Why does nobody actually use stealth in their Thieves Guild videos? I sniped all the skeevers away with a bow, hiding each time to avoid direct combat, and snuck up on Hamelyn and one shotted him with a dagger sneak attack. This was at level 20.

For sneaky archers: As you enter his room, sneak up to the rocks to the left. Hit him with a arrow to the back. Hide from his spells behind the rocks. I used potions to increase archery, invisibility and enchant my bow to drain his magicka. Thumbs up if this worked for you!

I had to beat him by hiding behind a bale of hay and shooting arrow at him and then ducking behind the bale.

I used the potion of invisibility and dodged all his skeevers, and even then, he took four sneak attacks before he died by a mace lol. Expert difficulty.

I went beast mode all over his fuckin ass . Otherwise yea he is quite a bitch to kill ... quite unexpected too , after fighting skeevers and frostbite spiders all of a sudden there is a powerful mage at the end of the cave lol

Just beat him as a level 10 Nord just keep dodging spells when he runs out of magic use the shout to knock him flying then used a 2 hander to smash him to death on the floor. (no potions or magic used).

This guy is ridiculous. i was lvl 30 when facing him with full enchanted glass armour and all he has is a stamina ring n topless!!! and he kills in 4 shots!!!! fireball and ice spikes are OP!!!

I managed to beat him at level 14 with quite a few level ups stored. Snuck up on him wearing shrouded cowl (20% bow damage) and took a potion of true shot (20% bow damage) and 2x with sneak. Used fine imperial bow, 18 damage and hit him 2 times, with archery at like 25. He took a load of damage then i just ran at him with an orcish sword. He used fast healing a couple of times but then I killed him ;D Your tactic was good as well, but i kept getting impatient. I also recommend flame atronach spe

he will actually run up past that little hill/alleyway.. He chased me all the way back to the entrance. I finally had to just leave, come back in, sneak up on him and fuck him up with a shout. Encountered at lvl 23

I hated this guy so much, I'm on my second play though now and decided to go the thief route, I had really bad combat skills but amazing sneak and pickpocket. I really struggled. What i ended up doing is running away and he goes back to his Alchemy thing. I then snuck up behind him, stole his armor and did a back stab.

Right before I turned that corner I used a Potion of invisibility (Im playing an assassin) I snuck by all the rays snuck up behind him while he was crafting a potion and slit his throat.

I have mid difficulty on. I have a ton of stamina cause I'm playing a thief.

So I have 200health maybe, and he basically one shots me, real terror this guy.

Doesn't help that I havent trained much combat skills. Steal not kill is my moto.

Took me ages to deal with this guy. I stealth-shot him in the back for 3x damage, sneaked around the pillar as he searched for me, and waited for him to ignore the arrows embedded in his spine and say "Hm. Must be my imagination". Skyrim is full of f*cking dumbasses.

Didn't work though. His health refills to a certain point, so I eventually just used the 15x sneak-stab ability to one-hit him once I'd gotten his health down low. He was also a shock-caster for me, so I couldn't dodge.

I just sneaked around him. I'm primarily a caster so I had to use my "throw voice" shout to get him out of the way so I could make it through without him detecting me.

I died twice trying to kill him. But then I summoned a flame atronach and he got stuck behind that pillar. Then I used the slow time shout and just stabbed him a few times in the back. Didn't get hit once was weird
