Ni4Ders. Keep up the great effort. Eventually folks will wake up to the unresponsive governance system we have an decide to vote for their own self interest. This is how Democracy actually works for all instead of having a few always vote for their own self interest.
I reckon in hard times people are going to have difficulty in giving and this is in one of big governments armoury, i reckon when push comes to shove only revolution does the trick but i hope things goes well on this campaign Mr Gravel
It's great to hear from you again Sen. Gravel. Thanks for your tireless promotion of NI4D. Hope we can raise awareness and bring in a decent money bomb on the 10th!
I'm a little strap for cash right now since we're reaching the height of the Bush/Obama depression. Nonetheless, I think I will be able to send you a $20 donation. Let me know if you need help moving this documentary to the masses when it is finished and I'll clue all of my subscribers in on it.

O, Gravel! I like you, I really do--but promoting "direct democracy" is such a terrible terrible idea. I'm sure you have good intentions. It has been said that direct democracy "is mob rule dressed up in a sports coat"--and it's true. A people needs to be FREE from government intrusion--free from the military state. No one is safe if 51% can vote to take away your liberty.
Agreed!!!! We need to have a "hybrid" of direct democracy and representative democracy to keep each other in check. IMO this is the best model so far.
So, do you prefer when the tiniest minority -Congress- takes away your liberty, as theyr'e doing with the "health insurance" mandate?? (Buy insurance or go to jail.)The point is that the People and the Congress can check and balance each other -as in Switzerland with the People and the Parliament. Here Congress has absolute power -and abuses it.
All governments "intrude" -ever since "thou shalt not kill." Since Congress has helped ruin the economy, now for the first time the military is meeting recruitment goals -and their rule is "kill!" The question is: do the majority like the "intrusion"?
RadioFriendly you are right..it's the 51% majority that will rule the other 49%. However a true democracy would be better than what we have now..but we still should strive for a Republic

Democracy is fine, as long as individual rights are recognised. A vote by the majority deciding how money should be spent locally, i.e. should the money go to fixing roads or towards building a new football stadium, is rational. However a majority vote, deciding that an individuals property may be seized to pay for it, is totally unethical. Our species is, sadly, still primitive. Eventually, the fallacy of socialism will be understood and hopefully rejected.
In Texas we just voted on a ballot proposition to protect people from having their property seized for nonpublic purposes. That is, the majority protected the minority. Socialism or capitalism is not the issue. Self-direction is the issue; self-governance. The moral compass is rooted in the hearts and minds of a nation's populace, not imposed on them from above.
Gravel won't run in 2012, and I doubt Nader will too.
However...Nader *may* be running for Dodd's seat in the next mid term election, which would be fantastic. Dodd's a bastard that's been in the senate way too long, and is one of the worst corporatist pols we have. I think if Nader pooled his national resources together, he *may* be able to unseat Dodd, maybe...

@soundblaster1999 Please Please do no put Paul in the same place as Gravel.
Gravel is AWESOME..... The only other person close to Gravel is Nader!
Paul does not stand for the same things as Paul. sorry its the truth. Paul has a "couple" things, but Paul overall is nothing compared to Gravel.

It's a 4th leg of government. It's another check and balance to our already existing government. It's not mob rule.

Good point, a fine example of democracy recognising individual rights.

Mr Gravel, why dont you ask for Ron Paul's support. You may disagree on some things, but when it comes to freedom and liberty, you both stand strong.
