  • Why was this poem ever written? Is this what Mr. Owen thought disability was? This isn't disability here—this poem is about helplessness, which is very different. I also see that there are other videos of this poem. What do people see in it?

  • @Shockwave474 You obviously don't know about the poem's context. The hopelessness you rightly refer to is brought about due to his disability. Society had encouraged young men to sign up and fight and identified those who go to war as heroes. The young man in this poem had signed up out of post-football match euphoria, bravado, propaganda which glorified war, to please his girlfriend and so on. The war devatstates him, turning a young sportsman into a cripple and stripping him of his identity.

  • @Veronsome That's not what I was saying at all. Okay, maybe a little bit, but it still needs a better title. Disability is something completely different from what this poem is saying.
