  • great work!!

  • good stuff

  • Now i just wanna rally all my photography friends together get a camper and go shooting :D

  • Nice

  • awsome video!!!

  • awsome

  • Whats the name of the first song in the video?please anyone!

  • That was one crazy - fun video, well done and greetings from greece.

  • I love it

  • I wish I had a buncj of photography friends.

  • lol I live near Dinant

  • i lolz at 2:23

  • love it!!

  • super pictures - great clip...

  • I like the color tone. How did you do that in Photoshop?

  • Good inspiration...

  • Gosto muito do Video, ache ele bem criativo

  • I love the video, you can see that you had a lot of fun.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

  • this is one one the most aweesome youtube videos. love itt.

  • @rmstudio from the way you're talking and how far you're taking this, I can hardly tell you're older than 10. I'm done arguing with somebody as useless with you. Are you as successful as Bert Stephani? Nope. Just looks like jealousy to me. Also, I'm 16, so of course I'm an amateur, because photography is no more than a hobby to me.

  • Heck if you dont believe me in what I am saying or think I am a commercial shooter and that I dont know what I am talking about look at another pro shooter that does actual commercial work like I do here on youtube. Someone you could really learn something that is done the correct way. Not the hit and miss or "Horrifying" monster lighting effect @2:45 here is a example of a controlled consistent use of lighting is watch the video to the right by Joe McNally girl with elephant Nikon D3 promo

  • @rmstudio Well I just took a look at their web sites, I like some of their photos. Now here in this video it clearly say 24 hours mission, so I guess they just drove to location after location to get as much as they could in 24 hours while having fun, its clearly not a contract that require perfection nor an educational video about bouncing light. You cant compare that to Joe McNally work. It would be like comparing him to Annie Leibovitz. Oh if you have a web site it me up. Have nice day.

  • @Tortuga699 That was my only point that this is not a "Tutorial" nor should it be thought of as one and should be mentioned that this is really ultimately a "Silly" party goofing off video almost like a swinging pots in pans and flipping batter in a bowl and not really even paying attention what ingredients are in the batter itself. As that should be stated to those watching clearly so they understand this and o not got out and "Buy" this gear with wrong expectations.

  • @rmstudio nope.. the only point you were making wasnt: this isn't a tutorial, it was: I', trying to bash you, because i think i am better...

dude... let's break it down to the basics: you don't seem to see photography as an art but rather as your job! at least that's what it seems like!

in the end it's all about what fits the viewers taste! it's not WRONG just because you don't like it! I'm not saying they used their equipment 100% correctly! i most definitely am not! but playing around and

  • @akroisel Uh you assumed I see photography as a job.... 2nd if I did its because actually it is my job full time.. but that is hear nor there because if even I did seeing it as a job does not diminish my perspective "ARTISICALLY" on the subject. But anyways. Nothing wrong of "ENTERTAINING" new photographers or those who do not know better but when they buy it as the way to actually "Accomplish" lighting or making them think the flash had anything to do with the exposure in the photo is wrong

  • trying new stuff is what keeps photography developing!

let me give you an example:

there are people who listen to pop music, others listen to rock and then there are those that listen to hip hop... i have no clue what you are listening to but let's say it's rock...

summing up all the comments you posted (and yes i did my homework i read them all) you are saying: Rock is the only real music, pop and hip hop are wrong because they are different!

just my two cents... photography is an art...

  • @akroisel I understand your comparison you are trying to "MAKE" but it does not apply here. Yes photography is a art.. "Duh" yes we know trying "NEW" Stuff is good. I never said those 2 things were wrong to do. But in this case trying something "NEW" is ok only if it "WORKS" or in this case "EVEN MAKES DIFFERENCE" in the exposure. Its much like a huge house fire and squirting it down with a "Squirt gun" yah it may be a "NEW IDEA" but its doing little to actually achieve a goal or results.

