  • you may have mentioned in your other vids, but what size sawvivor is that? The 15 or 18 inch? Great stuff btw, love winter camping-No bugs(mosquitoes)!

  • @chestertheman1 nuff said

  • what do you eat? i never see yu cook food in any of your camping vids.

  • @fluffywhiteducky In one he packed in chicken breasts and bacon and made bacon wrapped chicken breasts which looked super good, and in another he ate cup noodles with his son, but yea he doesnt show that much (of course it doesnt happen much either.

  • "if we were here for weeks we would have this Baton decorated with feathers..."

    Questionable comments...

  • Reminds me of my dog who will almost catch herself on fire before she moves away lol

  • word up man gotta love that fire starter shit pays off

  • Rewatching this series again after seeing it for the 1st time years ago let me remember why I got so into TNP.

  • i would have used a emergency blanket that has the shiny lining and attaching to the underside of the cover to act as a reflector as well as protect against the melting snow from simply dripping on you guess. perhaps that's a good idea for the future.

  • I just finished watching an hour and forty minutes of 2 dudes in the middle of nowhere cutting wood and making a fire....Worth every second. :]

  • Dig a shallow trench to fit your wood anvil. Make it a few inches deeper than the thickness of the anvil. This will allow you a solid base for batoning and prevent the piece of wood you are processing from sliding off.

  • After a long snow hike and wood prepping with a good bud....There is nothing more motivating then a blazin fire. Then a hot cup of soup and coffee....maybe a cigar....now thats living.

  • hey try using a space blanket in the shelter as a liner! reflexes heat and water too!

  • Still a great series... I've lost count how many times I've seen them now. =D

  • Did you guys cuddle? lol...jk

  • @tysy73 one man shelter is all you need if you spoon

  • Supremely funny LOL

  • I love that crackling.

  • WAIT! You forgot you Willie Nelson music and your Chesterfield packs full of weed!

  • And the fix you put into place addressed this bowing quite adequately. Experience = problem solved.

  • Great job in building the shelter. It's bowing a little, as you noted earlier, but seems sturdy enough.

  • This is the second time I watched this series. Love these vids.

  • uguys are screaming brokeback mountain lmao jk i like the vidz me and logan do this kinda thing to check out our videos plz.

  • The first minute of this video and seeing flames makes the all the effort worth it......Nothing like a campfire to get and keep motivated.....Well done guys!!!

  • Nutn, how to that kabar heavy bowie stand up?

  • I agree with canada monster. If you scrape off the bark it works great for feeding the fire in the very beginning.

  • why not use bark?

  • nice idea with the rocks i learned htat from experimenting when i was like 7

  • should i get a ka-bar heavy bowie or a ka-bar becker BK9? also should i get trioxane or wetfire?

  • @etekballer14 I would recomend the Heavy bowie because its cheaper than the becker BK9 and I find that the clip point on the bowie is better for fine work aswell. As for the choice of tinder I would suggest takeing some cotton balls and soaking them in vaseline. In my oppinion it works just as well as trioxane and wetfire and is cheap.

  • i want to meet karen i am a 33 yr old male that loves the outddors and an older woman with the same passion

  • Awesome guys, thank you for taking me on your journey. I agree your mate hits like a girl Haha! Fun and educational. I am in New Zealand, and have family in USA.

On a different note, fight the NWO. You have millitary background. Spread awareness about FEMA Camps, it is coming to you, what you share can help people over there. I know you have more to share. Time is short, Americans need to be aware of what is coming. Put your faith in the Lord, this was talked about a long time ago, bless you.

  • Lol "such a queer" nice nutn

  • i cant find Bs chanel

  • Nutnfancy, First off, Thank you and BuggestNuster for your service to the U.S.A.

Best video series I have ever watched! You and BuggetNuster kept the viewer in everything you did and I learned a boatload. Loved the "guy talk". Just bought the Recon Scout (your recommendation). Can't wait to start working it this weekend. Will TiVo the Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packer game. You wife and kid(s) must be awesome to know that you sometimes still "have to be a boy". Your dog rocks too!

  • Ok that must be the toughest knife I have ever seen :)

  • Good Job Guys!... Was fun to watch. I wont go into all the details of my equipment, but just say, it's quality is more than suitable for the cold winters in Canada. Everyone has different stuff and we all learn small tips from each other. All the Best in 2011 and remember, Play Safe, Be Safe, and Live Safe.... Cheers.... Out!

