  • not very often do you get to see the start of something amazing - well done to whoever restored this. i know its out of sync and it sounds poor, but just to see footage of this line up - live ... brill! keep em comin!

  • Quite appauling, but ELO were so experimental in their early days that it is totally forgivable. Thankfully they stuck with it to become one of the finest, and most underrated, bands of all time

  • what an awfull sound! how did you manage to ruin a good song??????????

  • What a fantastic performance - I was three at the time! : )

  • this sounds fuckin awful...what a disappointment

  • Wow...this is where it all began! Vintage ELO with 4 cello's .....amazing. Obviously their sound progressed into the most spectacular pop group of all time.....very historic to see where & how it all originated! Thanks Roy & Jeff for your vision.

  • Bev Bevan tells the story of how he, Roy and Jeff would get drunk in a local pub before the first ELO gigs, then have a curry to try and mop up the alcohol in the bodies before taking to the stage - the three of them couldn't face it!

  • LOL - Im not being disrespectful, as I am a HUGE ELO fan, but this really sounds like a bucket of poop up until about the 2:00 minute mark :)

  • Do you know if Roy Wood played on the early tours?

  • @zoggy2 yeah he was in the original set up

  • fantastic¡¡¡¡ thank's x post.

  • MIKE EDWARDS ONE OF THE FIRST CELLOS IN ELO STORY HAS DIED THIS WEEKEND. IN MEMORIAM THIS FANTASTIC MASTER PIECE...RIP

  • Excellent...RIp Mike Edwards.

  • Excellent footage!! By the way, is that God on the cello? Sure looks like him.

  • Totally tubular to the max!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • das kann man einfach nicht glauben das aus diesen wilden haufen mahl so was großes geworden ist

    ist schon der hammer

  • I see what you did. But in any case the video is excellent and so is the audio.

  • Interesting ending, different than studio recording. The audience sound enthused.

  • It seems like most of the videos that show them here at Civic Hall play out of turn (execpt Queen Of The Hours). I don't mind it though, i'm use to it. Love this virsion of the 10538 Overture.

  • The video is from the Granada TV show appearance and the audio is from the Guildford Civic Hall 1972. There is no other live footage available of the original ELO lineup including Roy Wood. It would be almost impossible to get exact sync with the video and audio. The most important thing is to share this historical recording. I think it's better than having just a still picture and having the moving video of them performing gives you an idea of how it felt to be at this concert.

  • Ahhh.... Thanks for clearing that up. I agree with you movejefflynnelo. Anyway I have really enjoyed these you have sent in. Thank you again.

  • I agree.

  • @adamethan6770 This was a great album. Miss them!!

  • @avalanche344 You don't know how right you are! I love this band to no end.

  • Amazing!!!

  • I like this version better than the original album.

  • This is Roy Wood. Founding member of "The Move" and "E.L.O."

  • Who is the one with the old man costume?

  • Wow...this is RAW! You get the feeling the bows could have gone right through their cellos they were grinding them that much! Awesome!!

  • This was in the beginning a very bold experiment. I believe some of the audience were kind of shocked when they heard this kind of music !

I like almost averything ELO has done but I really admire these early days when the main thing was music not aiming to the commercial success.

  • I still love this song.

  • Jeff Lynne is singing the lead vocal.

  • It´s kind of strange that Roy Wood was much more known in the public in 1971- 72 than Jeff Lynne.

When the first ELO album was released the critcs said : Roy you really did it this time ! Though Jeff wrote even more songs for early ELO than Roy.

  • Heavy light music !

  • Excellent!

  • Thanks for video,Veluby.

  • Great video!, love the "old " ELO, and this song.
