while i agree our hc system blows, one must look further into statistics..many countries count infant mortality different..in some other countries abortions, unhealthy babies lost at birth are not even counted. And as far as Human life expectancy...alot of it also deals with american life styles...we are the fattest unhealthiest country of any and have the poorest diets.
US- average 25 year old thinks it's okay to spend $120 per month on unlimited text & minutes but UNETHICAL to pay $60 per month on a major medical health plan.
Yeah... go to Canada...um, wait, they come HERE for major medical issues.
This video assumes that there are only two options: US healthcare as it currently exists OR some form of socialized healthcare/health insurance. But the third option is to move towards a free market in healthcare. The current so-called "system" is functionally a State-sponsored welter of special interests. Giving more power to the State just perpetuates this structure. Just believe in freedom, and reject all calls for aggression, no matter how good the claimed intentions.
The freemarket does some things quite well. But because it is profit oriented, I would argue healthcare is not one of them (and every first world country except America agrees). The situation is worsened where special interests have Washington in their pockets (look at the military complex for the worst example of this!) This is a fundamental flaw in American politics in general - the free market gets far too much of an easy ride.
First of all, what is a free market? A free market, under my definition (don't want to get into semantic games), exists whenever individuals engage in acts of VOLUNTARY exchange, in respect of the natural rights of life, liberty, and (legitimately obtained) property. Any voluntary act of property exchange (trade) is free market. Any non-voluntary/coerced/aggressive/violent act is antithetical to the free market. Aggression is always evil. Agreed?
Yes, but taxation in the interests of health care could hardly be called agressive... unless you are playing semantic games. Taxes are necessary, but the democratic system is there so that the balance can be redressed of necessary. For example, I wouldn't be happy with the amount of tax you guys pay to support aggression (always evil remember?) in the middle east (and support a bloated military who are basically parasitical on the patriotism of the USA. I would vote accordingly.
Bottom line - the figures are in favour of a form of universal heathcare coverage. Not like the NHS, but a form which works for the US based on the best models such as France or Japan. The only objection you can have is a sort of idealogical one, but I would argue that outcomes are more important than holding to ideologies, and you need to look at what system provides the best OUTCOME for society.
And that's before you even consider ideas like 'fairness' and 'compassion' which I think are even more fundamental human values than individual freedom. We are individuals, but we are also part of a society and we all have responsibility for each other - not to 'walk by on the other side'.
Last of all: Healthcare reform was one of Barack Obamas keystone policies as a presidential candidate. He has been elected by a clear majority. Therefore, health reform is not being 'foisted' on an unwilling American public! Rather, there is a shrinking minority with disproportionately loud, and increasingly agressive voices.
However, in a D E M O C R A C Y, the will of the majority is the key issue (or should be!)
cont: The US medical industry is a mess because of State-based aggression, not too much freedom. The medical mercantilists paint it as a choice between Eurostatism and good old American statism. Not so. What about MORE freedom?
Society is the voluntary interactions of free people. Individual freedom is pro-society, while violence is parasitic and antisocial.
Will of the majority: If all 6 billion people on Earth decide to murder me, I'd still oppose it. Forget democracy. Believe in freedom.
Taxation is always aggressive. If you don't understand that, you can't tell the difference between violence and voluntary interaction. "You guys"? Don't stick me in a partisan cubbyhole: I'm a market anarchist; I hate war.
Non-aggression is indeed a moral belief (ideological, as you call it), and I'd support it even if it were disastrously inefficient. Fortunately, though, that's only a philosophical question because aggression is not only evil, but totally inefficient. It's parasitism.
as someone who was once $30,000 in debt for medical bill (i had insurace too) i STILL dont think we can do this. aybe if we had other crap together. this will KILL us and make people vene more dependant on the gov.
Germany has had universal healthcare since 1883, and they're not dead. It was even untouched during the Nazi period. The only thing universal healthcare will kill is the profit of these asshole executives and insurance people, and the commission of these incompetent American doctors. USA is the only first world country that refuses it's people the right to healthcare.
i meant kill us financially. was Germany24 trillion in debt in 1883? How many people are there in Germany? In the US? Different scenerios. I agree SOMETHING needs to be done. but we CANT afford it RIGHT NOW. We already pay over 1/3 in taxes WITHOUT IT. And those in need CAN get state medical care already. a lot of poeple COULD have unsurance, but they are young, and choose not to pay for it. its the INSURANCE companies that are to blame, They are middle men that are not needed.
Who is "us"? If you mean the average American, privatized healthcare continues to kill people financially. China has over a billion people and can still provide each one with free health care. If it was as easy as you say to get state medical care, wouldn't more people get it? Yes, a lot of people could have insurance. But they have to be able to afford it first. The executives and doctors would hardly make the desired profit without insurance companies.
also...we already trusted them with our Social Security and they've squandered that. If you have the flu or break a leg, universal healthcare is fine, but what if you have something that reguires tests and is long term? you need outside coverage anyway!
