i love how all these bedroom producers have the nuts to criticize an engineer who mixed down an album that went 10X platinum, and worked with the greatest rapper to ever live. I think it is amazing that we even get to see him doing the mix, and seeing what he is doing in protools...
he could be running a limiter which as you'd know is part of the mastering process with stem files. Sometimes as well if i get a bad bounced beat its nearly clipping when its on set on pre-fader so if thats the case i dont drop the faders i just process the files again with less gain.
Are u on twitter??? alot of engineers can learn from u...most of dem r killin da art of mixing as an Audio Engineer/Producer I still have alot 2 learn...Thank you for sharing this video...If ur on twitter send me ur link...
it looks like no one likes this guy explaining about his mixing, but he is alright with me.i record on pro tools im in no way a recording engineer but what he is doing makes sense. when i first started making beats i didn't know shit about mixing but i know where i wanted to take the beat.this guy is showing that just look at what he is doing. if your familiar with tracking out beats on protools and recording vocals then you know what he is doing, but if you are how i was 5yrs ago then yes he sux!
that goes to show that you can be good as fuck at certain things but suck dick at explaining it like this stupid fuckin stoner. Sounds like my dog taking a shit in the back yard while explaining protools in dog language niga.
half the video is the guy mumbling as he messes with the track. not very educational at all. seems like he knows more about working with rappers than actual mixing.
its pretty funy if you think about it...rappers talking about how hard they are, but yet the title of the genre is called Hip- hop lol thing of both words indivually..
i dont understood how to mix background triple vocals like pac had... help ? shit gets harmonized sound like those lame digital plugins i want all blended in first line everything big
practice.. Most of the "magic" is from the artist itself. not plugins... even the way you face the mic... like for adlibs i tell peoeple to stand away from the mic and yell a little bit.
There is nothing lame about digital plug-ins. They are very powerful. They do not cost thousands of dollars for nothing. They have very complex algorithms programed in to them. If you are a good engineer you would know how to make it sound AMAZING and most good engineers would agree. However, most engineers would rather hardware mainly because of the convenience of quickly grabbing knobs and faders, plus hardware does add losts of character depending on what you use. Butthenagainsodoes digital
I'm not hater and i I never said anything bad about plugins I was referring to vst harmonizer that really sucks compared to Eventide hardware :) Digital plugins can sound harsh cold and small compared to analog. :(
Again, If you are an inexperienced and not creative, using plugins could make a big mess out of the mix. These algorithms used to build plugins are so advanced. Educate yourself about it. Even more important, use your ears and make a comparison. i believe you come to your conclusion because you listen to others.
I use a combo of both. Once you gain more experience you might come to the same conclusion.

@XTREEMMAK Keep in mind PT's meters jump in "red" early as a safety. Use your ears. No distortion, but meters are red? THEN IT'S OK!
