  • I've got a old Beretta model 102 (.22) that looks just like the 92F. Its probably 30 years old, has been used extensively and still works great.

  • hey sootch, huge fan, is it possible for you to get hold of a USP compact? i personally love your reviews and i would like to learn more about that handgun.

  • I won't say anything bad about the Beretta M9. I carried one during my one deployment to Iraq and I felt good about it. In fact, I will likely get one--money permitting--simply because that is the weapon I carried to war. Some of you are right however; the armed forces will ultimately move to a more modern pistol/caliber combination, but that will take time. Remember, the primary pistol in use during the '91 Persian Gulf War was still the .45 M1911A1 -- fully 7 years after the M9 was adopted.

  • While they are nice pistols, their expected service life is pretty pathetic.

Many guns that are in the same price range, like Glocks, will go for a hundred thousand rounds or more with no major parts breakages, if any.

Our fighting men should have been equipped with SIGs or Glocks.

  • Seal team 6 carried HK Mp5 Colt M4 and Sig P226.

  • @aaronscrewme ...... That is your choice, sounds good to me if that's your decision.

  • I liked the way it fit my hands and how balance it felt.Your vid just tip the scale into me buying one.

  • I like to say that you have a great channel.

  • Hey Sootch, I had been thinking of getting one for the last 6 months, after I watched this vid I went and bought a brand new 92FS today! Thanks for a great review.

  • @DarthVapur For the money and such i compared the Taurus

PT99/92 I found them to be equal to the Beretta's at a much

lower cost. And i am Italian...lol.....

  • Really nice looking pistol, loved them since I watched Boondock Saints movie. As soon as the car is paid off........

  • Cadillac Baby! I'd rather drive a Cadillac than a Yugo!

  • The military uses hollow point 9mm ammo, and the prohibitions have nothing to do with the Geneva convention. (It's the Hague convention.) Other than those two inaccuracies, very nice video.

  • Love your videos, you've helped me decide what to buy to protect my home. Keep it up!

  • I respectfully disagree. Modern Polymer framed weapons that law enforcement is using makes a much better service weapon than the 92F. It's just too heavy and bulky for what you get. The US military deserves better.

  • I love the sound of the Beretta 92F when it fires.

  • I'll never understand this handgun. I have no doubt it's a great gun, I think something like this is great in a situation where the individual won't have a primary weapon, like police work. But this weapon on top of a primary weapon, doesn't make any sense to me, because it's just too much bulk.

  • Yeah,me too.The movie "Lethal Weapon"(1987)influence me tobe interested in this pistol(even though I was a young teenager at the time).

    @:36,I just luv that sound.

  • houge convention

  • Want one so bad

  • is that round count for standard pressure or +P loads?

  • sights are misaligned and the silencer is glitched shitty pistol

  • @gtp77 thats only in MW2 MP

please is it a need to have game comments in every gun vid on YT??? NOTHING is even close to be realistic in MW2!!!!

  • I remember being issued the pistol in 1989 in Panama when I was with the 1/508th Parachute Infantry when I was a M60 gunner. The first ones were blued and they rusted easily in the jungle.During the invasion it stayed in my holster all of the time.15 years later I carried it again in Iraq which was an improved version.I was in Kuwait before crossing to Iraq on the range and I out shot everybody in my unit to include all active duty soldiers. Most National Guard units had a lot of cops.and shooters

  • lol at 4:18 i really thought u ejected a round, i freaked out, as u pulled the trigger earlier :O

  • @0611930024838 you freaked out? cool.

  • I'm with you on this one. If it's too heavy for you, you probably don't belong in the military and should be regulated to training with weaklings and small framed women.

  • The M9 is a time tested pistol design. It's designed to be very robust and reliable. It's a user friendly pistol to operate, and it is especially good for new shooters in my opinion.

  • The Beretta 92f is a nice pistol. You can't go wrong with a Beretta 92f. A lot of people complain that it is too heavy, but from my experience the extra weight allows for reduced felt recoil, and greater accuracy when shooting rapidly.

  • I was actually hoping that you would do a review on the Beretta 92. I thought you didn't like the Beretta.

