I just finished day 2 of the 30 day shred and so far so good, but I feel like 20 mins might not be enough. Did you add your own cardio to the programme? Im thinking of adding some yoga.
@semt9 i didn't feel that i needed to add anything extra to the program. by the time i was finished with each workout i was drenched in sweat, breathing hard and my heat practically beating out my chest lol
@semt9 If level 1 is too easy (at Natalie's level and heavier weights), just go on to level 2 and see how how you feel. That said, are you new to working out? If so, a common mistake is to try to do too much at once because you're so motivated now. I found that the Shred alone with a healthy diet was all I needed to see big changes in only ~10 days! Maybe give it 2 weeks before you add anything in just to see how it is? I'm in my third week now and I love it!!
@5w33ti3 I'm not new to working out so it hasn't been as terrible as i imagined lol! But i definitely still have weight to lose so there are parts of the workout that really make me feel the burn XD Im about to do day 6 and i feel like i get more sore with each passing day, which I didn't expect. You're right though, don't want to overwork and injure myself. I'm just so eager to get results haha. Thanks!
@semt9 btw, I had been doing 30 day shred for about 3.5 weeks, but then I just went on vacation last week and couldn't do the DVD. So instead, I downloaded NTC (Nike training club) onto my ipad: it's FREE and FANTASTIC! One type of workout on NTC is a 15-minute "Get Focused" (you can focus on different body parts or do cardio). So, if you have an iphone/ipad, I def recommend! (has greater longer workouts too, which I've been doing). Not sure if on android phones yet.
@5w33ti3 I meant, has "great longer workouts too." The nice thing about the 15 minute ones is that you can add it to 30-day shred. The longer videos come in 30 min and 45 min lengths. When I thought more about your comments on wanting to workout out longer, I realized that my concern with 30-day shred is that I'm acclimating myself to ~20 min workouts and I'm not in shape to go longer (though I think it's a good workout!). So I'm doing the longer NTC ones a lot now too to extend my endurance.
@5w33ti3 Ahh unfortunately i don't have an ipad or iphone, but i'll keep that in mind in case i do one day haha! Tomorrow will be day 22 for me so time has def flown and im keeping with it! Im hoping to find some kind of c210k to do next. Good luck with your program! :-)
@semt9 I'm a fitness nut b/c nothing ever works for me :( I def felt like Jillian's workouts were good but not enough. I used to do 45 mins of jogging or 25 mins of Nordictrack before doing the 30 day shred video. Then after the video I'd also do about 30 mins of ab exercises. I'd do this 3 times a week, and then another 3 times a week I'd workout twice a day (once in the morning, and once in the evening), and then I also figure skate 3 days a week too.
@italianjen29 Wow, you are super active! I've definitely gotten in the swing of things (granted the last 2 weeks haven't been my most active ever lol), I now run three times a week and am training for a 10k :) I crosstrain on the other days and do HIIT, yoga and some pilates here and there. I try to do something everyday though i often rest sundays, and failing that I get my runs in. My first assumption is that you are lean since you're so active. Is your goal weight loss or to keep in shape?
@semt9 Yeah right! Lean? lol, I don't think so! Right now I'm actually at the highest I've been in the last 7 years b/c I've had a really bad year. I went back to school and hated it, so I eat all the time, and between that and working part-time I was on the go 7 days a week, so I never had any time to myself. Last month I got hit by a car too, so I've been out of commission for month. I'm actually 175 right now, and normally, when I can workout like usual, I maintain my weight at 160 :(
@semt9 But you sound pretty active as well. Actually I'm convinced you do more than I normally do! I have no idea what HIIT is, and I have no patience for yoga... although I really should do it b/c of my skating. What kind of cross-training do you do? AT this point, I guess since it takes so much energy just for me to be able to maintain my weight at 160, my goal weight (140-145) Doesn't really seem attainable, so I'm just trying to keep in shape.
@italianjen29 HIIT (high intensity interval training) is basically a method of circuit training that basically gets your heart rate up with a specific amount of time to perform each exercise and a rest in between. If im being honest the yoga is the main crosstraining, and im getting more in the groove of pilates. I wish i could do more but i don't have a gym membership lol. So in between the runs i do whatever i can do at home.
@italianjen29 Knowing my fat percentage is one of the best things I could have done in the start because I know what's feasible now as well. I know what it's like to be unhappy and have that affect your eating and weight. That was me in the later years of high school...after freshman year of college i lost some weight because it had gotten really bad and then stagnated. Now I am pushing myself again and am almost 20lbs down :) Keep going and good luck! One day at a time :)
a variety of vids are a great idea. the way i see it, just like tv, you tube is for entertainment purposes but depending on the topic peeps can still learn from it. regardless of what you choose to post, thanks for taking the time to make vids :)
I would love to see more videos other than hair. Especially the sewing videos. I'm getting into sewing myself and I'd love to see videos like that from you.
