I love that your onboard with Ratty's and giving them the world to explore. It's lovely that you take the time and think of them so much. We treated ours the same, showers in summer with me and exploring all the cupboards in the house. They ate really healthy and lots of our foods off of our plate. Lots of couch and Tele time cuddles. Such short lives, bring so much pleasure.

I honestly don't have a favourite, they are different enough for me to say that i love both for their individual traits. Boys are larger, much slower and therefore more clumsy and less agile. But what they lack in ability they make up for by being cute and loving cuddles, they'll actively seek out cuddles. Girls are small and bags of energy, pretty much able to do anything they want to do lol. However much fun they are to watch and play with though they aren't cuddle seekers.

You CAN get rats singularly, but you'd have spend more time with them. Since they don't have a rat companion, you'd have to take extra care to play with them more every day. The gender doesn't matter; both need a friend. If you can't get one, you have to be the friend instead. It takes more time out of your schedule and if you can't do that, I'd suggest you wait until you're allowed to get two.

I have a single rat :) But, it is advisable to get at least 2. Mine is with me all the time. Free to do whatever he wants. The only time he's in cage is when my ferrets wake up - when it's ferret time :D But my ferrets are usually awake about 4 hours a day. So, there's still 20 hours left for the rat <3

I have 3 degus, so he plays with them a lot.

But these are all exceptions. Some rats don't get along with degus, or vice versa.

Best to just experiment really. Try brocolli, grape, banana (yellow only, not green or brown). Or just the bagged treats from pet stores, all broken into small bits so that you can train without over treating :). Just need to find what your rattie loves most :)

Average i would say is about:

Girls: 2-3 years

Boys: 2.5-3.5 years

They have heart-breakingly short lives. 5 years is an impressive age for a rat to reach, but has been done. Realistically though you're looking in the ranges above.

My Rat Nero was so afraid of water. He was playing next to the little pool his brother liked to play in, and I dropped a piece of pasta that I was eating in the water by accident, and he just plopped right in and snagged it. After that he loved to play in the water.

Thank you :). Rats love a variety of things, brocoli, grapes and banana are all clear favourites but for training i tend to use bagged treats from the pet stores, but broken up in small pieces to allow longer training without over treating. I tend to go for the chocolate drops, yogurt drops, or biscuit hoops (broken up) for mine but all rats vary slightly so worth trying several different types with your rats to see which they prefer :)

Rats are so much more intelligent than hamsters, so realistically i wouldn't think so. But I know hamsters "can" learn tricks so you may be able to teach him/her some things :). From memory hamsters shouldn't get wet so research what you're doing before you try anything with water.

how do u teach your rat to fetch items?

Long process from what i can tell. My best tips are find something that your rat likes and plays with a lot and use that. Start by treating the rat for playing with it, then starting throwing the object a short distance away and treat the rat for chasing it and playing with it. If your rat runs off with it all the better, sit where he normally runs to and if he runs to you with it, treat!! From there its practice and patience. This is really early days still with Whiskey.

Womble was being stupid about water last night lol, so not yet ... he takes the ball out of a mug, that's his thing lol. Whiskey's hesitation will go with practice and it will all be a lot smoother :) these were the first couple of attempts hehe :D