  • wow why are you bloweing it again?

a fire can't to more than burn

  • Hey Nutnfancy, where did Nuggetbuster go, I don`t see him anymore in your vids!!

I hope yourè still friends. In a year many things can change, i lost my wife, lost my job , but i watch your vids they help i guess and i go on, times will get better evetually! for eviryone!. best wishes for new year for everybody!!

  • why didnt they just knock the majority of the snow off of the lean to?

  • ive noticed in my lifee (im 12 so this is funny cuz i work with lots of dogs) dogs love to sleep next to a warm fire

  • @buttayhahahaahahah ive noticed in my lifee ( im 34 so this is funny cuz i dont work at all) everyone love's to sleep next to a warm fire

  • Hi, do you chose what kind of wood you start your fire with? I live in Norway, and always start mye fire with the lighter wood. Easy to start a fire with, but burns fast.

  • @fiskekongen im not nutnfancy but just sayin u should start with that then get some rly strong hard to break wood as it wood be denser and fire would burn it slower

  • Great videos !!!

  • Man, I totally wanted to start piling wood there with ya! I've been a boyscout for 6 or 7 years, done plenty of survival outings by myself, and I totally dig what you guys are doing! I wish I was somewhere other than Missouri so I could get out into some great backcountry!

  • why didnt you guys bring a axe

  • I never been so excited to see a fire being started, but will it always take all day to get a fire started in a survival situation. Bear Grylls seems to get his fires started rather quickly but I know they cut alot out of that show so Im just curious.

  • Great series guys!

Thanks for all your hard work. =D

  • Nutnfancy, i have seen this video for a hundred times and i still love it!!

Firemaking is something that is in the genes of man , every guy loves it!! And with a good friend makes it unforgatable!! very educating also!! thanks , jack

  • Dude... your videos are AWESOME. I should be studying, but im sitting here watching you chop wood and make fires, and use knives... and its turning me ON

  • nutin i love ur visa. im a 56 yr old lady stroke survivor. i don't travel as far or fast as i used to. but i still get out there. i sit here watching u start ur fire i can SMELL the fresh cut wood and the embers r landing at my feet. omg i love this stuff. ty hugs to ali ok?........karen

  • @cougarbahia Rock on, Karen. Great comment!

  • @nutnfancy Hey me and my friends are going camping this summer whats some good non-perishable foods that I could bring, normally I just bring k-rations but I want to try something else. Thanks!

  • @nutnfancy inbox me what kind of knife do u recamend

  • TA DAH~ PROBLEM SOLVED!

  • You could tape the interior of the shelter with pine branches for a matress (or make some kind of elevated bed for easier hot rocks stacking), and thatch the sides of it with plenty of spruce.

Anyway, using knee pads i had a bad experience as snow would stack between the pad and my leg and then melt, wetting it. They should always be kinda tightened with duct tape.

  • Great job, guys! I love this video series! Gonna buy me an RTAK2 soon because of your vids. My Outcast chipped out a bit (sharpenable but disappointing) in the cold weather when I received and tested it. Good blade but you hit the nail on the head with it being too brittle in cold (high skies series, I think). I look forward to having an RTAK2 that can withstand the cold. Thanks for your vids and keep up the good work!

  • @waxyTOOL They outcast is a great knife, i love it., but i wouldnt trust my life to it in the woods.

Choppin zombie heads, i would, haha.

  • banter free of crude remarks??? were you watching the same video??. Good info, a little long and old mans beard would have worked just as well as that fire gel as long as it's dry, if it's wet you can dry it under your jacket while you're cutting wood. Best of all it's free and abundant in the woods. Over all it was a good series of videos.

  • Fascinating! ...I watched all 5 in a row while I cooked crepes and Bannock ...it was refreshing to hear guys banter free of swearing and crude remarks ...lots of really useful information

    thanks for sharing

  • Awesome vids nutn but, just concstructive criticism, i think from my experiences maybe the fire was too big due to the work to get wood as anyone could tell from the video great guys great dog great tools great knowledge= all you need great job guys!

