here's a few examples:
he opposed the american invasion of afganistan, but supported the soviet invasion of afganistan (which killed 2 million afgans).

Israel was created out of the aftermath of WWII and the UN passed Resolution 181 partinioning the land into half arab half jewish. The arabs rejected this and invaded the jewish parts. a 'stronghold'? Israel has no significant natural resources to hold onto. Nor does it seek to 'expand' beyond its borders with egypt/syria/jordan. Israel is America's ally and allies support each other. The yanks gave 20 billion in weapons deals to the saudis and 20 mil to the gypos also. All these states have a common interest to quell jihadism. If you look at every major power, they are securing oil, and the US is a huge engine to the global economy, and oil is a vital commodity.