Despite the drop in ratings for your 30 day shred, there are still those who are interested. And I would love to see other parts of your life, prove her wrong by bring in a new crowd to your channel
Are you still exercising now that you have finished the 30 Day Shred? BTW today will be Day 9 for me. I am keeping a journal about the experience. Nervous about moving to Level 2, though. :)
please, please keep making "other" videos! I just found you today and subscribed right away! I am a certified pilates instructor (with natural hair) but I am home-bound recovering from pelvic surgery. I need exercise motivation because I am off work outs for a month and will NEED to get moving after this bed-rest period. You are inspirational, motivational and your HAIR is the business! I am now a dedicated subbie and am sure there are others out there who are yet to find you!! thanks!
I usually do the video bare feet. It is more comfortable, even though I know its kinda bad. But I don't really have soreness after. I am on day 8 and I am 15 years old.
i feel you on priorities.....I started the Crunch Gym series and do it on Netflix on the wii and everytime I mention it or bikram yoga to my fellow natural divas, they shrug me off....continue to change it up :) we are not stereotypes....stay encouraged!
I say go for it! I did watch majority of your JM videos but my life got hectic so I was absent from the tube a while. With that said I'll still check them out. I love watching the fitness video but that's something I'm totally interested in. Hopefully will follow suit and jump on the fitness band wagon too.
But you really shouldn't translate that to mean a lack of interest in fitness I doubt anyone's channel would have gotten a lot of views with the format you used. Contests on your progress.
Yes please do videos on other subjects. Speaking of the low view counts, watching someone talk about their workotmroutine just wasn't very interesting sorry, : ( But you really shouldn't
Congratulations, you did such a good job with the JM Shred! The book bags are too cute, and looking forward to seeing the new topics you will talk about!
you go girl!! I am out of shape too sweetie :) All that extra circulation is going to help your hair anyway -- congrats! In addition to the fish oil, MSM, chondroitin/glucosamine... fresh papaya and pineapple will reduce more acute inflammation and speed up healing. Dont worry about subbies right now... just do you - the interest is there, some people are not ready for change just yet..... Traycee (kiss) and kimmaytube, are avid exercisers - their hair seems to reap the denefits too !
Congrats on reaching your goals!! You look great. I think I already have a pretty good idea of what that person said to you at that natural hair show. . .lol People talk mess about using hair products that contain mineral oil, petrolateum, and all the other 'no no' ingredients. Yet those same people will eat fried food, fast food, and anything else unhealthy they can get their hands on! So yes, the priorities are ALL OVER the place!! Truly sad!!
@LongHairDontCareLLC, LOL! I just started running a couple of years ago. It really doesn't take much. If you can do Jillian Michaels, you can run :) Have you tried DC'ing while working out? Oh my gosh, I think it is better than sitting under a dryer!
I just about fell off my couch when you mentioned sewing as a topic! I've wanted to learn for sooooo long and finally put some action to my talk and signed up for a class! Can't wait to see more of your projects! Btw...I initially subscribed to watch hair stuff but viewed the fitness vids too....I just enjoy your channel :)
@Aja1222 sewing is fun...i gotta LOT to learn about it, though! i took sewing 101 at joann fabrics a few months ago but never really did anything with it until i made the girls' bags...i'd really like to take a whole course on sewing as i'm very interested in garment construction...
thanks so much for your support, sis! i'm glad i'm not the only one interested in the age old craft of sewing LOL
@LongHairDontCareLLC the fish oil comes in capsules. the glucosamine/chondroitin/msm is best in liquid form. I've done both pills and liquid. Both gave awesome results, but the liquid gave quicker and LONGER LASTING results. Ever since I've used the liquid which was maybe a year ago, I haven't had to use anything like it since. I have absolutely no problem with my knees at all now. Expect to be on the glucosamine for a while like 2 weeks to a month before feeling no pain at all. Vit. C chews.
Congrats!! Your face looks slimmer and your arms are toned. I checked out the DVD from the library. You must have gained some muscle becuase you appear slimmer overall. You're right about taking at least one day off. I like 5 Factor Fitness, which is 25 minutes - cardio warmup, weights, abs, and cardio.
i started working out back in april and i noticed a spike in my hair growth, and i know that you have only been working out for 30 days but, keep an eye on your hair growth. And if you are referring to naturals dont work out because they dont want to sweat out their hair, they are crazy for just that reason. EXERCISE BOOSTS HAIR GROWTH!!!!
