I think the should aim on the bugs legs so it couldn't move and then shot at the bug it would have been better just at the moment at 5:05 too shot it and i think its weird that at wheen they shot at the bugs they die faster at 5:43 then 5:05. But very GOOD movie otherwise .A +

What I don't understand, is why the Mobile Infantry uses weapons designed for killing humans (i.e. small caliber automatic rifles) on creatures that are WAY the hell tougher than humans. At the technological level of humanity in this film, you'd think they'd at least have high-caliber explosive projectiles or high powered lasers that could cut the bugs up, ect. (instead of using what appear to be 5.56mm rifles... requiring about 100 rounds to kill one warrior Bug!)

Their bombers are still using unguided napalm tanks instead of guided missiles or straight-firing rockets. Their ships aren't even equipped to shoot down incoming plasma much less equipped for possible ship-to-ship combat; they don't even have any visible weapons hardpoints.
@cadman2300 Agree to a point, but guided munitions are better suited for single targets while napalm is ideal for a valley full of bugs, and how do you shoot down plasma?
@wilformil From what I've seen in the movie, what the bugs are shooting upwards appear to be just rock projectiles propelled by plasma, and they're traveling upwards at such a slow speed that it can't be that hard to react fast enough and shoot it down with a CIWS, missile, or flack gun.

Verhoeven's genius is undercutting jingoism while also making a work that's completely rousing. One of the best filmmakers to come out of the madness of WWII Europe. Truly a throwback to the movies of the 40s, and also a total satire. This movie isn't Robocop, but it's close.
One thing I always wondered about this movie was, where are the tanks and APCs? I mean armor would have seriously put the battle in the human's favor. Tanks with flame throwers and miniguns on them would have easily won this war.

The budget will not support combat growth and other technology growth like medical and communications. Galaga 3 for example shows this where 90% or so went into teraforming and the defence budget was near to nothing. Also fighing humans versus really huge bugs without an overhaul in tech. It is a hell of a lot easier to kill a human than a bug.
Lt. Raczak saves him just as he gets knocked out. If you watch the scene where they join the Roughnecks, the members of the company will mention it to Rico.
Apparently the military tactics of the future consist of Japanese Bonsai attacks, not taking cover, and having no armored or air support. Just rush them w/ waves of guys w/ small arms and light body armor which does nothing against a huge talon.

with all these comments about people complaining that they didnt bomb or had no support and whatnat. That they have fancy ships and awesome technology. The budget will not support combat growth and other technology growth like medical and communications. Galaga 3 for example shows this where 90% or so went into teraforming and the defence budget was near to nothing. Also fighing humans versus really huge bugs without an overhaul in tech. It is a hell of a lot easier to kill a human than a bug.
