There are actually quite a number of younger players on the list - it's just the Cats have hardly used them at all. Expect to hear more about Duncan, Hunt, Laidler, Menzel etc in the next couple of years.
@darijoe Believe me... as an Eagles supporter in 2007 who couldn't quite get there... I thought oh well we will be ok in 2008... we have young kids like Hurn and Waters and Butler coming through. Then you lose a gun player (Judd/Ablett) and others start retiring and you realise how brittle it is... and those young kids don't quite make up for the champions.
When the end happens it happens very quickly and can take years to come back up. I saw the end for Geelong in the game against Freo.
@frankmat No doubt that there is a strong possibility that it will happen to Geelong like it did to your beloved Eagles, but it hasn't happened yet. How it will pan out will be decided upon the direction of the coaches and determination of the players. Here's hoping...

@mickowacko9 Only took West Coast 4 years to win it's first flag, Freo have had, what? 16 Years? We had 2 and 3 premierships by that point. It's like Freo and it's fans alike are only built to counter the Eagles without any eyes on the real prize. The teams go up and down so quick, in 2005 Collingwood finished fifteenth, 5 years later they're premiers, so ten years is a little pessimistic.

That was an average, which was given most likely after their 2006 appearance (and win, mind you). That is, it was 'buffered' by recent success. Of course it's going to go down as time goes on - that's only logical. The fact still remains that West Coast has done remarkably well since its inception into the competition, winning far greater than the average (1 premiership in 16 years). This is now Freo's *17th* year in the competition.

He started coaching the Eagles when they were towards the bottom and within a few season took them to glory and since he's shown that ability he deserves a go with this young team. When it comes to Bomber one of the reason he lied and walk out of Geelong could be because people within might of blamed him for Ablett's departure in a way since we now know how bad their relationship was.

@frankmat More of those days may well be coming back, but we won't be 100% sure if the actual dynasty is over until the end of next season. What exactly is the measure of a "dynasty"? It's an individual interpretation I guess, but I think it's a bit stiff to call it over because they lost a PF.
There are actually quite a number of younger players on the list - it's just the Cats have hardly used them at all. Expect to hear more about Duncan, Hunt, Laidler, Menzel etc in the next couple of years.

@darijoe Believe me... as an Eagles supporter in 2007 who couldn't quite get there... I thought oh well we will be ok in 2008... we have young kids like Hurn and Waters and Butler coming through. Then you lose a gun player (Judd/Ablett) and others start retiring and you realise how brittle it is... and those young kids don't quite make up for the champions.
When the end happens it happens very quickly and can take years to come back up. I saw the end for Geelong in the game against Freo.

The dynasty is continuing and many of the younger players in the team have certainly stepped up when required. Do you think you made the call too early? Now they have just lost 17 of their last 120 matches and have 3 premierships and I don't think anybody will strongly argue against the "dynasty" tag.
P.S. I am fearing the Eagles next year... :O

as a hawks supporter, i have to say these are absolutely brilliant comebacks, easily on par with the great essendon comebacks in the early 2000's, such as essendon-north melbourne.
