  • I'm watching the movie again, right now. Definitely one of my favorites with an outstanding cast!

  • I love the morning after the wedding, when he comes out of the bedroom and walks up to her and just says, "By gum..." I never thought that could sound sexy, but so help me, the way he says it there, it does.

  • @crocostimpy "Look at him, slinking away with his fancy bit."

  • Is Ada Figgins really saying "Look at him, slinking away with his fancy bitch."? That's what it sounds like to me. I'd love to see a transcript of every word Ada and Mrs. Figgins say...

  • @crocostimpy i think she says 'fancy bit'.

  • One of the best films ever made, another David Lean classic.

  • I loved this film as child and still do. My mum and dad and the rest of the family would sit and watch it every time it came on tv and then the video came i swear we must of nearly wore it out GREAT FILM,GREAT MEMOIRS

  • This is a wonderful film. I caught it quite by accident, but it is now a favorite of mine!

  • john mills is wonderful in this movie :)

  • To me, this one of the best films , even with Charles Laughton the ham.

"Beware the Wrath to Come ! " hahahaha

    Love this movie !

  • Awe inspiring vision of Britain long lost.

  • loved the book and love the movie. Thanks for posting, really enjoyed catching it again.

  • Richard Wattis too. A plaque seen for him too recently.

Subject: rank - ergo - me!

    Anagram: Greek Roman

  • It was Malcolm Arnold. He wrote the music. Seems he was more prolific than I had realised before.

Subject: schweppes fox kin aghast tinkerbell hero hits leaks

Anagram: which reflexes the appalling risks these banks took

  • The cry of the useless - we had two choices - Hobson's Choice and Hobson's Choice. Of course it is not true. Sounds like Malcolm Arnold film music though. I will check that out at least.

Subject: Branch soil onions - one to watch

Anagram: Nation Law torn - Hobson's Choice

  • ".......there's another woman" Priceless

  • I have this great wee film on dvd.You can usually get it on those independent stalls in shopping centers.

  • My parents saw this film on their first date I believe. It has a special place in our family for several reasons.

  • North Americans who only know David Lean for epics like Dr. Zhivago and Bridge on the River Kwai are deprived from experiencing much of his genius. Hobson's Choice modestly eclipses both. And don't get me started on Great Expectations...

  • I am so glad to see this wonderful film is still appreciated !

Charles Laughton was a bit corny, but everyone else is priceless !

The slap is fantastic, what timing, hahahahaha

" Look at him slinking away with his fancy bitch "... hahahaha

Thanks for posting, I love this movie

  • Playing one of the younger daughters is Prunella Scales, Sybil on Fawlty Towers.

  • "I've come."

    "I told you to come."

    So romantic, so poetic.

"I'd really rather wed Ada, Maggie, if it's all the same to you."

How could any woman resist that?

  • "Come on lad, get it over." Brilliant.

  • I have loved this film for many years but have never understood why it is set in Lancashire and they all have Yorkshire accents

  • I Love Sir John Mills!

  • I SAW THIS MOVIE ON TURNER CLASSICS AND FELL IN LOVE WITH IT IT IS SUCH A CUTE MOVIE.

  • Now the mission is to find the whole thing - A brilliant film and I can´t help but think Charles Laughton must have been Albert Finneys inspiration to start acting. (Finney is from Salford and if I´m not mistaken this film is supposed to be in Salford.)

  • We did this in GCSE English way back in the 80s..i have loved it ever since...John Mills was a legend,

  • Yes , I would kiss her

  • I recently rented this from net flix. It was wonderfully funny. I loved it.

  • Hobsons Choice is a David Lean Classic. It is my favourite film....My Dad introduced me to this film many years ago. Dad is no longer here...but the film is and it reminds me of me and Dad every time I put it on!

  • I love this movie so much ! God Bless Paul x

  • Such a great movie."Beware The Wrath To Come" lol!

  • This film is the best example of what love should be; helping each other to be the best of ourselves. It illustrates that the finest love is forged through adversity & hardship, where each person loves & supports the other against seemingly insurmountable odds. Beautiful film.

  • Some wonderful footage of Salford Crescent and the Old River Irwell at the beginning....thanks for posting this!!

  • classic in every sence

  • nice one smoojah,so glad this great film is on youtube

  • Thanks for everyone's good comments, glad you enjoy the clips.

  • @smoojah Thank you for putting this here and infroming a wider audience of its existence. I think this is the greatest movie ever made: Wittily scripted, perfectly paced (by a pre-Hollywood David Lean) with perfect performances all round. It also has that certain quality that is sadly lacking in most modern movies: CHARM.

  • Loved this film, will keep it on top 10 films forever...

  • My all-time favourite film. Willie Mossop's transformation from down-trodden boothand to respcted businessman is a joy, due entirely to the legendary John Mills' acting skills.

  • Absolutely brilliant, thankyou for sharing it with us, I have it on video-John Mills was such a sweetheart in this wonderful British film,it is a shame he is no longer here. I hope that you show more clips, we don't see movies of this calibre anymore.

  • I googled John Mills on the internet, and I had found alot of information on john mills. Is He still alive?