  • 4 people got shot by Mel Gibson.

  • Beretta 92F is a nice pistol, I even own one. But the weight and bulk is obsurd. My son as well as his military partners would rather carry a Glock17 or Glock19. All weight adds up.

  • @purkjason I second that. It is a very good design over all. It is reliable, accurate, and funtions very well. The design is a bit older now though, and it is very large and heavy for a secondary weapon. Great home defence, sucks to carry the thing around.

  • @purkjason I don't want glock, and neither does anybody I know of.

  • Comment removed

  • @jblcva What do I care about Law Enforcement? To bad you can't grow your mind.

  • @aaronscrewme What are you ranting about? My uncle is a LEO.

Do you just want to argue?

  • @aaronscrewme We are all gun lovers. We are on the same side here...

Remember, divide and conquer.. Go out and buy a new Gun.

God save The Republic....Live Free or Die

  • the good part of the m9/92fs is since it carry s a lot of round you can kill yourself mutiple time

  • could anyone explain what the (...uh, protrusion) on the right side of the framejust above the trigger and opposite the slide release?

  • this gun was going up against the Ruger P85 to replace the 1911's... they are very similar as far as operation goes.

  • @kashmankashief The guns submitted for the trials were:

    -Beretta 92SB-F/ Winner

    -Sig P226/ Finalist- Technically Acceptable

    -Steyr GB/ Terminated

    -FN BDA/ Voluntarily Withdrawn

    -Colt SSP/ Voluntarily Withdrawn

    -Walther P88/ Failed

    -HK P7M13/ Failed

    -SW 459M/ Failed

GAO report to Congress, June 1986

  • @jakkd07 If my memory serves me well, the Sig's were

to expensive. The Beretta's fit the budget. That's why they

    were chosen over the Sig.

  • @jblcva No and the sig is the M11.

  • @aaronscrewme Not what was reported. Seal Team 6 had 226's

    not the shorter M11/228

  • @jblcva ST6?!?!? That's been deactivated for years now... And who said anything about them? I merely stated that there are sigs in service as the M11.

  • @aaronscrewme You mean Seal Team that killed Osama?

That was Seal Team 6. Reports said they had 226's....

  • @jblcva No need to rely on memory, word of mouth, rumors, or friends of friends. It's public information, and you can access the GAO reports to Congress concerning all the ins and outs of the testing, the decision, and the appeal of the decision. The Sig won in some categories, the Beretta in others. In the end they both passed, and were the only two deemed acceptable. It is not as simple as dollars and cents, although that certainly played a part in the final selection.

  • @jakkd07 IMHO There is no way i take a Beretta over a Sig Sauer.

  • @jblcva I'm not saying you should take one or the other. But both are combat tested and proven. And the Beretta is one of the most extensively tested pistols in history, whether you are talking about selection process, or simply combat use. Again, take the time to read the detailed reports on every aspect of the testing. It's pretty straight forward stuff. No manufacturer is perfect, and each have had their issues.

  • @jakkd07 Thanks for the info. But for my personal preference

i like the Sig. I also don't care for the 9mm round. I like the

ballistics on the Sig357 cartridge. I have 4 convertible pistols

and they all shoot the 357sig. As well as 40cal..

  • 92 FS... maybe?

  • Idk which came out first but, the 92f is was the official sidearm of John Mclane in Die Hard. Until the last when when he had a Sig. Anyway though Its a good gun. I carried it while I was in Iraq. That rear sight gets to be razor sharp though

  • does silencer fix?

  • Sootch are you a Youtube Partner? you have enough subs!

  • I think it's a good idea to cross train with the beretta 92/96, glock 17/22, sig P-226 and S&W 5906/4006/4566. They're very common among law enforcement so in a SHTF situation you're very likely to come across these weapons. It's just nice to have a feel for them in case you have to scavenge for weapons and ammo.

  • is there a round count for a glock before its worn out?

  • It's a nice looking gun, I'll give it that. I'm just not a big fan of hammers. Great video!

  • Very reliable especially when you clean it :P

  • why doesn't the military use a weapon made in the US?

