I love the morning after the wedding, when he comes out of the bedroom and walks up to her and just says, "By gum..." I never thought that could sound sexy, but so help me, the way he says it there, it does.
Is Ada Figgins really saying "Look at him, slinking away with his fancy bitch."? That's what it sounds like to me. I'd love to see a transcript of every word Ada and Mrs. Figgins say...
I loved this film as child and still do. My mum and dad and the rest of the family would sit and watch it every time it came on tv and then the video came i swear we must of nearly wore it out GREAT FILM,GREAT MEMOIRS
The cry of the useless - we had two choices - Hobson's Choice and Hobson's Choice. Of course it is not true. Sounds like Malcolm Arnold film music though. I will check that out at least.
North Americans who only know David Lean for epics like Dr. Zhivago and Bridge on the River Kwai are deprived from experiencing much of his genius. Hobson's Choice modestly eclipses both. And don't get me started on Great Expectations...
Now the mission is to find the whole thing - A brilliant film and I can´t help but think Charles Laughton must have been Albert Finneys inspiration to start acting. (Finney is from Salford and if I´m not mistaken this film is supposed to be in Salford.)
Hobsons Choice is a David Lean Classic. It is my favourite film....My Dad introduced me to this film many years ago. Dad is no longer here...but the film is and it reminds me of me and Dad every time I put it on!
This film is the best example of what love should be; helping each other to be the best of ourselves. It illustrates that the finest love is forged through adversity & hardship, where each person loves & supports the other against seemingly insurmountable odds. Beautiful film.
@smoojah Thank you for putting this here and infroming a wider audience of its existence. I think this is the greatest movie ever made: Wittily scripted, perfectly paced (by a pre-Hollywood David Lean) with perfect performances all round. It also has that certain quality that is sadly lacking in most modern movies: CHARM.
My all-time favourite film. Willie Mossop's transformation from down-trodden boothand to respcted businessman is a joy, due entirely to the legendary John Mills' acting skills.
Absolutely brilliant, thankyou for sharing it with us, I have it on video-John Mills was such a sweetheart in this wonderful British film,it is a shame he is no longer here. I hope that you show more clips, we don't see movies of this calibre anymore.
I'm watching the movie again, right now. Definitely one of my favorites with an outstanding cast!

"I told you to come."
So romantic, so poetic.
"I'd really rather wed Ada, Maggie, if it's all the same to you."
How could any woman resist that?