I would love to see more. You got me doing more than I already was in terms of exercising. I have been doing the dvd but not everyday because I am also running distance. I think Black women should be just as excited about exercising as they are hair. How we take care of our bodies affects our hair anyway. I run in different races, ie 5K, 10K, 10 milers, hal marathon and we are so under represented. However, we crowd in the salon and beauty supply :(
However, it is because of YouTubers like you that I have learned so much about not only just hair, but also fitness and other hobbies I may not have picked up before. Thanks for the inspiration and I look forward to the additional content areas.
I'm so glad I watched this. I started in Mid-April with a commitment to make better health & fitness channels and as of this morning I've lost 45 pounds. I learned a lot about working out the right way & the wrong way and am currently suffering the same problems with my knees & ankles you did. I've taken the last week off because my knees are STILL creaking. I didn't even have that problem when I was heavier so I was really frustrated at that in the beginning of this week. ...
Thanks for the update! I have started the 30 Day Shred and just completed Day 6 I can finally do the push-ups, but I do modify some of them. It is hard, and I am impressed that you did 26 days. I take one day at a time, though--as this is a long journey!
Life is not all about hair! Mix it up! I loved following you on your 30 day journey! I started working out more right when you started. It was good motivation!
Regardless of the views, you never know who or when you're inspiring. For the first time in my adult life, I've starting running daily and you were part of my support system. Be patient with your subscribers, viewers may know that they NEED to take an interest in their health but feel defeated, so we tend to just ignore anything related to a healthier lifestyle. But, you never know when you might touch someone when they finally have that AHA moment.
I enjoyed your workout videos because i did not even know there was a way I could workout for just 20 minutes and sweat like that. You put me on to the 30 day shred and I appreciate u for that. Also I just did the big chop Friday and I know that working out has a lot to do with hair growth, even though I am doing it for health reasons as well, but hair and health goes hand and hand. Anyways I wish u well with your new endeavors, the bag is cute. Keep it up, I will watch ur videos :-)
@ClosetBeauty01 YAY!!! i'm SO happy for you! AND CONGRATS ON YOUR [mini] BIG CHOP!! that is AWESOME! yes, SOOO many things are affected by working out, not just the obvious things like toning & weight loss, but clearer skin, more energy, HAIR GROWTH, stamina, increased endorphins...
thanks for your support, it really means a lot! my girls love their bags LOL my oldest uses it as her school bag - i told her don't look this way when you're walking home & your books fall out the bottom LOL
@ClosetBeauty01 WAIT! you did THE big CHOP! not a MINI big chop! [reading is fundamental!] ABSOLUTELY congrats and WELCOME to the world of NATURAL HAIR!!!
@RetroVintageChic86 AND like i stated in one of my documenting videos, i started off the program GAINING weight, not losing...just try it. i'm just ONE testimony out of thousands online. i'm happy with my results and i was able to achieve every goal i set for myself going in. JUST DO IT :)
@RetroVintageChic86 LMBO! lemme put it like this...if i lost the 20 pounds this video suggest, i would be a walking SKELETON - not a good look! plus muscle weighs more than fat & i didn't have a lot of fat to begin with...remember, my goal was not weight loss, it was toning & gettin' off my butt!
don't pass it up based on my lack of weight loss, when, in reality i didn't have much weight to lose. trust, it's a good program for weight loss if you have it to lose. google 30 day shred results :)
part 2 gave you that background so you dont make assumptions on why "naturals" didnt watch your workout vids as much as you would like. your hair vids are detailled and very informative and why in my opinion get more views
@bellanatural01 the comment that i referred to had nothing to do with why or why not naturals work out. i've made no assumptions or drawn conclusions based on my video blog as to whether naturals do or don't workout.
the comment was/is very offensive [which again had nothing to do with working out] but it made more sense to me once i uploaded my fitness journey..i guess if i shared the comment what i'm saying would make more sense :)
thanks so much for watching & for your support, sis! *hug*
@LongHairDontCareLLC sorry for making the assumption it did, i'm a little sensitive because i've heard some youtubers say that before, that "naturals" only care about their hair and not their bodies, that they watch product ingredients in shampoos but pay no attention when it comes to what they eat. i've even had black guys complimenting me when i used to go to the gym after work instead of before for being in the gym because according to them black women dont work out. and that's they case
i'm going to be honest i didnt watch your work out vids because normally i only watch work out vids like any other vids if the person is showing detailled how to's, meal recipes etc...i watch your vids and the other people hair vids for tips and thats why i enjoy your vids. i work out at 6 am 5 days a week for an hour i used to be vegan but i've recently transitioned to becoming a pescatarian because i was really missing sea food and made that adjustment for myself. gave you that background
@bellanatural01 ABSOLUTELY! you made very good points in your comment. i knew going into it that hair fanatics, in general, weren't going to watch the fitness vids, my point really had very little to do w/ the views. like you, i only watch vids that i'm INTERESTED in and that I feel I will GET something from [regardless of who the vlogger is].