Long term? Then that would be something only Donald Trump could afford under the current health care. The only reason universal health care doesn't exist in America is so the system could leech off of people's funds through something they need.
whats medicare and medicaid and state aid all about then? i'm not saying its not screwed up, but other countries arent already paying over half their money in taxes (add up fed/state/city/property/gas/etc). I just dont think this should be rushed. I was in debt and in and out of court for med bills and i have a long term illness, i KNOW what its like. But this government is already not doing what it says it will do. why let them fix the problem they helped create?
Whether you pay thru insurance of taxation, or even directly to the doctors, you still have to pay! And EU countries generally don't pay signficantly more or less taxes than the US.
But Barack O doesn't even seem to be proposing 'universal healthcare' as such, just an overhaul of the current set up that brings health costs (for individuals, companies, and the country) DOWN just as the previous/current system drove them UP.
well if you read the bill, then you did more than the people who will vote on it. and now they wanna rush things? i'm sorry but healtcare has been horrible for years and taken years to get this way (and there are so many factors) that i fear there cant be THAT quick a fix. something stinks just liked the rushed bailout and stimulus.
You're right! But I guess the current system is a huge burden which the country is struggling to afford, so there is a certain pressure to deal with it. But it would be tragic if proper meaningful reform was fudged because of lobbying from the private heathcare sector or so-called idealogical opposition (all they actually care about is protecting big business) from the republicans.
they'll fuck us with it somehow. i would be ALL for this if i thought our gov would do it RIGHT, but given their track record, i wouldnt trust them to pick out my bandaid
You have to qualify, unemployed single parent 5 kids at the most they'll pay half. I see what your saying, and to any rational person the American system is not one anyone with a brain should envy. I too had a medical bill from an assault that I endured, and dealt with harassing phone calls from these pricks. If the government can afford to flush endless money into two failed wars, then it can provide healthcare for its people.
we obviously CANT afford these 2 wars (dont get me started on that subject). THEY estimate we would be 24 TRILLION in debt. And thats a LOW number! IF the government could run healthcare i would be all FOR IT. But I DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH MY HEALTH. They havent done things in MY best interest so far, why would they change now? Its Facism to have everything (banks car companies health) owned by the state. But people are begging for it, so whatever. CODEX ALIMENTARIUS shows where there heart is
The government doesn't want to run healthcare because then they can't profit from you being sick or injured. It's sick. I don't think having to pay $300,000 for a lifesaving surgery would be in anyone's best interest, especially when most people in the world get it free. Fascists as genocidal as they were even weren't low enough to milk their people for all they're worth through healthcare. Healthcare is a human right, except in America.
/yawn by your name I won't take anything about your posts seriously. Health care is a business anyway you look at it. Doctors, nurses and insurance companies all work those years in school to make good money when they get out. Who the fuck will go to school for years upon years to make 50k? Besides under a socialist system I could slack off and get paid the same anyways...no need to work hard under a socialist system everyone is equal...no competition=no productivity...lmao
I don't expect you to since you were raised to think the American way is the only way. Health care is only business in America. Throughout the world people become doctors and nurses to help people, in America it's just a career. I've had friends and family undergo unnecessary surgeries and wrong perscriptions from American doctors, who care only about money not their patients' well being.
The case I mentioned before, Washington state teen Jessica Terry self-diagnosed her illness as Crohn's disease after years of abdominal pain. Her idiotic doctors with all their years of med school and training; in an 8 year period could not diagnose Jessica's illness no matter how hard they tried. Pathetic! I'd feel safer under the care of Dr. Mengele than an American doctor, and I'm American.
took 11 years and me almost dying before they realized what I had (its not a rare thing either). and for over 10 years now i've been giving myself shots and taking the crap they give me (which doesnt CURE me and makes me SICK as hell) so i researched it and I am healing myself NATURALLY and heave NEVER felt better. Maybe its just my experience with all the dr's i've had over the years, but I feel as though I am a number to them. a way to put their kids through college.
ya well too bad i have been all over the world and have relatives in foreign countries which offer "free" health care... its a joke. you believe this weird myth that if doctors are paid less they care more...... of course its a career...it is a well paying career all over the world...you seem to think you can't blend career and care together.....very odd... oh and i am a student of medicine
One of many examples, little one. I've been all over the world myself, most people with free healthcare value it. I even experienced in Holland. Well Socialist then (redistribution of wealth). Whatever "ism" it is. If being healthy was a right then there'd be NO codex alimentarius(which is WORLD WIDE AND ALL ABOUT MOENY) and doctors would be able to prescribe REAL remedies not just pills to keep you coming back for treatments. I hope it works out, but I DOUBT IT. Be careful what you wish for. Your state may tell you you cant have a procedure cuz your too old, just like the insurance co. Like you said, its not to make money, but SAVE it
Being healthy is a right in every first and second world country, even some third world nations. In most countries except the USA. and u dont think they will do whatever it takes to keep in business? the dr will get paid still. You hear how we go to the US in for care.......Lie as only .11% of Canadians received health care in the USA. UCLA did a study which stated 1 million Californians went to Mexico for Health care - these are stats only from One State and One country

The figures in this video are published by the WHO and widely known. Which part isn't true?