  • @Tortuga699 2nd part: And but the gear with the wrong expectations or worse thinking this is the "WAY" you use these tools because its clearly not the way. But then again hey 80% of most newbie photogs want a magic bullet or want to buy a gadget that will make them a good photographer and not actually learn how to do it.. They are to lazy to learn what lighting and photography is all really about.

  • @rmstudio Well photography is something personal from the inside, everyone as is own taste but I cant argue with the learning part, its the most important element. Anyway if people want to learn lightning they should google Strobist 101. Its a good place to start.

  • @Tortuga699 That was the only point I was trying to make.. Thank you for seeing that. As long as its clear to those "Impressionable" newbies out there that it is just a fancy free goof off type of thing and not a actual way to shoot and get "Consistant" controlled reliable results than there is no harm but that should be made clear in the description as many "Like Strobist" take a small thing and "Weave" it into a huge distortion so far from the truth is down right miles away from reality.

  • @Tortuga699 part2 On the Strobist thing thats a perfect example of "Stretching or Weaving something so far from the truth" all because Newbies take a simple seed of an idea and run with it out of control and turn it into something so far from the truth. I mean even the strobist guy is not telling people to go out and buy 4 or 5 400 plus dollar "UNDERPOWERED" hotshoe flashes run on batteries. Which is the worst idea and concept for power to Dollar ratio ever! LoL. Newbies 1 born every day LoL.

  • Last but not least the few images even show were so over photoshop to save the the image from its "Bad exposures" of that lighting you can so clearly see the "Burn" tool used to try to save the over exposed portions of the image cause of bad judgement of the photogs ability get it "Right" in camera just look @1:16 the image of the group right after that.. Anyone that wants to question if I know what I am speaking about I will gladly show you my work. message me & I will give you my link.

  • Also the other thing is that this is a utter "OVERKILL" or waste to use a "LARGE OVER SIZED HEAVY AND HARD TO HAND HOLD" reflector to bounce a flash with. Thats not what these things were built for.. Also do you see the "Monster" lighting effect these people are getting with the reflector. Trying to hand hold a reflector like that to bounce a flash is also very "Inconsistent" as the person that is holding it is moving it all over the place.. YOu have to hold a reflector dead on to get the light

  • The point I was making with all of this is that the guy in the video has no clue what he was doing with those reflectors and flashes and combining them.. He was just "Spraying and praying" with out not really knowing what he was doing and "WHY" he was placing the lights in one spot or the other or why he should place a "Reflector" here or not. He just spent some money at a "Rental" shop and went out to make some "Fun" look at me video without making a real "Learn" from video that was "ACCURATE"

  • Anybody know the last song name?

  • What kind of lite panel reflector was that?

  • @ 1:38 - 1:41 his jerk hand is going crazy!

  • What's wrong with RMStudio? Cool down dude, this video is amazing! Also, Bert and his friends make really helpful stuff. These guys know how to light, yea!

  • Amazing work!

On a side note, I don't understand what one of the posters here is saying. What is the right way of using a reflector? It's not like the photographers here in this vid are not coming out with AMAZING shots.

  • Great Stuff, i like this video. ;)

  • Just wondering what rmstudio's problem is.

There are prefectly legit uses of the Sunbounce shown here.

Please show us all your professional efforts and what YOU would term correct use or stop moaning.

  • O...so beautiful !!!!

    i LOVE THIs

  • yeahhh

  • Great shots! do you use high-speed sync in your shots?

  • love your work but would like to see how our pics look with reall models ;)

  • excelent,explicit

  • This is great my Man ! Thanks for share >>> Great work!

  • awesome and creative job!

  • Hi, Guys, were can I get the huge reflector you are using ? Please

  • very inspiring thanks..

  • 2:58 is that the Romanian flag?

  • yes

  • i think you guys did an amazing job... i wish i had the chance to do something like this to... if u ever come by Chicago drop a line... :)

  • nice... good job guys... u must have had a lot of fun too :)

  • Awesome & Inspiring!!!