@bellanatural01 Just curious. . .how many other black women do you see at the gym? I've been working out since I was 19 and I've never seen more than a handful of us at the gym in all those years
@MsChanteJ72 just because their aren't that many, shouldnt mean i should be lump in with those who dont. some people walk around saying that black people are ghetto, uneducated and all on wealthfare. last time i checked my family members & friends are neither. Stereotypes will only go as far as we allow them to. ps: if you're solo at the gym, next time grab your friends, family or co-workers and change the stereotype that black women dont work out. Make a change dont just accept it as a reality
@bellanatural01 I wasn't lumping you in, just asking a question. I never generalize because there are exceptions to every rule. I've lived in just about every major metropolitan area in the US and from what I've observed over the years, black women (relaxed or natural) are the minority in gyms. . I'm always trying to motivate and encourage my friends, family, co-workers to eat better and excercise. Unfortunately a lot of them aren't willing to make that lifestyle change.
I just finished day 2 of the 30 day shred and so far so good, but I feel like 20 mins might not be enough. Did you add your own cardio to the programme? Im thinking of adding some yoga.

LongHairDontCareLLC 7 months ago
@RetroVintageChic86 LMBO! lemme put it like this...if i lost the 20 pounds this video suggest, i would be a walking SKELETON - not a good look! plus muscle weighs more than fat & i didn't have a lot of fat to begin with...remember, my goal was not weight loss, it was toning & gettin' off my butt!
don't pass it up based on my lack of weight loss, when, in reality i didn't have much weight to lose. trust, it's a good program for weight loss if you have it to lose. google 30 day shred results :)

part 2 gave you that background so you dont make assumptions on why "naturals" didnt watch your workout vids as much as you would like. your hair vids are detailled and very informative and why in my opinion get more views
bellanatural01 7 months ago
@bellanatural01 the comment that i referred to had nothing to do with why or why not naturals work out. i've made no assumptions or drawn conclusions based on my video blog as to whether naturals do or don't workout.
the comment was/is very offensive [which again had nothing to do with working out] but it made more sense to me once i uploaded my fitness journey..i guess if i shared the comment what i'm saying would make more sense :)
thanks so much for watching & for your support, sis! *hug*
LongHairDontCareLLC 7 months ago
@LongHairDontCareLLC sorry for making the assumption it did, i'm a little sensitive because i've heard some youtubers say that before, that "naturals" only care about their hair and not their bodies, that they watch product ingredients in shampoos but pay no attention when it comes to what they eat. i've even had black guys complimenting me when i used to go to the gym after work instead of before for being in the gym because according to them black women dont work out. and that's they case
bellanatural01 7 months ago
part 2 the case for some but not all so i was get a bit sensitive when i feel like i'm being grouped in with something negative. Again i apologize
bellanatural01 7 months ago
@bellanatural01 girl, no biggie! i understood where you were coming from!
LongHairDontCareLLC 7 months ago
i'm going to be honest i didnt watch your work out vids because normally i only watch work out vids like any other vids if the person is showing detailled how to's, meal recipes etc...i watch your vids and the other people hair vids for tips and thats why i enjoy your vids. i work out at 6 am 5 days a week for an hour i used to be vegan but i've recently transitioned to becoming a pescatarian because i was really missing sea food and made that adjustment for myself. gave you that background
bellanatural01 7 months ago
@bellanatural01 ABSOLUTELY! you made very good points in your comment. i knew going into it that hair fanatics, in general, weren't going to watch the fitness vids, my point really had very little to do w/ the views. like you, i only watch vids that i'm INTERESTED in and that I feel I will GET something from [regardless of who the vlogger is].
LongHairDontCareLLC 7 months ago
@bellanatural01 Just curious. . .how many other black women do you see at the gym? I've been working out since I was 19 and I've never seen more than a handful of us at the gym in all those years
MsChanteJ72 7 months ago
@MsChanteJ72 just because their aren't that many, shouldnt mean i should be lump in with those who dont. some people walk around saying that black people are ghetto, uneducated and all on wealthfare. last time i checked my family members & friends are neither. Stereotypes will only go as far as we allow them to. ps: if you're solo at the gym, next time grab your friends, family or co-workers and change the stereotype that black women dont work out. Make a change dont just accept it as a reality
bellanatural01 7 months ago
@bellanatural01 I wasn't lumping you in, just asking a question. I never generalize because there are exceptions to every rule. I've lived in just about every major metropolitan area in the US and from what I've observed over the years, black women (relaxed or natural) are the minority in gyms. . I'm always trying to motivate and encourage my friends, family, co-workers to eat better and excercise. Unfortunately a lot of them aren't willing to make that lifestyle change.
