When I was but a lad I had the 45 of this. It was edited for radio play with all but the last 15 seconds of the guitar solo and parts of the intro and outro cut. Luckily they didn't cut the last 30 seconds.

Is it just me or are all the tracks on Made in Japan a total one off for Ritchie? I've never heard him play with such a combination of energy and maximum clean precision. I've heard other recordings on the same tour that come close, some perhaps with a tad more energy (maybe making a better gig if you were there) but not getting that absolute magic brilliance that makes Made in Japan so totally listenable 40 years on.

I saw them in Tampa at Curtis Hixon Convention Center at the start of this tour in 1972. Richie Blackmore's guitar playing was breathtaking precise and clear. The whole band just left the audience dumbfounded. After a song the audience would take a second to respond as if an alien ship had landed and the applause was almost as loud as the band. This has been my theme song ever since. I want this played at my grave site. there will never ever be another band that rocks like this one!!!!!!

@tatethompson1234 Actually the term 'heavy metal' wasn't used until the 80's. I grew up with this stuff in the 70's and never did anyone ever call it heavy metal. It was simply 'rock', 'rock 'n roll', or 'hard rock'. (...despite what wikipedia says about heavy metal - it's wrong). Day in/Day out I listened to Detroit's 101 WRIF 'The Home of Rock 'n Roll'; that was its slogan (rock on FM radio was huge in the 70's) .....sigh, the memories!

@willjooo Steppenwolf was the first band to use the term "Heavy Metal" in the 60's. Alice Cooper was also called " Heavy Metal" in the 70s, he was talking about it on his radio show late nights with Alice Cooper Rock 102.1, every Saturday night. It all depends where your from. I've noticed that, it's the same with Punk, no one in the south knew what Punk was till the mid 80's or so, The Ramones toured all over the south in the 70's, no one knew what to call it, Same with Sex Pistols lol

@tatethompson1234 The Steppenwolf use of 'Heavy Metal (Thunder)' was in their song 'Born to be Wild', it didn't really refer to a musical style. I wasn't aware of the Alice Cooper use of 'Heavy Metal'. In the 70's, the music of bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Kinks, etc... were referred to as Rock or Hard Rock, not Heavy Metal. I guess Detroit found out about Punk pretty early on because I knew about it in the late 70's.