  • California Sunbounce Rules...

  • you have a good work, you were looking at videos that me of these ideas to differentiate my work, I added to you here in youtube to follow its work from of Brazil. he was valid and he has a good weekend.

  • AWESOME Bert, what an inspiration you are to my strobe abilities... Love it..

  • Well done guys.. this is great work.. not to mention loads of fun..

    Awesome pics..

  • That's what it's about. Taking brillaint photos and having fun.

  • you are an EXCELLENT team. One can discern that you looove photography! I really thank you for sharing this video. Keep up the good work. Well done!!!

  • what reflectors are they using?

  • Love the video.. see you in London for the workshop Bert!

  • awesome

  • Loved to see how people adjust their lighting, you had some great results and some not so much. That is what makes photography so cool, you just never know when you capture "That" photo.

  • Freakin cool video Bert! Love the fact that someone is using Cactus triggers!

  • Amazing!!!!!

  • great videos, bert!

you know what i would like to see more of in photography videos in general: before and after post-production views of the pictures.

i think part of the reason david hobby's website is so valuable is he works for a newspaper, so his photos are straight out of camera, so you can see what they actually look like.

i love these videos, but if the goal is educating photographers i think showing a non-photoshopped version is very valuable.

  • great video , great pictures

  • dear sir and mam, and to all the pros and not-so-pro out there...

instead of arguing over this very nice and informative video, why not make your own foto video so that we can watch it and maybe, just maybe, we can learn from you too.

    sincerely yours,

    noob

  • great!

  • very great compliments

  • nice nice nice nice...

  • Guys, look at the info top-right: BELGIUM!

    Great video, Bert.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

  • last photo is a great photo

  • nice stuff

    was that the romanian flag?

    Romania ???? :D

  • Hey but if those so stubborn want nothing but keep there defense of "I like a video" over actually learning something the correct way by all means please take that thought and stay in your current level... Want to learn something then watch some correct guidance videos such at Art's or Mecey's videos for sunbounce those you will learn something. Not this guy "Playing" with his toys. If not see you at the unemployment line.

  • very nice :)

  • All of what I said below is actually for you newbies benefit. This is from a working pro that is giving it to you straight not because I am here trying to impress people or look cool. I am only telling you as when I was first learning 17 years ago I looked to the guys doing it for real for a living not my college friends not my uncles at a wedding but real working pros. I would have loved if someone would have saved me much wasted time by telling me who to watch and who to not to.

  • Ahnn... "The Owner of the Truth..."

2 points only: - These guys are "Real Working Pros"... We recognize some flaws in the video, but this is not meant as an instructional video rather than a couple of friends gathering together to LEARN and have FUN (which you do not seem, or do not want to understand) - So much time learning and (looking at your own videos) you did learn nothing. What a shame.

  • I have no problems with having fun do it all the time. Everyone seems to sway away from my point which is one and one thing only "Completely incorrect way to use this sunbounce gear" Not a different opinion of how to use it but completely off the mark in every way to use the sunbounce. If there was something to learn its only the lesson of not to do it this way. I am all for learning. Why do Newbies fight till the death all to save their ego only. Those who really want to learn "Listen"

  • (continued)

and before you tend to have another poor comment, I'm a Part Time Pro photographer and I still learn not just from videos but also from sharing with others Pros and (most likely difficult for you to understand) other fabulous serious amateurs.

Now stop the "Newbies benefit" crap talk.

Another GREAT Job BERT! Keep up with it.

  • DrDougRoss.. Sorry have to laugh here at your comment here.. "I am a part time pro" self titled I am sure. ah.. Part time does not make you a pro. but I will let you slide on that never the less. Your comment "I still learn not just from videos but also from sharing" Well DUH. I never said you can ot learn from ANY videos. I just said you couldnt learn anything the RIGHT way to use Sunbounce from this video" big difference. Try reading again. Newbies egos so hard thats why they stay amateurs.

