sound board recording! Walsh in his prime! No one on the planet could touch him!