  • @tk4227 The Beretta made for the US military is made right here in the USA.

  • @jakkd07 ...I thought they were made in Italy

  • @tk4227 No, the pistols made for the US Armed Forces are made in America.

  • @tk4227 M9s are made in America, 92s are made in italy

  • @machinegun911 The 92FS is made both in the USA and in Italy. You can buy either. The armed forces purchases guns produced in the US.

Reference BerettaUSAs official website for more information.

  • @machinegun911 US 92s aren't made in Italy anymore either. Most every civilian 92 in the US now is made by Beretta USA in Maryland.

  • Could you do a newer review on the CZ75?

  • @DarkheartTheHeritic yeah you could argue the FS is preferable. really it is unlikely that you could abuse one enough to cause a slide failure anyway... unless you really like running thousands of rounds of +P+ through your gun.

All service M9's were converted to the FS standard, and all current production M9's and 92's have that same safety device.

  • I hate seeing the Glock Worshipers roll into videos like this about how amazing their plastic brick is.

  • @DanielJosephTV I'm an LEO with almost twenty years of experience, and those "plastic bricks" as you call them have never stood up to the Berettas as far as accuracy, durability, reliability, or ergonomics. People that talk about the military and Berettas need to talk to the guys that I do. Isreal has been using Berettas for years in the desert without problems. Failures with Berettas in the desert have been traced to the DOD buying aftermarket mags of dubious quality and finish.

  • Loved this review! Keep'em coming!

  • Yay, I finally have a firearm just like sc00tch, except mine is the M9A1.

  • Great video! Gee, the Beretta sure did clean up very nice. I was not to sure if I really liked this model Beretta but after watching this video I have a different on it. It just might be one that I add to my collection. Thanks for making the video.

  • Frist pistol i ever shot and still one of my favorite. The gun is super light and you barely notice the recoil.Great Gun.!!!!!

  • Replacing a standard sidearm isn't really a priority. Screw the Hague, let them carry a decent hollow point and move on. We can shoot the enemy with more powerful rifle round, we can blow you up with Predator and Reaper drones, but somehow we can't let the troops carry a hollow point?

Fact of the matter is the M9 has served for many years. And it isn't going anywhere, anytime soon.

  • 30k? thats a joke. glocks run well over 100k as well as HKs.

  • I think it's the Hague convention that restricts hollow points in war time.

  • No that's a great review.

  • the cuts are nice :)

  • I did a one handed field strip of this thing in like 40 seconds that I recorded and that I'll put on youtube once I get the chance.

  • its funny that you would post these beretta videos. i was just looking at the m9a1 version last weekend. i have an issued m9 (as a civilian) here on the marine base for the shooting team and they are used and abused by marines. i know how tough these things are. that is why i want one now. they are just great shooting guns, period.

  • She's a beauty, great review!

  • I went CZ75b but I love the way my dad's M9 feels in my hands. Great gun. I just wouldn't recommend concealed carry unless your like 7' tall.

  • i just recently bought the 92fs...i got a great deal on it but when i took it out to shoot it had issues almost every round. some fail to ejects and a couple fail to chamber. the chamber issue is probably the mag but is the ejection? i really hope a new mag will help because even tho its new to me its already one of my favorites(unless it doesnt function)

  • Slides did not crack because of a problem in the gun, the 9MM NATO ammo that the US government was having manufactured had pressure levels WELL above the specification. Beretta designed the pistol to operate within a certain pressure level, you can't blame that on them.

The only gripe I have with the Beretta is the position of the safety. If you perform immediate action on it, you can too-easily engage the safety

  • You, sir, have completely changed my mind about this series of handguns. I used to absolutely despise it, but now... The 96 is on my "to buy" list... there goes more money...

  • @Symbiot5 i had a 96 and loved it. heard they had more issues than the 9mm but i never did

  • Nice gorhrough man..

  • Always liked the 92, but it is just too big for my short fingers.

  • whoa whoa whoa America is not a signed member to the Geneva convention that is why we use DU on people, .50 on people, and much much more.

  • I can't find a difference between the M9 and the 92FS.

There's a price difference, so there is a difference.

