  • how did you do the bit with the fire

    stop animation?

  • @OhHiItsSam When she comes out the fireplace? Ok, I had a piece of string on the handle, I pulled the string to pull the handle up and open and then masked out the string. I had another piece of string on the dolls arm, I pulled it to pull her out and again masked the string and cut the 2 scenes together.

There was no stop motion in any scene.

If you have any more questions just fire away.

  • @freacls Clowns freak me right out!

  • Very very nice! Enjoyed seeing all the details and work you put into this. If you ever decide to sell that spooky doll let me know, I'd gladly buy it from you. :)

  • @MrZombieIsHungry Thanks man. The dolls are my brothers, he made them for halloween. I'll ask him if he'll sell. Did you see the doll he painted white with the blood trickling from the eye too? I nearly put that one into the final video aswell.

  • @Kie77Oh yes! the painted white one was very cool too, loved that :) I've always enjoyed unique dolls that stand out and collect some of these type of dolls. No pressure, I just thought I'd ask but if your brother would consider selling that would be great, if not no problem. Let him know that the doll would be taken great care of and not resold and so forth. Thanks!

  • UAAUAAAA, Hazme cosquillas que me lo paso chupi... with a knife!!!

  • Before I saw it, I was kinda guessing you used masking or greenscreening with a puppet...

And ur right, that thing is really creepy...

  • Amazing process. I was completely fascinated. Makes me wish I knew how to use Adobe effects.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

  • awesum thxs so much kie77

  • No problem. I hope you find it useful. If you make anything as a result of this then please let me know.

  • Fantastic. It makes it worthwhile to know that it's actually helping people out.

  • cheers for that informative vid.

  • No problem. I hope you find it useful.

  • This Tutorial Is Very Convinsing. Thank you for making it :)

  • My pleasure kunfukitten :)

  • What doll meuseum was it?

  • It was a Toy Museum in a town called "Stow on the Wold" in England. Well worth a visit.

  • ive got after effects but i CANNOT use it

it looks so tricky and i have no idea what to do at all

can u do any of that stuff on sony vegas pro 8/9?

  • Hi VegasHelper. Adobe After Effects is a little intimidating at first, there is a steep learning curve but it's worth the effort. There are plenty of AAE tutorial sites out there, videocopilot being the best.

I've never used Sony Vegas, but I'm certain these effects are possible with whatever masking tools you have in Vegas.

  • thanks so much!

and by the way congrats by winning the competition!

    Choose your laptop carefully! haha!

  • fantastic toturial. I found it very intresting.

  • My pleasure NintendoKing. I'll make more in the future if people find them of use.

  • that's amazing kieran, damn really really interesting tutorial but is very difficolt !!r u a programmer ?let me know

  • Elcondenegro, I'm not a programmer. I just taught myself how to do special fx by watching other tutorials on the internet. I'm pleased you found it interesting. I'll maybe make more tutorial type videos if people are finding them useful.

  • Very cool! Nice video! 5/5

  • Thanks Batboy, much appreciated.

  • That is so amazing!!!!!!!!!!! how you did this i have after effects all i can do is make blocks m ove around!!!

  • You have much to learn my young Padawan

  • nice one. i think you should make AE tutorial. i really like to learn from u bro :)

  • Thanks KarabauGila76. I'll be sure to make more tutorials in the future :)

  • This is fantastic mate, Im glad to see how this video was done. It was an amazing job, well done.

  • Cheers Barry, that's kind of you to say.

  • RotoMaster!!! :P

Rotoing is the exact reason I always tried to steer clear of lightsaber videos :D

Great behind the scenes stuff,..always good to see!

  • Lightsabers are paaaainful. That lightsaber video I did took days to do, it's a very dull process....but at the same time, it's lightsabers, which are cool.

I think there is a quicker method for lightsabers now on videocopilot, although I've not tried it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Iggy, it goes on a bit at 10mins...even then I had to chop a load out. Maybe I should do a making of this making of video....

  • Love it!. It would be ace to do a Cookery programme with you.

Good insight into your workflow its interesting to see how each person has there own technique.

Full on Bravo for the Kie!!! :D this is more than than the Youtube 5 star rating will allow.

  • Haha, a cookery programme? Pucka lad. We'd cook up a storm!

"Check this out you mothers"...still cracks me up.

  • Thanks Kyran. I always find it interesting to see how people make their films and do their FX so I wanted to share my experience too. I figured that if noone watched this then atleast I'll be able to look back on it in the future.

That scene took ages, I had so much in the background to hide I really didn't expect it to work. With better lighting I'd have maybe greenscreened that bit instead as it took forever - but I'm happy with that scene; even if it did only last about 3 seconds :)

  • Good tut dude. Nice break down. You outdid yourself on the movie.

(in case of a double comment, I think I didn't hit post on the last one)

    Cheerioooo

  • Cheers Onjo the coffeeman :) I gave that film everything I had.

  • Wow, that was interesting Kie77. You definitly put allot hard work in making the Living Doll video. Can't wait untill you make Living Doll 2 : ) or just your next scary video.

  • Hmmmm....Living Doll 2 is tempting. I mean I have a whole other doll I didn't use.

    Let's wait and see :)

  • that was really well done awesome job

  • Thanks Comando

  • Great my friend! Very dedicated.. I know how hard that rotoscoping can be. My thumbs aches when I do it for a long time for some reason.. guess its the way I hold the mouse.

  • Rotoscoping is a pain. It's best just to get the music blaring and crack on. One thing I did learn....beer and rotoscoping don't go together! I did a bit of the rotoscoping with a beer and had to redo it the next morning. Ooooops.

  • Thanks for this mate I love to see how things are done .. and that doll of yours will give me nightmares tonight

  • Cheers Andy. I'm looking forward to sending those dolls back. Maybe I'll try and send them back and they'll just keep coming back to forever haunt me?

  • It was funny: I was thinking as I watched it that it reminded me of something "Twilight Zone-esque".

This tutorial creates a whole new facet of appreciation for all the work you went through to create a WINNING VIDEO! Yay! Thanks for the behind-the-scenes tour :)

  • Thanks Mel. People naturally assume I got the idea from Chucky or Childs Play, but I've not actually seen those films. I was actually thinking of the Twilight Zone and also that episode of The Simpsons with the killer toy Krusty the Clown, did you ever see that one?

    Clowns scare me too :)

  • I haven't really followed the Simpsons, but when I think of scary clowns, I think of the clown toy in the movie POLTERGEIST. Yeesh, that still gives me the creeps.

  • I love playing with After Effects ;)

  • So I see. You have a new subscriber :)

  • ohhh, thanks alot!

  • Really great job! congratulations Kie!!

  • Muchas gracias :)

  • Man, watching this I can see you really know what you're doing with special FX and making films. Your videos are just so good, you should do this for a living if you don't already!

  • Ha, thanks Speedy. I've still got loads to learn, I mean, I got lucky with the masking at the end there. I'm still very much a novice with the special FX, you should go check out the likes of Iggy35, DavideoDesign and AAEuser - those guys should be in film. Actually, AAEuser is now :)

  • thanks for the tutorial, it was really interesting, thanks keiran :)

  • No problem ReeyMysterio. Thanks for the comment.

  • Awesome tutorial and a great video. Nice video as usual keiran ;)

  • Cheers guys. I hope someone finds it useful

  • nice

  • Thanks Kasper

  • awesome man u rock

  • Cheers Tommy. Rock on Tommy :)
