FRom my expierence with this technique, it works well on some people, and not so well on others, depends on their pain tolerance, sometimes they wont tap out till their neck is about to break, so I let it go.
So many jiu-jitsu clubs leave out teaching neck cranks, and tell you not to attempt neck cranks while rolling. they will tell you that this is because you can injure your partner's neck in the process. This does not mean that neck cranks are not legitimate submissions. it just means that your average jiu-jitsu white belt or blue belt does not have enough grappling knowledge to know how much pressure is too much, and when to tap at the proper time. neck cranks are just like any other submission.
@luchador1764 but illegal in bjj comps, unless brown or black i think, but in general yes, just another sub. debends if you are a comp man or not. i do them anyway as no on expects them as no on deos them much anymore.
@poopalover ik right! nobody expects neck cranks because jiu jitsu has deemed them "dangerous" like leg locks. thus watering down jiu jitsu's great no holds barred roots.
@tdr124 you can hurt your opponenet permenantly and yes, you can break someones neck if constent pressure is applied to the back of the neck with this crank.
over your neck over his head whatever...he tapped..it works...get over it..if you couldnt reach your neck but could reach his head to get a tap,you wouldn't do what he did to make him tap?
good response to bananabread. After all, as in all art, martial arts has different variations. The best judo and jiu jitsu players are the ones that don't become so fuckin obsessed with the idea that there is absolutely only one way to do something.
Judo and JJ are directly related and are very similar in many ways esp the ground techniques. Don't be fooled by Olympic Judo where all you see are throws. Judo has brutal arm bars, arm locks and chokes on the ground hence a judoka teaching the Gracies.
no neck cranks are illegal.. like leg locks. however they are included in kata, and depending on the sensei, they will allow for neck cranks and leg locks during randori. i feel u should be at green- blue level before this is allowed. neck cranks is part of judo cause it is related to jujitsu
this is kind of a dirty trick, and most competitions cranks arn't allowed

looks good but I think you would get hip bumped by dedicating both arms that close to the body.

MPA2000 1 year ago
@MPA2000 This technique is more of a reverse crank than a choke. If applied correctly it is very painful and can cause damage to the back of neck.

Nice... I'm gonna do that one in class today. Just gotta make sure I don't get swept!
hexkwondo 3 years ago
you are in a class that neck cranks are legal ?
phrox 3 years ago
Well, I don't do them now seeing as we call each other on that now. The technique worked by the way.
hexkwondo 3 years ago
look up kosen judo you will understand their connection. plus the man that taught the gracies "jujitsu" was infact not a jujitsuka, but a judoka.