  • You are the only person i have ever seen that has a positive view of the M9

  • great review i like the 92 A1 =]

  • Great gun.

  • I like the M9 . But the switch from the 1911 to the M9 is THE dumbest decision the DoD ever made. There is a good reason that most of the tier 1 units are rocking custom 1911s. There are alot of reports comming out of Afghanistan about failures due to dirt , magazines and the ineffectivness of the 9mm round. I have no problem with JHP 9 mm for civilian carry / police duty. But the 9 mm Nato FMJ is failing our troops.

  • @scdefion I agree, We should definitely replace 9mm with 45acp. I know I would have a 45 on my hip. Great to see you last weekend~

  • @sootch00 ARMY TIMES (an army newspaper) ran an article a couple weeks ago about the Army opening up M9 replacement competitions. They want to replace the M9 with an existing sidearm, so it shouldnt take too long for a decision to be made (vs the service rifle replacement competition which ended with the Army staying with the current rifles system at a discounted price). There was alot of talk about a different caliber being chosen over 9mm competitors.

  • @cheturt The Coast Guard has already switched to .40 S&W as their standard side arm.

  • @sootch00 The DOD should issue XD .45 ACP. It has high capacity, double stacked, light weight, dependable, easy to clean/disassemble, accurate and durable.

I had to carry an M9 in the Marines and I would have taken an XD .45 or .40 over anything else.

  • @sootch00 .45 is definately the way to go. Always good to see you.

  • @sootch00

Cutting costs and worldwide renown is the main reason. 9mm is a much more universally and widely used round. Don't forget the US don't keep most of their small arms. They send their old small arms to their allied nations in the Third World. You can't believe how many old S&W Vietnam era revolvers and M3 Grease guns are here for the police.

When the US find a new M9 and M4 replacement, theyslowly sell them off to SE Asian and African countries for a profit. 9mm is universal and cheap.

  • @sootch00 Why?The 45 is to big and has a quick that requires lots shooting experiance to control. 9mm is better. With 9mm you can have a high cap gun, lightweight gun, more ammo, and lower recoil.

  • @Humberto4790 Just like with anything else each option has its own advantages but I just don't see it near as black and white as you. First how did you, apparently easily and definitively, dictate that 9mm is simply better? Saying that .45acp is too large, has too much recoil, and requires too much experience to control. May be true for you, but is still just 1 persons opinion. An opinion myself and many others don't share. What about the 1000's of other options one may prefer. Let take just 1.

  • @Primeda I concur, It has alot to do with the firearm that you are shooting the 45 ACP from. Military 1911's are very smooth, and I think that It's very controllable. I'm 16, and I think the 45 is a joy to shoot. Then again, I shoot the M9A1, the S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece, and some other pistols.

  • The FNP-45 is lighter and more compact. Plus for myself or the average shooter with a little practice is as controllable as the M9. Yet with the stopping power of the 45 cartridge and a standard 15 round mag. Same as the standard factory 92 mag. And that's just one option! What about all the 40sw pistols that match or exceed the M9 specs? Still see such a dramatic advantage 9mm? I sure don't but that's just my opinion! Each has its own advantages if you just look. Don't be so fixed in your ways

  • @Primeda

Such are the headaches of the NATO system of standardization.

Switching calibers now would be practically impossible. 9mm does the job fine, there just needs to be some revision work done to the hague convention articles to allow for more effective ammunition. I think a round that puts someone down faster means less suffering, but apparently things weren't that way back in 1965.

  • @scdefion The military specifies a requirement for a double strike capability in case of a light primer strike or a hard primer in the ammo. You'll never see a single action pistol come back into regular service, nor striker fired pistol.

  • @fuzzylumps1 Not to be a smart butt , but I dont really care why they require it . It is still dumb. And I will place money on the fact that you will see a striker fired pistol in service before all is said and done. I have it on good authority (boots on the ground ) , that about 200 Glock 21's saw and continue to see service in Afghanistan with the 5th SFG.