  • @TheColorPurple14 ya but nutn said thats what they wanted, a big fire. im sure they could've been conservative with their wood if they wanted to

  • Love all your videos man. You guys worked your butts off with that saw though. Wow, that was hard to watch. I was sweating watching you. As for me and my cousin, we can fell two good sized trees and have them fire ready in about 30 minutes with our Fiskar Hatchets. They are very light and almost magically in their elimination of wood. We are experienced woodsman, and neither of us leave the house (hardly) without them. Made in Finland, and it is all I need. Amazing tool. Very light., check it.

  • so for sleeping on the warm rocks, how do you know which rocks are safe to use (won't explode) and is there a limit of time it is safe for them to be in the fire?

  • Very good videos. Thanks for upploading this! Btw..., where did this take place? Im from Sweden northen part my self and it would be nice to look at a map to see where u'r at :-)

Keep em up, the vids..., very nice!

  • Show more of the dog!

  • great videos hell of a time killer though XD

  • Great videos Nutnfancy, learned alot, helped a lot also. Thank You.

  • why do you use a stove while you have a bigg campfire in front of you, you are only whasting your gass or alcohol, but it is a great vid do i liked to wach it and i watched pt 1 to 5 it was a great vid tx man

  • thanks guys! Hey do you have any recommendations on types of mess kits?

  • Real nice and informative videos. But I have a question how to you make sure that the sparks dont light up the shelter?

  • He blames the dog for farting!!

  • What you should do is try and stay in the woods for a week and vblog it, that would be a super series.

  • Watched a bunch of your knife reveiws and your fire making videos helped me out when my buddy broke his leg, you saved my friends life! thanks!

  • Nutn! thank you so much for all of the detailed videos. they are long but totally worth the time. I have watched 1-5 on firemaking, and i have to say you have shared invaluable knowledge with me. My friends and I are looking to do a first snow hike/camp far upstate NY this coming december. and we're collecting all the knowledge we can. Keep up the videos. You are right up there with survivorman on my favorite list of wilderness watches. Les has nothing on you!

  • I'm in need of a bit of help. Should i get a ka bar usmc for batoning or a kabar heavy bowie? I need one for chopping and batoning. Thanks and nice vid

  • @survival2918 Heavy bowie. More versatile.

  • awesome, watched all from 1-5. but i wouldent mind if ther would be a number 6 where u show us when u guys wake up and stuff. but a great vid and i learnd alot =)

  • excellent series guys. very informational. and very funny. lol.

    keep postin great vids.

  • Love the videos keep um coming. You and your buddy remind me of me and a cpl. of my buddies joking around all the time, when were out camping in the deserts or So. Cal. All good times.

  • next time you could even make a small dividing wall with the center post to keep B from snuggeling with you

  • nut you said you rather have a survivaal knife than an axe but a hatchet compramises the 2

  • Simply amazing videos! I love the banter between you and BuggetNuster, lots of amazing convosation and priceless information constantly! You could litrally feel the atmosphere change when you got that fire going though! God I could feel the warmth pouring through my screen after seeing you work your ass's off in the freezing cold.

Also theres your dog there? man's best friend and a well trained awesome dog? This couldn't get any better!

    5 stars!

  • So They slept in the lean too right?

  • man i miss camping out!!!! Camping in michigan, and camping in the desert, there is no comparison. MICHIGAN WINS hands down!

  • I learned a lot and had a good time watching these videos, thanks.

  • nice 5 part series. good info

  • Although I notice your blade angles were pretty safe when delimbing I teach any newbies that you should always keep the trunk between blade and leg. Make two sweeps along trunk. Safety Tip. When blowing on fire always make sure to balance and position yourself so if you faint you won't land in fire. It can happen. String your Plastic or tarp under the leanto, then any melt thru with just run off. Trench at back of lean will help remove melt. Maybe try push feeding a long log into fire.

  • Gday Guys, Well I am an Aussie so the snow experience is pretty thin. Enjoyed the education and it made me think about a few things that obviously isn't that much of a concern for us Downunder. Just some thoughts your way discard at will. A Machete with back sling. I know you speak of weight but the versatility and speed of this tool I would think would cut down on your work load. Especially when delimbing your main trunk.

  • Man, just watching you guys made me tired! Watching this whole series made me want to go camping SO bad. Not a lot of snow down here in Jacksonville, FL. Swamp camping in the summer; not so much fun. I guess watching your vids will have to suffice till cooler weather. I agree with the previous posters; you're efforts aren't wasted! Thanks for the videos.