  • @rmstudio You are in Comments of every video i watch, and ALWAYS with that same attitude, NOTHING is good enough for you, i wonder how you manage your personal life, i even took a look at your videos, and all i see is a peasant drooling in a Taxi cab in NYC like a-fat-first-timer-tourist-MORON! stop commenting, and "if you want to learn, LISTEN!" as you said earlier!

  • @TERRANCIO Funny that you find me so interesting that you "Followed" and "searched" for "all my comments. LoL.

My point was when I commented. Was that most of this stuff is "Way off" Misleading "amateurs" "Newbies" down a slippery path.. When they are trying to learn.. Yes there are good post and vids out there go look at other sunbounce vids such a Micheal Grecco and Gorman and the guy on the beach. Those are "Real" pros shooting with a method and purpose not "Look at me play with my toys"

  • @rmstudio @rmstudio I don't here these guys mention that this is they the key to great photography. What I see if five photographers experimenting with a reflector and a few flash guns, this is no way a tutorial. I am glad that photographers post the experiences. I wish youtube vids like this were around 20 years ago when I got started in photography, I would be a better photographer now!

  • @DGphotography123 Yes your right to a point but you dont get what I am saying "Most novices are going to watch this and think this is the way to USE reflectors" or that they even had a purpose or effect on the light. "Newbie photog goes out on a shoot holding reflectors comes back scratching his head wondering why the photos do not have that kind of light like in the video.." If the title of video said "TUTORIAL" or not its going to be "USED" like it is one... By amateurs. Which is my point.

  • @rmstudio no its not

  • great videooo! :)

  • Comment removed

  • RMStudio,

Have you never heard the phrase 'If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it!'

Using flash with reflectors in this way can 'warm up' the light source with the gold side and soften the light source with the white side instead of a harsh directional light.

Newbies watching this sort of vid CAN and WILL learn something.

Keep up the good work Bert ;o)

  • Have you ever heard the phrase "The blind Leading the Blind?" Wouldnt you like to learn something the Correct or at least the "Functional" way? If you guys want to learn the wrong way be my guest. I would think most people actually wanting to "LEARN" would want the truth..... But hey feel free to continue learning this way. We always get a good laugh at you guys at the trade shows when we run into individuals that take this path.

  • The Blind is the one who cannot see (or in this case hear...)

It seems you see yourself as a "polictically uncorrect american cowboy" in your site riding a "New" 2008 Dodge Nitro Truck... Radical? No, you seem to be just another PIA.

We lost enough time with your sarcasm already.

Now please go and leave the post for the 40 year old "newbies" plus the guys that really like to share learning.

Wish you, your deafness and your negativeness all the best...

    Cheers mate.

  • Like I said please continue what you have sold yourself as "Learning" lol.... Perhaps I may say this is the fact of truth you do learn something here in the vid and thats what "NOT" to do... But hey Please by all means my 40 year old newbie follow your blind path it only helps me with jobs so thank you!

  • @Watkiss79 Yah learn how to use a reflector the "Wrong way" or made to believe that a reflector will "Work on a over cast day or with a over powering strobe that cancels out any ambient light.. you could pull the reflector out of the shoot and not see 1 bit of difference if a over powering strobe is used. The reflected natural light is cancelled out by the strobe.. Duh.. All this is "Ohh look me play with all my toys even though I do not know how to apply them" Let me throw everything in.

  • @rmstudio Why the hell are you questioning a professional photographer? Are you one?

  • @usaswim323 Actually I am a professional photographer "FULL" time for the last 17 years.. Long before the company even existed... "Nothing againts sunbounce" Long before this newbie bought his first point & shoot. That means I do it as a living not as a hobby or weekend warrior.. @ "Insert foot in mouth" You really think i would be speaking like I am without knowing what I am talking about? This vid is nothing about "Real" lighting. The guy doesnt even know what he is doing with the reflectors

  • @rmstudio Can't you tell at all they were just joking around and having fun? Holy fuck man. And this photographer has a DVD specifically about using light in photos, are you going to question that too?