  • @scdefion We will see, but I have to say that I doubt we'll see striker fired pistols in our armed forces any time soon. It's all the fault of the ammo, the pistols are 100% ok for civilian duty, but military ammo is required to have a much harder primer than civilian ammo because it is treated and transported much rougher. A failed ignition on the first hammer strike is alot more common in the GI stuff. I doubt that uncle Sam will change this requirement.

  • @scdefion Forgot to mention on that last post that I have first hand experience with this. I had some 9mm NATO that I bought online and every third round my glock 19 would fail to fire. The primers showed clearly that they had been struck (stricken?) but had failed to ignite. This is why the Army wants double strike capability.

  • @scdefion i think our troops should carry either the Glock 22,21 or 31.

  • @scdefion Most SF/SOF have the option to buy whatever they want. And you'll notice that most don't stick to one single type (or brand for that matter) of pistol. Beretta, HK, Sig, Kimber, etc, these are all some of the weapons in the military arsenal, used by different units for different reasons. There are always different tools for different jobs. Lets be careful not to take stuff we've 'heard', mixed with personal opinion, and pass it off as matter of fact information.

  • @scdefion They should of just switched to a double stacked .45 if they wanted more capacity

  • @BeanDip0913 Capacity doesnt seem to be the main issue. But certain other features such as double strike , external safties and etc. ad nausem. People like to think that our military gets the best available and it's just not so. Remember alwys that military gear is made by the lowest bidder. Also it always has it's requirements thought up by some egghead or bean counter that hasnt spent anytime at the sharp end of things.

  • @scdefion It was only 1 issue. The .38 and .45 were replaced due to in part to "operational deficiencies". The JSOR required a ambidex magazine catch, standard 9mm NATO ammo, lanyard loop, trigger size permitting gloves, 10 rd min mag capacity, a min standard barrel length, a max fully loaded weight limit, reliability and service life under harsh conditions superior to the then current .45 etc.

All information provided from the publicly available GAO report to Congress, June 1986.

  • @scdefion would u recommend it for an SHTF gun? or glock 19?

  • @lostd00d Anything is better than nothing. That being said , I have carried Glocks mostly 23's , 22 or 19/17 for 20 years , on and off duty. You cant get much more fool proff than a glock. To quote gun writer Ken Hackathorn " If you want a gun you can treat like a lawn mower , buy a Glock. " Glocks are the AK of handguns. They dont require alot of upkeep and arent picky about what you feed them.

  • A good overview of this firearm. I inherited one of these and this video has inspired me to pull it out of the closet to get acquainted with it. May even consider carrying it; will save me from carrying a spare magazine on-body.

  • I love my 92fs.. if i ever put enough rounds through it, to the end of its mechanical life.. I will definitely be picking another one up.

  • As always, another great review. Always wondered about the open barrel, now I know. Thanks!

  • Makes me wonder what companies will big on the contract to replace the Canadian Forces Browning Hi Powers, Sig 225's and 226's that will have their weapon made under licence by Colt Canada. I hope Sig enters and wins.

  • 1911 is sexier :D

  • Right it has nothing to do with the geneva convention but wit the Hague treaty. Geneva convention does not handle firearms and ammuntion restriction.

    Great video.

  • Very nice video, it was also the replacement for .38 revolvers for us Security Forces in the Air Force, also when stationed stateside we carry with HPs

  • great review sootch! learned a thing or two as usual. thanks.

  • Honestly the 92F is my second favorite pistol, right behind the CZ75a. There's something about them that I really love. Also, I cant quite remember what the difference between the 92F and the 92FS is.

  • @sootch00

There is a quite a bit of the P38 influence into the M9 like the exposed barrel and the barrel locking block.

  • you make that gun look very nice, but i dont see the advantage of this over a 45 caliber glock, maybe ergonomic wise...

  • Going to be buying a m9 soon

  • Thanks for the video, nice to see some gun reviews.

  • 1911 is better

  • Comment removed

  • If they only made these in 45acp.

  • I've wanted one for awhile, perfect for my big hands. Works well with +P ammo too.

