Most definietely the best version. Way better than the studio which sounds kind of flat and lifeless. This one has punch, zest.... Great! Can't get enough of it. Never tired of it.
The 'heavy' sound of the opening riff is created by the combination of the organ and guitar. Both instruments are put through Marshall amplifiers. For the organ this creates a harsh sound which perfectly combines with the amplified guitar.
If you want to be a rock star: Just do this. It's like a diagram in a textbook. It's caption would read "kick-ass rock."
When I was but a lad I had the 45 of this. It was edited for radio play with all but the last 15 seconds of the guitar solo and parts of the intro and outro cut. Luckily they didn't cut the last 30 seconds.
unforgettable,no group can rapresent the rock more than them....when I listen to still have the same emotion of when I listened the first time....so...let them roll all the life...;)
This is actually the original I had this album and KLOS used to play it... so far bro.....your the only one who has it, the other cd versions do not sound like the original
This is Deep Purple at their VERY best, they never sounded better that during those 3 concerts. This is rock history. Every member og the Band is at a peak but more significant, they play TOGETHER, support each other, play as one person. The guitar solo is simply a classic.
always felt sorry for Roger Glover - his performance in this song is just fantastic! Poor man has always been sort of a "second grade" in the DP. But then again - what else can you attain when you play together with Lord, Paice and maitre Blackmore himself?
Is it just me or are all the tracks on Made in Japan a total one off for Ritchie? I've never heard him play with such a combination of energy and maximum clean precision. I've heard other recordings on the same tour that come close, some perhaps with a tad more energy (maybe making a better gig if you were there) but not getting that absolute magic brilliance that makes Made in Japan so totally listenable 40 years on.
@malarbusto: Absolutely right. I think the whole band had a string of technically precise and inspired performances on this tour. "Made in Japan" is surely one of the top 5 live rock albums ever produced.
I've been searching for this version for literally years and couldn't fathom why this most brilliant of all versions wasn't to be found on YouTube. Thank goodness you've finally uploaded it. Thank you!
I saw them in Tampa at Curtis Hixon Convention Center at the start of this tour in 1972. Richie Blackmore's guitar playing was breathtaking precise and clear. The whole band just left the audience dumbfounded. After a song the audience would take a second to respond as if an alien ship had landed and the applause was almost as loud as the band. This has been my theme song ever since. I want this played at my grave site. there will never ever be another band that rocks like this one!!!!!!
@fp1000100 I have a deep respect for a man who believes as I, that Made in Japan by Mark ll lineup back in the early 70's is the Best Live Album there is and probably ever will be. Deep Purple has always been my favourite band even to this very day.
It's been said "Rapture of the Deep was recorded in one take". Deep Purple is the greatest Rock band there is. The proof is right here.
DP mark 2 created their own genre, not style but an entire genre of which only they played. It could be called: HARD rhythm and symphonidelic jazz ROCK. when these five were together it was pure magic. all the songs were group compositions. they each were the best at what they did .
How good is this ???? The first band to blow me away in my early teenage years. I still remember exactly where I was when I first heard Black Knight. Puberty and Deep Purple OH YEAH !!!....
@Mrm0nG0 If you think this is the first heavy metal song you should do a little more music history research. You have Black Sabbath witch was probley and till this day the heaviest darkest song written. Even before them you have bands like Blue Cheer and hell even before them The Kinks basicly started Heavy Metal,Punk,Hard rock ect. Im am not arguing bro, just mentioning it to you lol
@tatethompson1234 Actually the term 'heavy metal' wasn't used until the 80's. I grew up with this stuff in the 70's and never did anyone ever call it heavy metal. It was simply 'rock', 'rock 'n roll', or 'hard rock'. (...despite what wikipedia says about heavy metal - it's wrong). Day in/Day out I listened to Detroit's 101 WRIF 'The Home of Rock 'n Roll'; that was its slogan (rock on FM radio was huge in the 70's) .....sigh, the memories!
@willjooo Steppenwolf was the first band to use the term "Heavy Metal" in the 60's. Alice Cooper was also called " Heavy Metal" in the 70s, he was talking about it on his radio show late nights with Alice Cooper Rock 102.1, every Saturday night. It all depends where your from. I've noticed that, it's the same with Punk, no one in the south knew what Punk was till the mid 80's or so, The Ramones toured all over the south in the 70's, no one knew what to call it, Same with Sex Pistols lol
@tatethompson1234 The Steppenwolf use of 'Heavy Metal (Thunder)' was in their song 'Born to be Wild', it didn't really refer to a musical style. I wasn't aware of the Alice Cooper use of 'Heavy Metal'. In the 70's, the music of bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Kinks, etc... were referred to as Rock or Hard Rock, not Heavy Metal. I guess Detroit found out about Punk pretty early on because I knew about it in the late 70's.
@willjooo Late 70's? Punk was around way earlier than the late 70's, you had bands like The MC5, Stooges, New York Dolls, Ramones, ect all before 1975.
@Mrm0nG0 He, you don't necessarily have lo love rock music OR opera, I am a big Deep Purple fan, and I love opera! I love every kind of music as long as you hear that the performers take it serious and make their music not only because of the money ...
@petrus805 I absolutely agree! Made In Japan really is a milestone in the history of rock music. What is your opinion about Made In Europe? I can't decide wether I like it or not ...
Late arrival on the Deep Purple scene, this is the one that did it for me. It's also on the 'Live and Heavy' compilation album, this track is now worn out !!!!
