  • The DC-9 was a reliable old warhorse of a plane. The DC-10, however, had a record of safety problems. I think it's time for Delta to retire those 40-year-old planes. I prefer Continental with its all-Boeing fleet and United with its mostly Boeing fleet to American or Delta.

  • what year was this?

  • holy crap!! I saw this EXACT airplane several weeks ago at DTW while on another DC-9 with Delta. That's amazing!

  • Excellent video. I will be taking my first DC9-50 flight this weekend on DL and can't wait. The aircraft will have been a sistership to the one shown in the video. North Central > Republic > Northwest > Delta. Long live the DC-9!

  • I remember taking a few flights on the DC-9 back in the 1980s. That was the good ol' days of flying!!

  • There is no other plane as graceful as the Douglas Dc-9. What is the music?

  • Cool! Delta still has this plane! You can still fly it!!!

  • Awesome video.

  • wow in May 0f 2010 i flew on this very plane going from ATL-DAY in Delta colors

  • you should have left the engine noise in there, especially when its taking off.

  • @OWHSsoccer07 The film had no sound track, sorry

  • ilk uçuşumu yaptığım uçak.. efsane..!

  • @halukaslan I did my flight .. legend of the first aircraft

  • This is what we call a real man's airplane in a real man's livery. No splotches with curvy, sweeping lines on white. Metal, stripes, and more metal.

All we have in Minnesota is Delta now.

  • That Plane or her sister was the first Jet service to the airport in my small city, TVC. It may be small, a bit cramped, and a bit rough, but it was light-years ahead of the old twin engine beasts they were flying. I flew on her in 1980 from Detroit to Traverse City in an ice storm. we were 100 feet about he runway when a gust of wind pushed us off course. It was a rush to feel those engines kick in full throttle and take us around.

  • Awesome to see the North Central name again. Thanks for posting.

  • yep, just looked her tail # up on net. She's still flying and painted Delta these days! 36 year old aircraft. DC-9 is an amazing aircraft!!!

  • Not sure why I just really like the look of the DC9.

  • Thats really cool because I recently flew on this airplane from MSP to DFW on Delta airlines! Thankyou for posting this and thanks to Northwest airlines for keeping the DC-9s in service for such a long time!

  • This Plane N760NC is STILL flying with Delta today and will be around a while longer!

  • N760NC is found in Delta´s colours on airliners net

  • Nice promo piece. The DC-9 was never one of my favorites; too rough for a regular passenger liner, I thought. Kinda like using a sports car to ferry people between cities. Heh. I wonder what Mr. Middle Manager would think of riding in my 2002 Camaro SS between Chi-town and Milwaukee?

I watched this piece on 18 Feb 10. What was the piano music used for the sound track? It was very nice and complemented the imagery quite well.

  • I had a sound track from REM,but they flaged me for copyrights,so the music now is from Youtubes audio swap for free. Thanks for the interest

  • @DC9RULES DC, the music is fine. I find that rock songs often just intrude on a lot of YouTube videos and I will mute them. So, YouTube has it's own music library you can work with?

  • My brother and i took a promo flight on a north central dc-9 in the 70's for $10 out of central wis{mosinee} airport what a great time they had the cockpit door open what a thrill for a 12 yr old!

  • Man that plane might have Delta colors now. I flew on a DC9-30 MSP-ORD a week ago. Looked like a brand new plane inside... much nicer than some of the 320s i've been in.

  • Yep it sure is in Delta colors now!

  • Yea and I just worked this aircraft last week, it was an upgrade from the usual DC9-30...it also has the new Delta interior.

  • first plane my grandpa ever flew on was a dc-9

  • He must be a young grandpa since they first flew in 1965!!!!

  • @jimdep333 oh sorry I ment the dc-3

  • Es y será siempre un excelente avión.

  • It is and always will be an excellent aircraft.....Thanks

  • McD aircraft = ownage

  • I flew this plane DTW-DCA three weeks ago, beautiful plane, beautiful paint, I think I've come to love the -50 more than any plane I've flown.

  • love the DC-9 great vid 5/5

  • i agree with this guy's channel name. my fav aircraft!!!

  • me too!!

  • get rid of that music and put on the rea saund !!!!!!

WE WANT TO HEAR THE PLANES ENGINE SAUND NOT MUSIC !!!!

  • I will buy this plane in FS9. Payware, i like the DC-9.

  • Their built like a tank!!!!

  • I know! Dc-9s are very strong commercial airplanes

  • I still like flying American and Delta MD-80's which are the next generation DC-9. They are getting phased out more and more now for more fuel efficient aircraft. The MD-80's days are numbered.

As far as dependability some of Northwest's (now Delta) DC-9's are STILL flying after 35+ years.

  • Well some of northwest's DC-9s were sold to northwest from other airlines that didn't want the DC-9. Don't ask me why, the DC-9 was a good airplane

  • Actually Northwest airlines acquired the 9's when they bought Republic Airlines (a merger between Northwest Central and Southern Airways).

  • The DC-9-50 was an under powered DOG compared with the -10 or 30.

    SW

  • it had the same engines but weighed more than 10,000 lbs more

  • Yup. The DC-9-50 was underpowered.

  • I remember flying on the North Central Series 50s when they were introduced and really liked them.

I am still sad that North Central is no longer around.

  • wow, these planes have been in service since before my parents were born. and they're still flying strong today.

  • what´s the title of this song?????

  • Used to work that plane all the time in TVC. So much for the good ole days.....

  • even with delta it still caries the original north central reg. long live N760NC! i think i flew on this plane from tpa to dtw :]

  • EXACTLY!!! poor herman the duck :'[

  • Wow! I've been on this plane

  • My mistake, it's Herman the duck!

  • Wasn't the goose named Herman?

  • Yes this plane is still flying under Delta colors now, along with others that went into service after this one. I have seen this plane many times since brand new, was strange to see it painted in the 6th color scheme. Flight crews would not believe me that I could have seen this plane since it was new. I just ended a 40 year career working these planes.

  • This airplane is still flying today, in fact it was just recently painted from NWA colors to Delta.

  • Sorry But I had to,a copyright owner complained & the Video was stopped untill the Audio was changed,But I still have the orginal.

  • Bring back the Blue Goose and get rid of the red rudder.

  • Oh that was awesome!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Thats one slick plane, I love the Douglas DC-9

  • The old North Central "Mallard Duck" logo is a classic. I believe the airline nicknamed the duck "Herman."

  • Beautiful Douglas lines.

  • worked her many times....thanks for the memories.

  • NWA customers: enjoy the DC-9 while you can! Most of NWA's "nines" are over 40 years old, and still do a stellar job. Unfortunately, the cost of fuel is killing them. Savor the "nine" and the JT-8D while you can!

  • Gotta live the niner.. Beautiful airplane. I found the music interesting aswell, what is it?

  • cool

  • Good choice of soundtrack. Gotta love them R.E.M. boys. I'm probably the only airline pilot that knows this.

  • Wow, another pilot that knows R.E.M.! lol, and knows this song. I'm just not an "Airline" pilot...yet. lol

  • VERY cool!! Makes me miss add patterns!

  • Wow, I didn't know North Central flew series 50's!

  • WONDERFUL footage!!! Thanks again for all your postings...