  • @TheHungriestGrizzly camping is fun no matter what time of year it is. You could still practice this style fire making even though it would be more work than necessary. This works for the rain too, so maybe try it on a rainy day. That's new territory even Nutn hasn't covered yet.

  • You are literally an inspiration to me, I love your videos so much have watched them all, just wanted to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU for all the effort you put into these videos i hope all your views appreciate how much effort it does take, and i think both your knowledge and personality make your videos 10/10 and beyond.

  • If you only had your swedish firesteel ( wich i got ) how would you ignite the tinder ?? Would you make like a fuzzy tree stick with lots of small small fuzzy parts or? :)

  • One of the things that you could've done, is take some of these logs, put them through break them that way. Well, mainly the rotten and thinner stuff...

"Punky wood" as Survivorman is so ought to say...

  • That definitely was fun to watch....

  • In a real survival situation there wouldnt be any chemical firestarters. Survivor could use only some of these instead: hay, dry grass, some leaf trees bark, dead leaves, wood shavings and dry branches etc. Knives should not be used for chopping logs like that(hitting to peen). That kind of knife handling will blunt the blade edge very fast and will break off the blade eventually. There`s no use to damage tools if intention is to survive several days.

  • nice videos

  • I'm an Eagle Scout and we learned a lot of that stuff for merit badges. I really enjoyed this series of videos. Keep up the good work.

  • Nicely done TacticalSnoop I'm and Eagle as well. Haha yea and I think most of these skills are required for rank but the more in depth stuff is wilderness survival merit badge which was a fun badge to get.

    Fieldpup

  • I can make fire with no wood or starter, I just fart.

And did I hear you say Vietnam Tomahawk!?!?!?

That's nice , but I advise you. It's the worst hawk cold steel ever made. Get the Frontier Norse Pipe or Trail Hawk. All lighter than some blade you took with you.

  • 5* dude. this is my fav set of vids so far cuz BuggerNuster made it funny as well as amazingly informative. :D

  • you no when i go camping in high moisture content areas i get whole logs and dead rotted branches and stuff and i use pine needles and small twigs and the pine needles catch fire pretty good so how does the splitting help?

luv ur vids though nutn awesome

  • You are welcomes to Kiruna - Sweden to make fire in -35 degrees and 1 meter depth snow.

  • Comment removed

  • You do realize that once the fir is going you can throw whole logs on. You don't need to keep splitting.

  • @pkdiddy splitting wood is hella fun

Hard to stop when you got a good flow goin

  • Damn good videos. I watched from vid 1 to 5. Great job!

  • Looks like awesome fun!

  • still splitting lol lol

    crazy guys

  • That knife is pretty sweet. I finally got to test out my new Kabar Next Gen on a 2day backpack trip. Worked perfectly with delimbing trees

  • The Rat7 knife*

  • hickorybend444, i tell you this all those jokes they make are allright, Remember ,girls growup and become women, but boys get older but still be boys, i am 55 and i,am still a boy. Be shure never to lose that young boy inside of you, if you lose it you,re on the wrong road!!!

  • Great series of vids guys, that was full of info and fun

  • its better to have a lengthy fire, parallel to your bed from head to feet, this way your whole body gets a good amount of warmth.

  • man., im 14 and you guys act just like me and my friends when we go camping and are hanging out, i don't know if that's good or bad lol

    i think its good

  • lol "i dunno if its good that we act like u guys"

  • ok... one of the fire rules i learned in life. was never blow on a open flame,, which he did at the first of the video. good videos, , but Way to long to start it. and preparing it. the whole time they would of had that set. i would of had atliest 4 x the wood they had. I'd challenge these guys just for the hell of it.. and im in -15 degrees of cold weather right now.. lol

  • who makes the r tat 2 er wetever it is

  • great vids, but too many gay jokes. brokeback firestarters?

  • don't be a stick in the bud

  • Spreadin smt :D

  • -15 up here in Alaska the other night..Dick up the fire, your gonna suck....

  • what kinda lights are those hanging off the lean to?

  • Fenix Ld20 - and they're awesome you can purchase a conical lantern cover that goes over the business end that makes for a great lantern, even on the lowest setting

  • This series was fun to watch. I wish i could do this stuff more often. Thanks Nutnfancy.

