  • i´m not sure whats the name of the actor but the African decendent is an incredible actor...i mean he is really friggin good

  • Hey Dude its Michael you might remember me from WorldsEndProductions a couple of years ago and we have both come very far. Sorry for not keeping in touch I just have been very busy with HIGH SCHOOL. Well anyway keep up the AMAZING work, and I will try to post some of my latest videos. One things though, when she shoots him it shows him drop the pot, then it switches angles and he drops it again. Just thought I would throw that out. But never-mind that AMAZING job. P.S. Keep in touch.

  • Wow you got a hold of some GREAT actors!

  • nice work...

  • I think the judges are looking for the best film made in 24 hours that adheres to the theme. That's it. The elements, other than the theme, never have, in the past years, played a significant or plot-progressing role in most winning films, including 'Cover's Story', which got first place last year to other teams with the elements used more outright, obviously, and sure you could say in a more effective way.

  • The judging of this year in every category was poor and showed the judges lack of knowledge of proper filmmaking, scriptwriting, creativity, or any facet of art really. Of course, this is only my opinion, but I'm sure to all of those except the winners it is widely agreed upon.

  • Now, I'm not sure, but I don't think they just hired some random people or had a family member to do the judging. And don't take this the wrong way but, I think its unfair to bash the judges' knowledge of film, no matter how much you think you know.

  • I won't take it the wrong way, but I also consider my knowledge of film and art, however small, to be accurate and just, and in viewing the decisions and trying to figure out the motives of the judges by staying through all categories, I was completely lost.

  • Not just because the most professional and creative movies didn't get picked AT ALL, but because there seemed to be no guide or scoresheet to which any judge was adhering to for each film, making it completely pointless to compare what would then be the incomparable. (although, of course there was, it's just that gauging the judges was impossible)

  • I have to agree that I'm not quite sure why silencer films got second place and thats obviously something we will never understand. But I don't think you can have it both ways. I mean, the way its kinda coming across to me is that you guys win because you have superior filming techniques, and when you don't, there is a fault in judging(where in this case it would be for The Last minute team).

  • I dunno, i just think its unfair to rule out the possibility that the 1st place team simply made a great comedy that was worthy of winning.

  • When the judging is on a film-for-film basis, that's fine. When it's a comparison of multiple aspects of multiple films, I think it needs to be a deeper judging/thought than that.

    That's just me, though.

  • I think it's obvious that Lake Cinematique made a good movie, nobody's contesting that.

I think it's just that when it's up against other styles of filming, they all need to be judged OBJECTIVELY, rather than solely on a "how important were the elements" basis, and that's why we're all puzzled Silencer won. It was pretty decent, but still...

  • Last Minute Moviemakers are our team's perhaps greatest rivals, so don't take it that I'm supporting some kind of bias, but to try and call something brilliantly presented and created (Cadenza) "a script that thinks its better than itself and tries to do too much" isn't only making you seem completely oblivious to storytelling in general, but makes you look completely amateur.

  • haha, yall left out noah in the credits.

  • whoa, deja vu, it put my second comment twice, sorry.

  • IMO, the best videos are the ones where you didn't even realize/look for the elements, but they were in there, because that shows good writing and/or storytelling.

Just me, though. That's what we did for Cover's Story last year, and we got 1st place. That's what Wong Turn did this year, and they got second.

That's what we did for Cover's Story last year, and we got 1st place. That's what Wong Turn did this year, and they got second.

  • that was awesome...you guys would have made it to the finals..hell you guys probably would have won.

  • thanks! we really, thoroughly enjoyed your guys movie as well.

    "i love him......but i hate him!"

    hilarious!

  • I'll agree that their video looked good cause of the camera and the dark effect, and the acting was pretty good too, but the required elements didn't play an important role in the story as a whole. I saw the flagpole in there for like a second, and I guess the musical instrument was the phone? I dunno, if it were made for something else, then it might of won, but not for the 24 hour.

  • actually you could be right, I read their description and 'Cover Story' was last year's theme. So maybe this was done last year but recreated for this year?

  • okay this was last year's entry, it even says so. So last year they could have won.

  • No, they were just saying that they won last year with their entry of Cover Story. This, Redemption, is for the 2007 video race. I was just pointing out that they probably wouldn't have won because of their poor use of the elements.

  • appartently I shouldn't read things when i am half awake. You are right about the description. And I didn't see the use of the elements used well as you stated.

  • I disagree. What seems to be the creative element that wins, at least to me, is producing something technically proficient and with an idea that creatively harnesses the THEME. The rest of the elements seem to be less important. And, in my opinion, almost all of those videos that have won for the last several years didn't use the elements (the theme aside) in a plot-progressing way, but rather, a subtle way- more effective and less 'thrown-in' feeling.