  • Forgot "old"

  • Nice video. I love the 92 series. In fact, I carry one everyday. For me, even concealed carry isn't that big of a deal. But everyone has different opinions. :)

"That's some serious "stuff"' you carry." -Murtaugh

    "Be my guest" - Riggs

"Hm, 9mm Beretta, takes 15 in the mag, one up the pipe. Wide ejection port, no feed jams." - Murtaugh

"What you got in there." -Riggs

    ''Four inch Smith."- Murtaugh

"Six shooter huh? A lot of of timers carry those." Riggs

    :)

  • I wanted one ever since I saw Lethal Weapon myself.... I found a 92FS in a pawn shop for $650 but it's worth about double that. It's a very rare edition called the 92FS Golden Stainless. High polished stainless steel with gold etching on the slide and the barrel. Only about 100 of these were made. I have to say though, I am a lot more accurate with my Px4 Storm though and that's lighter with a shorter barrel.

  • what do you think of the 96 centurion 40 cal?

  • reliable? kidding, right?

  • Loved this vid Sootch! Long time fan of the 92 but got back into them again recently. I've recently owned a M9A1 and now have a 92A1 with dovetailed front sight. I'll attach a video response that shows how to do a simple & effective trigger improvement in case you're interested. Please never stop making vids brother...love all the great info!

  • AAAAAHHH, if I hear one more gun reviewer say that hollowpoints are banned under GENEVA CONVENTION!! Its the HAGUE CONVENTION!! Please!!

  • Looks so much better now that it's clean there Sootch!!!

  • How is this gun to carry? Seems a little bulky in width but nothin too bad from what i've seen. How do you like it for carry?

  • @mathnerdm Too big to carry unless you have it on your hip for open carry... IMHO. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 Oh ok thanks! Want to pick one up soon and this video was helpful and informative. Thanks and God bless

  • @mathnerdm I have a Beretta 96A1 (its in 40 S&W) that i use for Home defense, but i also carry it when im hunting in a shoulder harness. It's alittle heavier than the 92F, but i hardly notice that it there. If you carry it under a vest or a jacket you could do it very easily. If you want a railed version of the 92 (which i would highly recommend) get the 92A1 its in 9mm, but has a weapons rail like my 96A1

  • @mathnerdm I open carry in AZ with one. I love the pistol, sure there are lighter options but carry what you like. It rides in a blackhawk serpa.

  • @mathnerdm Its as heavy as a Gov 1911 but thicker. I've had to carry one on duty and it isn't so bad in a service holster, OWB or vest rig or shoulder carry but forget concealed carry. A full sized 1911 is easier to carry IWB because it is thinner, a Glock is just as thick but much lighter. A 92FS is purely a service or range gun, or for home defense it would be ok.

  • The US ARMY is going back to .45

  • Get video,, did any of the spent shells eject back towards you? I have shot M92's that had a tendency to throw the spent shell back towards me.

  • great reliable military gun. however unpopular in australia with gun clubs as it isnt seen as a good competition target gun. virtualy every member in my club who has purchased one of these selll it within six months.

  • ☆☆☆☆☆

  • I think I was just converted to the Beretta camp, bye bye glock.

  • I dig it, but for reliability I'll stick to my P226. Good video, keep them coming!

  • You should check out a Bersa Thunder 9. It is very similar to a M9 or CZ. It shoots very smooth.

  • The M9/92 doesnt do very well in water/muck tests, but they do shoot pretty well. I never could get used to the grip being as wide as it is, but it is a decent pistol. You can get some really good deals on them now with all the wonder polymer guns making up most of the market. I wish they would have stayed with the original design that allowed for cocked and locked carry with a thumb safety like the 1911. That was a cool gun.

  • good stuff as always.

  • Best vid on a my favorite hand gun. "You think im crazy?!"

  • Good video. Nice little history lesson on the the Beretta.

  • This is what I carried as an officer ;)

  • This thing didn't prove its self until the use of hydroshock. The .45 was great with FMJ which was cheaper. The rounds they use now are higher priced but works well. Not much of a trade off if you ask me.

  • Very nice pistol Sir!

  • nice video

  • Burt Gummer IRL

  • tyvm for the review's you provide.

  • very cool review--ty

  • You should have played Born in the USA as a background music. :)
