@karlmoles65 yes, the moody atmosphere the music creates and the kind of vocals reminds me a lot to Boc (think to 'astronmy' or 'jhon crawfrord')...but I'm referring just to this song...
Love the J.Geils Band! Saw them open for a couple of groups and they absolutely stold the show! Then they had those hits in the 80's and I saw them and they had'tlost a step...could still put on a show like nobody's business!
One of their coolest songs!!!!The live version on their LP "Blow your face out" is much better than this version and makes you want to lay back and mellow out :-)Thanks for posting this classic :-)
@atomicpunk48 Even though I do agree with you I can't rag on Freeze Frame too much. It came out when I was a HS sophomore and it led me to the rest of their music, which admittedly, I preferred. After I did get into them I was really shocked by how different the rest of their music was.
@karlmoles65 I was also in HS I think. Can't remember what year this came out. I got out in '81. Wasn't a bad album, but their most commercial. They made a lot of cash and then they broke up for 15 years or so.
@karlmoles65 Was there another one after Freeze Frame? I can kinda remember something going on, but barely remember it. All these years later, I'm still stuck on Sanctuary. That was the best one for me.
@atomicpunk48 It was called You'rre Gettin Even While I'm Gettin Odd. Seth Justman (One of my fave Keyboardists ever btw) handled the Vox. It was released in 84. The song The Bite From Inside from it ain't bad. And I love Sanctuary.
@karlmoles65 Hey brother, you're all right. Give me a buzz about Geils anytime. Are you from the Boston area or Detroit? Seems like the only two cities that cared about them.
@karlmoles65 Thanks to you, I dug out my old Sanctuary album. Even now, there's not one bad song on the whole album. But the one song I used to skip over when I was younger because I thought it was boring, absolutely kills me now. Teresa.
I first heard this song while tripping on Window Pane. This song is burnt into my brain...every note. One of their songs that didn't get airplay or appreciation!
I liked this band in the 70's. However, they seemed to get too commercialized or something later on. Is it just me, or do you hear the change (not to be confused with the chimes).
@nchevrea they changed because the world changed....but when they left, they left as one of the best. Unlike some other bands that just didnt know when to quit.
@JoeAble72 Stupid Ass WMG banhammered it, twice. I can get around it once, but when they do it the second time there's nothing I can do. I have to appeal almost every one of my videos. They took down almost all my Foreigner vids too. Greedy Aholes.
@DAGUY I should buy a tread, I just go up the side of the road myself. Chimes is from "Ladies Invited" Not nearly as good an album, but Chimes is my favorite Geils song overall.
@DAGUY Yeah it's dangerous. I am thinking of switching to a stationary bike or tread. I do weights myself, I'm sure a gym would have a better selection though. I got a pretty good collection too, and I also like Jazz. Also, thanks for the recommendation!
love the harmonica solo in the middle of this song it takes me away!!! it makes my mouth water love it after i listen to his song i always feel better
@karlmoles65 Diatonic harmonicas are the small 10 hole harps that are dedicated to one key, i.e. A, Bflat, C, D, F, G, etc. Chromatic harps are larger (usually 12 to 16 holes) with a slide button on the side that changes octaves. Much harder to play and a different sound.
The Blow Your Face Out live version is truly the best live song I have ever heard and infinitely better than this version, although I quite enjoyed this too. They were a truly an amazing live act and I lucked out big time when I missed this era, I wish I had been around for this...
@iamdw1 I wish I had as well, though I didn't miss it by much, I was a little kid in the 70s. I got into all the music a decade late in the 80s. This version has grown a lot on me over the years though.
@pineapplecircus It is my favorite. When I was a junior in HS in 1983 I picked up a copy of Blow You Face Out on cassette and was utterly blown away by the live version of Chimes. It is best listened too between the hours of Midnight and 4am though, haha!
Thank You for Downloading this song. It was always my favorite because of the Blues Attributes. In 67' it was the J. Geils Blues Band. Saw this Band in 74 at Cobo Arena, Detroit. Live version of this song is phenomenal. Just glad to finally hear any version here. They might have came from Boston, but Motown Adopted Them. And they Adopted us back. Full house in 72 at The Cinderella Ballroom will always be my favorite album though.
@Longshotsblues It is true fans that love the music like You that I upload awesome songs like this for. I am very gratified You enjoy the video and song,

@donahl01 I was 5 in 70. I got into Geils in 83 when I got a tape copy of Blow Your Face Out. I fell in love with the live version of Chimes, been a Geils fan ever since. Later I found this version and liked it even better.
@donahl01 Ladies invited wasn't released until 1973. Live Full House recorded at The Cinderella Ballroom was released in 72. The first Album was just entitled The J. Geils Band, released in 1970.
I posted this up with the Album cover as the graphic, and they pulled it due to copyright within a day or two! Good luck, hope it stays up! Killer tune from what I consider a great, but underrated band!
@nantasketph There is a way around the copyright crap, just most people don't know it. I consider them massively underrated too. This is my favorite song of theirs. When I was 18 I had a cassette copy of Blow Your Face Out and the live version of Chimes from it just blew me away. I been a Geils fan ever since.
@karlmoles65 My story is teh same as yours I got the Blow your face out album when I was 16 or 17 and listened to the 7:47 version over and over. Monkey is a super treadmill CD.
What album is this from?

@karlmoles65 I used to do the side of the road and almost got hit a few times. Mostly by rednecks and/or old people.lol
I like the gym because, after the tread, I do weights for 1 to 1 & 1/2 hrs.
I've got over a thousand CDs from classic to jazz to J Priest.lol
Have you heard the CD by Gotye called Like drawing Blood?
It's really good. Check it out.

I'm in Wisconsin and am getting ready to try to "sell my life" here.
I have a house, business, work truck and lots of "stuff".
I want to just travel.
I have a 93 XJS cinvertible which is metallic purple.
I'm planning a road trip in Aug or Sept to the Carolinas.
Maybe do some "fox" hunting. They have some neat foxes down there always looking for a little new white tail.lol
Life is good.
Should be a good ride in the Jag. I've got lots of CDs and sattelite radio.