  • I see what your saying, but regardless of how long the audience sees them, the elements need to play some type of meaningful role in the story. The judges only see the video once, and if they had to think hard about where a certain team used a particular element, like the flagpole or the musical instrument in this case, then they would most likely not choose it to win.

  • And as far as being "technically proficient" goes, I cant see that it would matter that much(provided the editing isn't crap).

  • I only say this because The Last Minute Movie Makers in the pixelvision division had a very impressive looking little video, with some great effects...but only got third place. Where as Lake Cinematique relied on a well written, and creative script that integrated all four elements nicely. This in contrast to flashy video effects and a script that thinks its better than itself and tries to do too much.

  • I'm actually glad you brought this up, I've been meaning to say something. The Last Minute Movie Makers were robbed, completely and utterly robbed. I don't say this as opinion, I state this as fact.

  • So your saying the The winning team is undeserving?

  • Not so much that Lake Cinematique was UNdeserving as it was Last Minute Moviemakers was CLEARLY the MOST deserving to get first.

  • They were leagues, leagues above the competition in EVERY aspect of the filmmaking process, and it's truly pathetic to call careful attention to lighting, cinematography, editing, and sound design "flashy video effects". To anyone who knows movies, their video was remarkably better produced and followed better conventions of effective storytelling.

  • sorry if i was unclear, but i wasn't comparing the winners to last minute movie makers. I wasn't trying to say that the last minute team were trying to do too much, just that the 1st place team weren't trying to make it more than it was. But thats probably because it was a comedy and the story didn't call for it. Theres no doubt, you and last minute are some of the few people iv ever seen pull off a dramatic action video. And last minute should have at least gotten second.

  • But the whole point, at least I think, to creatively using the elements, and I'll say it again, is to display them in the most natural way to where they are either unrecognizable/obvious or unpredictable.

  • For instance, it was evident in the 20 or so films with a street musician guitar player that the line of dialogue was going to be incorporated in some sort of speech with this musician. Sure, that's using the elements in a more progessing or important way, but it is by no means better and certainly not more creative. This is what Lake Cinematique and WRONG had.

  • Well if you are going to bring that up, then i have to point out that almost every video i saw had the word "owe" in it right before their line of dialog...including yours. I just watched lake Cinematiques video, and not only did they not have this, but they did not have a wandering street musician(as many other did like you said). And it did not seem to me that they just forced in their other elements.

  • Where did you view theirs, on youtube? Or are you on their team/friend?

  • three lefts make a right... type it in. I went to the 24 hour website, and got the name of their movie

  • What team were you with? How did you know about the other entries?

  • I'm not on a team, i just went to the festival.

  • supporting someone, or how did you know about it?

  • I went to the festival last year because it was extra credit for a technology class where we made videos(i don't know how my teacher knew about it, but it didn't surprise me). I really enjoyed it and thought it was amazing how most of the lower age groups surpassed the upper levels, in terms of movie making. so i came back this year

  • and when I said flashy video effects, I wasn't trying to say that they were a bad thing, you misunderstand me..it was a poor choice of words. What I meant was like the style that you and last minute use, which is really quite good. It reminds me of "Man on Fire" or like 24. The only reason I said flashy video effects is because what I remember of their movie, was the flashbacks and the quick camera movements like in the two examples i just said.

  • Well, perhaps it came out the wrong way, then. You've obviously got some liking for each, so I don't want to bash you or anything, but still.

The 1st and second place movies: Again, both are good in their own regard, but technically, professionally, and creatively incomparable to LMMM. (And, again, these are my sworn enemies I'm talking about)

  • People like my group and Greg Cotten (of Last Minute) take a considerable amount of time to not only acquire the skills to tell a story- as most every team in the video race has- but take it one step further by adding professional production value.

  • equalrights90, I want to assure you I'm not making these assertions to assume any kind of superiority; I just found the judgings in general at this year's video race laughable, and I'm hence quite frustrated.

  • Brilliantly shot, although the audio levels, sound quality, and sound effects were near pitiful. Plus, there are some consistency issues near the end when the addict is shot. You here the pot hit the ground (with a really cheap sound effect), and then you see him carrying it again in the next shot...

Overall, I loved the video, but the audio killed it for me, same thing with Cover's Story...

  • the "really cheap sound effect" on the pot falling is the pot ACTUALLY falling, lol. it was the actual audio from that shot.

thanks for the comments on the visuals, though, i'm proud of them. andrew had a tough time finding any kind sound effects, and youtube completely butchers sound design when we've already compressed the file.

  • alls i can say is brilliant

  • Oh my Gosh, that was really amazing. Love x3

  • thanks! it's weird, this came out really really dark when i put it on youtube. well, whatever, glad you liked it!

  • The dark video only added to the tone. I think it's wonderful. =]