  • @usaswim323 "This photographer has a DVD specifically about using light in photos are you going to question that too?" Oh my god! LoL. Its so clear and obvious your a 1st time newbie to photography & a complete amateur & a extremely naive one at that. OMG I can not stop laughing now.. Seriously how naive are you? He has a DVD so there for its "Real" its "like if god wrote it himself" LMAO.. Any can produce a dvd does it mean its correct info? or has any merit to it? Man can I sell u a bridge?

  • @Watkiss79 Uh.... Using reflectors on a over cast sky day is "Pointless" outside let alone "Combining" the two together. When in the vid its perfectly clear to even decent amateur photog that the flash is the entire exposer of light to the image and the reflectors light is not even registering in the image as the flash is about 5 stops over the reflectors light.. Its like using a spray bottle of water when you have a fire hose of water washing down the walkway. The spray bottle is doing nothing

  • @Watkiss79 First get a clue about what your talking about before inserting your foot in your mouth and showing how new to photographic lighting you are and you lack of knowledge of the subject. Please read my below comments on what is wrong with this story and vid about how light works. I am not going to rewrite it here to tell how you silly your logic is.. I love it warm up one side of the subject "Since only 1 side is lit with the gold" and the other part of subject will be blue or cool? LoL

  • P.S actually thought this was a Sunbounce product vid. I realized its not but some photographer trying to show off all the cool toys his credit card bought him but the sad thing is those that really know anything about lighting just laughing at how the guy know next to nothing how to actually use the toys he bought. To funny.. I was wondering why sunbounce would have made a vid like this glad to see it was not them. Newbies dont follow this its a poor example how to use those reflectors.

  • Actually, we learn a LOT from these guys... and still they have fun.

And of course you've lost your time doing 4 unnecessary posts, but you will only get negative comments from your negative mind...

I believe your dog's video is so much better I recommend everyone to watch it:

    A Fav..

  • Please..... You can try to burying my comment with your "Negative Card" all you want but it still can not cover the "Stench" People just because you correct something or point out tthe truth does not make it "Negative" thats cop out. YOu may "Think" you learn a lot from these guys but actually you learned a whole lot of nothing. Go watch a David Mecey Sunbounce vid or the "Art Brewer" vid those are actual vids you can learn something about lighting not a "Fun I want to make a MTV vid"

  • Surely this is a wooooooooosh rmstudio?

Great work as per usual Bert.

  • I like to call a couple of serious issues here on this video especially for 1:17 There is major post production in the image so much that it is a far far cry to what the came out of the camera 2nd the most important you have a "Reflector" on the left side of the subject but yet the right side is shaded by the RV so what light source is actually reflecting here? none or very little then you added a "Porty" strobe light into the mix to make it a "Wow" factor for the newbies to lighting or make it

  • A lot of fluff in it. That porty looks to be the real source of the light source on the left side of subject. Espcially considering it was an overcast day. It was a mess of "Gadgets" to razzel the individuals that dont know better. Most of the light had very little to do wiht the reflectors which was the product portrayed. It was mostly Strobe lighting the images. Next time dont do this show how the reflector is used "David Macey" vids are a good example.

  • the video guy skills were much better than those of the photographers. I mean Honestly it was almost down right funny watching this video. Because of all the "False" or Down right phony lighting use of the reflectors. THis only hurts your credibility as a manufacture of lighting products. It may fool the newbies but the ones that know lighting are going to just roll there eyes and bust out laughing at this vid.

  • I want still

  • next time deinterlace :D but great video as always!

  • Awsome work guys.

    Luv it..

  • Fabulous video, informative and fun. Keep up the great work. Love bouncing myself!!

  • good work ! that looked like a lot of fun.
