Problems arise when christians think their bullshit should be taught in the classroom, then you should fight back....however...it is pointless. Christianity is big money, big business, it is a monopoly.... "believe it".

One problem I see, is you lump all Christians into the same basket. Isn't that what you say they do to you? I have no problem with atheists. I've had good conversation and good times with atheists. Some are very bright. Some have taught ME a few things about life and the universe. All I had to do was shut up and actually listen for a second. Christianity is not the problem, Christians are! They misunderstand their own book more than anyone else.
Hey they call them Patriots for those that do, but if you belong to a group of people who believe in a certain philosophical or scientific doctrine, what do you call it? If that ain't religion, I dunno what is
Idealogy is supernatural in it's intent, especially atheism, that quote me if I'm wrong, seeks proof of the supernatural through the basis of science and hard evidence and until then choose not to subscribe to any religious theology, and in a sense becomes a pseudo-religion in it's entirety.
what does supernatural intent even mean? supernatural is something that cannot possibly be explained by nature. science doesn't seek to prove the supernatural. it seeks to prove the -natural-. There's a large disconnect between what you know and what is the truth. I'll be glad to educate you further and give you book recommendations if you desire. atheism, therefore, isn't a religion.
That's truly brilliant. Science does not try to prove the supernatural. It tries to prove the natural. You know why I don't like christians? Because they live like they have another life in the bank. My message is live your life free don't be afraid you'll be damned to "hell" or awarded with "heaven". Just live your life, plain and simple.
Atheism isn't an organized belief system. This is like saying since we Americans follow the Constitution that Americans are therefore religious of the constitution.
Saying atheism is a religion is like saying everyone who doesnt believe in the invisible pink unicorn (or FSM or something) is in a religion by simply not believing in some random "deity". Atheism is a neutral stance - it is the theists who state there is a magical deity.
Great video. I give you 5 stars. And I (hopefully) have attached a video called "Deconstructing Atheism". Otherwise follow my name to my channel... as if you didnt know that. You seem smart, reflected, and I hope you´ll comment on many of my videos. I have subsribed to you.
I dont think deconstructive arguments make for an effective modus operandi against religion. You only validate their position by polarizing their views. The greatest enlightenment of mankind are the scientific achievements made throughout our history. These achievments punch holes into the dogmatic logic of religion and force them to come to terms with reasoning. As they slowly assimilate their doctrine with scientific truths, the distinction between religion and science will lessen.
You're generalising - the louder and more 'in your face' Atheists certainly do match your description - we're only human. But for every bitter and hateful Atheist there are many who are much more polite, yet still highly critical of religion.
How to think... thats exactly right. I can understand the pressures you have over the water. We all carry our individual set of attitudes values and beliefs, "militant" atheism is therefore inevitable. Maintaining cohesion therefore involves keeping on the subject!
The subject being: exploration of the theory of atheism. Any further "movement" will require the re-definition of the movement itself, for example an anthropocentric atheist moment for example, secular humanists. So, are you simply an atheist, or do you have an agenda?
well..diversity is what rings to mind..we must not underestimate the power in the fact that we not a flock of sheep. We should try to be loyal to those that have similar goals, but appreciate that we go at it from different angles. great work btw Tren, impressive piece of work. :)
simply live it. if you succeed, people will seek discussion with you more often and ask you more often because they get a feeling that you have an open and neutral mind and always search for the logical answer. being an atheist and living it can make you a good problem-solver, and since everyday-life causes lots of problems this can have positive influence on your reputation in your community.
i also try to apply reason and logic whenever i talk with other people. in conflicts, you can try to put the arguments together and use logic, it is a good way to solve conflicts.
and ask questions whenever something seems illogical, try to get other people explain things to you.
well, what i do is that i try to get people interested in science. not necessarily evolution, but anything that is beautiful/interesting, like the pictures we get from the hubble telescope, or... well, even mathematics has stuff that can easily get attention simply because its beautiful. fractals for example, or a crystal-clear mathematical proof.
I hear ya- more elites need to stand up & be honest- but for politics- the Zeitgeist evolves on its own when critical mass is reached- how that is done well... let's be ourselves whatever that entails- atheism alone is not enough methinks- maybe a new mythology needs to be created- an easily understood & useful metaphor without being religiously literal.
"You can't start a thinktank with a room full of retards." LMAO!!!!!! (I really was laughing my ass off; it's great to see something that gives you an honest chuckle.)
Ok, I'm probably stepping into the line of fire here, but I just have to put in my two cents. First of all, atheists (and even deists) have been predicting the end of religion for hundreds of years. Second, I disagree that knowledge is the opposite of faith. Lastly, I don't understand why you care what people believe. If there is no God, then there is no ultimate purpose, so what does it matter? Perhaps I oversimplify, but that is how it seems to me.
It is an oversimplification I'm afraid. Christian religion particularly has stifled the growth of science in the past and continues to stifle critical thinking today (young earth creationists, anti-evolution, and intelligent design proponants to name a few). It is important to draw these lines for the continued life of our species. We care because we care about humanity. It has nothing to do with god per se.
Of course it was a simplification, how in depth can I go in six lines? So you are saying that because the Christian viewpoint opposes other ones, it stifles them. Personally, I see opposing viewpoints as a positive thing. For instance, if evolution (macro, not micro) cannot address problems such as irreducable complexity, then should we not examine alternatives?
We are not *right*, however I think the atheist position is less wrong than the theistic one.
We do need to come up with a solid alternative to theisic religion. I respect myself and others enough to put my views out there in the hope that some of it will be picked up by others.
I agree in that atheism is not an absolute -right-. People are entitled to their beliefs no matter how silly any of think they might be. I think if we can promote atheism as a solid, respectable alternative that atheism will take care of itself. =)
Eloquent as usual, I think more videos with positive messages about atheism can be affective, many people believe that the "macaca" video was the difference between a republican, and democratic senate, every entertaining, and positive atheist youtube video will help the youth of America realize, at a minimum, that atheists are not evil or immoral, and that makes our message more palatable.
We also need to stress to young people that religious differences, and the belief by many Christians that the world is coming to an end within the next 50 years "The Rapture" are as Sam Harris puts it "perfectly maladaptive to planning for a sustainable future" for them and their children.
I also believe that ridiculing the most extreme beliefs such as the soon to come rapture, and young earth creation, could create a strong coalition of atheists, agnostics, and more the more moderate religious, against the 30% of people who identify themselves as Christian fundamentalists.

There can be no rational discussion with any "believer".
Why don't you realize this?
It is impossible.
All arguments have been chewed up and spit out time and time again.
How do you expect to have a rational discussion with an irrational person,
i.e. "a believer"

I do agree that reaching a hardcore believer is nigh impossible. My efforts are targeted more towards education, particularly of fence sitters.