  • Thanks for the video!

  • Have you ever tried the mayadust or mayasticks Nut? I heard it works very well, and thought I'd try it out to see for myself.

  • A excellent series of 5 videos, great campfire (preparation is everything) My firekit also contains trioxane (great stuff and reliabel), there is a big demand for them

  • in my firemaking kit i have an altoids tin filled with matches match striker swedish firesteel army, 1 cotton ball a lighter 2 coghlans fire lighters and 3 tinder quick

  • my fire kit contains wooden matches which burn better also cotton balls and a little amount of oil so the cotton can sustain

  • You guys rock! One of the best survival series I've seen. Testing knives like that is worth its weight in gold. Nothing beats knife discussions like a real test!

    Thank you!

  • i love staring into fire it bbrings back memorys

  • did that kno that rocks stones from the river would explode, very good to kno, cus if i was in this situation and wanted to warm some stones, i would have done it,

    great info, thanks man

  • nice touch using a stove when the fire is going, hehe

  • lol decorate the baton with fathers and teeth from animals . . . that sounds just like me and my friends when we go out!

  • What a blast! I wish I could go with you guys! (in case you couldn't guess by my online name!) Thanks for sharing your good times and expertise! You've got a new fan!

  • how do u know which rocks wont explode when ur heating them??

  • rocks explode when they get heated if they have waer traped inside them. if you dry them with low heat fire to dry them out they wont explode but it takes a wile

  • the ones that arent wet

  • dont use stones/rocks near a water system like a river lake etc

  • contrary to what youve heard, they dont 'blow up' like a grenade or anything. they definitely can crack though, and can send small pieces flying.

  • men are allways atracted by fire, i guess its in our gene's You are a lucky man if you can go out in the wilderness with your best friend(s) I consider you a lucky man!! (envy you!!)

  • Sometimes you do not have tools. In that case you use dead trees by bashing them against live trees. (leverge)This gives you the 2 to 3 inch starters. You can than drag big 'ol wood to the fire intact. feeding it to the fire one foot at a time. It takes a lot less time than this video.

    Dan

  • nutn, let me know if u have an open spot on your next campout. lol

  • What is the name of the stove that buggetnuster uses?

  • The stove is a whisperlite international.

  • Bugget how did you like the gortex pants for hiking/cw camping? Also what kind of boots were you guys rocking?

  • One of your best videos imo.

  • Oh that looks like so much fun, i love camping, the sound of that snapping fire is just so calming, I would love you go camping like that, good video Nutnfancy.

  • What does a fire reflector do?

And the fenix lights look great for the lantern purpose, im getting the lantern attachments tomorrow!!!

  • idk....you guys are so gratuitous about this stuff.. I don't understand why split a 3 inch thick log? or a 5 inch thick log? just toss it on the fire...

  • It was said in part 4, and I believe earlier as well, that round edged logs don't catch as well as split logs, at least in the conditions these videos were shot in.

  • good call!!

  • A good thing about aspen here in the Rocky Mtns is it burns HOT and LONG. So should they throw on a couple split logs of aspen chances are the still red hot coals and shells will be left in the morning.

  • love the survival skills. videos

  • B, you should be in more videos.

I love these videos. Cant wait to test these survival skills.

  • but that is the point. They catch Extremely easily and burn quick and hot. which creates a base for larger and larger pieces. its all about small steps. You had to learn to crawl before you could walk and before that you learned to role from your back to stomach. Each step is necessary for the next. Well those are my two cents.

  • is a runny noise hypothermia ? i aways get frozen toes ....i cant stand winter in indiana

  • a runny nose is a cold

  • Also sometimes(at least with me) in really cold conditions the cold makes my nose run.

  • Comment removed

  • soo my -15 degree sleeping bag going to keep me warm in the winter camping?

  • It mostly depends on the layering of your clothing. A -15 sleeping bag will do perfectly fine in -25 weather if you wear a good base layer, mid layer and a jacket. But generally speaking you should by a sleeping bag that fits the temperature (within -5 or +5 of the temperature outside) range that you'll be sleeping in.

  • The crackling sound is mesmerizing. I miss this.

  • I'm so jealous, I really want to do this type of thing. My wife won't do anything much past car camping :(. Maybe some day I'll get out to do this.
