CPU played Meele just as Ken, but this is a diferent game you must learn all tricks again, exept the basic stuff that all smash series have.

I played Brawl for 6 months, maybe 7, with my buddy. we dominated the gameladder for doubles, me as marth, him as ike - or me as falco, him as wolf, - OR me as toonlink, him as sheik. but because of the poor playability, and what us competitive smashers enjoy, this game was a big flop. maybe not to the age community inbetween the ages of like 10~16, but still.
@alanoasiss also, yes, tripping. big pain in the ass. it ruins everything. the difference between cpu playing melee and ken playing melee is that ken is king, whereas cpu is just a lowly servant to his world.
but yes, in brawl, everyone's like a feather, everyone's gimped [almost]. I thought Sonic was a fun addition to Brawl, I won't lie. Apart from having billions more characters and stages from melee, and double teaming HRC, brawl has nothing over melee. I tried brawl+, not the same.

Because Evo believes that most items do not give enough of an advantage to warrant removing them.
It's like Street Fighter, Evo's main game, when you knock the opponent onto the ground, you're in a state that they can't do anything, and you can, so, if you jump in and hit them as soon as they go into standing frames, they can't do anything about it except block.
In this situation, the counter to items is to not get hit by them, so they don't need to be removed.

@brandonkazooie DI means Directional Influence which is used to change your characters trajectory and can help you survive up to percentages as high as 200% you will often see Snakes surviving to over 200% at proffesional play however marth surviving to 220% is quite remarkable as he is a light character with terrible recovery please remember DI varies from character to character
Actually, by this tournament items were already gone. In fact, I don't think item tourneys lasted 2 months after the game came out. EVO just wanted to play this way (idiots). Although you are right that Melee did play with items for a few years before turning them off.

Wow... Why do so many people think the only way to play Smash competitively is without the use of items? The whole point of Smash is to use every obstacle (items included) in the game to your advantage.

Because they completely unbalance the game, in fact if ken wasn't the best ssb player ever there's no way in hell he would make it to the final playing marth. And marth has a mid tier smash ball attack, the smash ball being in the game makes half the chars not even worth playing.
How do you know he would not make it to the finals as Marth? This isn't some regular 2D fighting game. This is a platforming party/fighting game with free and open environments for many opportunities to outsmart your opponent. Even on Final Destination.

I disagree, Marth in the longshot has an incredibly low damage hence why Marth took ages to kill Robs first stock, ROB however is amazing broken. his frighting style and up+B is stupidly overpowered, and his Down dodge is longer than any other character in Brawl, in EVO2009 Ken lost to a 14 year old ROB.
Can you even watch the match? Items only made it easier for CPU. Ken was reading CPU like a book for the first 2 stocks and then for the rest of the match had to dodge final smashes all the time... it doesn't help that Marth's final smash is so easy to dodge, either.

It's like Melee's tourney roots. Until they decided that items were too random and can be situationally broken, item tourneys were widely accepted.

Actually, by this tournament items were already gone. In fact, I don't think item tourneys lasted 2 months after the game came out. EVO just wanted to play this way (idiots). Although you are right that Melee did play with items for a few years before turning them off.

Wow... Why do so many people think the only way to play Smash competitively is without the use of items? The whole point of Smash is to use every obstacle (items included) in the game to your advantage.
Now, I'm not flaming any of you people who think items cannot be competitive. I don't understand why some of you go flipping crazy and critical just because one tournament decides to do something different compared to other tournaments.

Because they completely unbalance the game, in fact if ken wasn't the best ssb player ever there's no way in hell he would make it to the final playing marth. And marth has a mid tier smash ball attack, the smash ball being in the game makes half the chars not even worth playing.

How do you know he would not make it to the finals as Marth? This isn't some regular 2D fighting game. This is a platforming party/fighting game with free and open environments for many opportunities to outsmart your opponent. Even on Final Destination.
And, the smash ball makes half the characters not worth playing? I don't understand that. Sounds to me like the game itself isn't worth playing.

hey but what do know alot more than ssbb is tf2. LoL team fortess 2 competitive play is much like brawl competitive play. with the same type of wording u have to know before u play competitive un understandable like words like di and snake dash to krits in 4 seconds to spyro to haduken. But i play both casually.... (cant defeat cpu though)

Hm Marth is horribly overused. Ken shows shows he can use him, but i see too many people who use Marth and think they are automatically good. Good fight for them though.

I disagree, Marth in the longshot has an incredibly low damage hence why Marth took ages to kill Robs first stock, ROB however is amazing broken. his frighting style and up+B is stupidly overpowered, and his Down dodge is longer than any other character in Brawl, in EVO2009 Ken lost to a 14 year old ROB.

Can you even watch the match? Items only made it easier for CPU. Ken was reading CPU like a book for the first 2 stocks and then for the rest of the match had to dodge final smashes all the time... it doesn't help that Marth's final smash is so easy to dodge, either.
