  • is it me or did they not really like green magic........

  • I almost thought that was Seth Rogan (Pienapple Express) on the left for a minute... Sounds just fucking like him...

  • If you think Trample breaks the rule, try playing Platinum Angel and equipping The Shield of Kaldra to it.

    Google it!

(I know it can be unequipped with a spell )

  • It's a beartestrophy!

  • ----->>> Housekeeping Alert! It's Laundry Day in newHorizone January 22-24!! Take advantage of it!!! vzones (dot)

  • seth rogen

  • they don't warn for reach! creature with reach can block flying.

    not to bad. 4/5

  • So you can only block with an untapped creature.

  • correct

  • @MisterKaiba101 Yes or my flying wall :D

  • this is my third comment on these vidios .. and when im looking at these vidios im feeling realy... greatfully - if it is a word. if not, then it is now :)

  • tanks for the videos their realy helpfull

  • They did not mention the UNTAP BLOCKING RULE:

This is one of the few rules that is never bent by any other effect. It is very simple:

-Blocking can only be made by UNTAP CREATURES. In my opinion, it is a very basic rule that they did not mention...

  • so worm is blackwing bora in yugioh. Magic is interesting

  • Magic is the prototype of all trading games, so not be surprised

  • this time the grizzly bear owns him XD

  • Ok if you could comment on my youtube profile thatd be awsome cause i have a question, the way u just taught me and the way i was taught bymy friend whos been playing for years are different in two ways, 1 is thatif you block with a creature the creature that u blocked with becomes tapped and is untapped at the begining of your turn (to prevent second plockage), also i never was taught the "block with 2 vs 1", have the rules been changed or am i just wrong?

  • your rules are a little off... its always been that you can assign as many blockers as you like,

and blocking has never caused tapping... there is no second chance to attack.. all attacks must be declared at the same time... all blockers get declared next, then damage....

  • You are right the untap blocker is never bent by any other effect!

  • the rules have not changed, you don't have to tap creatures when you block with them. Also, you can block an attacking creature with any number of creatures (but no creature can block more than 1 creature unless an effect states so).

  • first, blocking doesn't cause your blocker to be tapped, HOWEVER, say its your turn and you attack with your creatures, causing them to be tapped. Creatures that are tapped can't block at your opponents turn. Mass blocking is still legal, the "2v1" thing.

  • You used to be able to block 1 creature with several other creatures with an ability called 'Banding', but that has become pritty much redundant now! Thats really old cards that are so crap! You CAN'T Block with more than 1, Ok?

We don't tap to block. Only to Attack. If you HAD to tap to block, that would enable "Victimise" where by a player gets attacked again after the first attack by another player just because they are vunerable.. Because they tapped to block. Tell your friend to fuck off!

  • You are wrong:

Blocking player is always allow to block a big creature using one or several creatures, but the attacker distributes the damage.

"Banding" is an effect that allows the defender to distribute the damage (not the attacker as in a usual attack).

In the attack, banding allows the little creatures can form a band (a new big creature with summed up attack/toughness) in order to survive. The attack band is considered as an unique creature.

  • I stand corrected.

    Can u answer me this?

Morph creatures (turned face down) are colourless, & are apparently 'artifacts'. I found this out today when my friend blocked my creature with 'shadow' with a face-down morph card. Is he correct? Colourless are artifacts? And therefor can block creatures with shadow?

  • No way!

"Shadow" is similar to "flying". Only creatures with "shadow", or creature that gain shadow using an effect can block it.

Shadow does not regard about colour of the creature!

  • I'm very sorry, I got the Term wrong! I ment to say 'FEAR', not Shadow. I had a Black Beatle of some Kind 2/2 with FEAR, & my Friend (who claims to be an expert) blocked it with a 3/3 Morphed Creature. And he said "Because it's Morphed, it's colourless. And therefore treated as an artifact & can Block my Beatle. Fear means they can only be blocked by Black & artifact Creatures.

    Is THAT right?

  • @therealKINDLE Yeppers

  • however, the "Shadowmage" card who does not have "shadow", must be blocked by a black or artifact creature.

Shadow appears in Stronghold and Tempest sets.

  • You were taught wrong. Seeing as this video was put out by Wizards, the company that makes MTG, everything they say in the video is the rule. blocking does not cause the blocker to tap and you can indeed block one guy with 2 or more guys.

  • the guy on the right is hottt

  • dude...

  • see you cant even deny it!

  • Gay Luigi?

  • great vid, but are there any for beginners that are a bit more advanced? I am pretty green, but I already have this stuff down, ya know?

  • OMG! The guy to the left sounds just like Seth Rogen!

    Very cool and useful vid.

  • Im glad somebody else said that. He totally does.

  • Actually, if you all want to play a great ccg that's cheap to buy, check out Wyvern. You can get it on ebay super cheap because it died years ago. It came out just after magic & flew for like 2 years before dying out, like so many other card games.

Wyvern is really fun & easy to learn & play. I highly recommend it. Especially since you won't go broke collecting the cards.

It's not as good as mtg, but it is fun to play.

    That's all that matters, really

  • OMG! this game looks very cool! I can,t wait to buy my first card!

  • same i never knew how awsome this game was

  • dude sounds like seth rogen

  • Yes, i need deck building.

  • When you are defending and you inflict damage to an opponent, is it the defending number or the attacking number that you use? Exemple I have a 3/3 and the defenders has a 4/2. I do 3 so he dies. He does 2 or 4 ? Or since he dies he does nothing? If he does nothing, what would it be anyway, 2 or 4? Thanks

  • the damage happends at the same time unless the card says otherwise (first strike, double strike) so your 3/3 would deal 3 damage to the 4/2 and the 4/2 would deal 4 damage to your 3/3 so after damage resolves both creatures die

  • thx a lot

  • @slikker68 no such thing as an attacking and defending number. their is an attack number and toughness number. When a monster does damage its always with the first number and when a monster takes damage it takes the damage from its toughness, the second number. So you would both die because he does do four damage to you which is higher then your three toughness and you would do three damage to his two toughness. Both die.

  • thx a lot

  • very very cool!!!!

  • If any new players have questions, feel free to ask. I'm not a pro, but I've played for over 10 years. Not much lately though. Need a new gaming group. Anyway, these videos are excellent.

  • i got one q for ya... now i always thought if i blocked. my creatures toughness would be fighting the attackers power this video says other wise. it says my blocking creatures power will do damage to the attacker but that just seems so backwards....so say i block a 1/1 with a wall of 0/7 they both live?

  • @soulkens the way i understand it is that it's really both. the 1 power would drop your toughness to 6 but since your power is 0 the 1/1 would stay, if however your card was a 2/2 and YOU were attacking the 1/1, your 2 power would take out the 1/1 while at the same time the 1 power would drop your toughness one point.

  • @soulkens

    Yes, they would both live.

Each creature deals it POWER to the other creatures TOUGHNESS.

Your POWER is your ATTACK strength

Your TOUGHNESS is your DEFENSE strength

You're confused because of the term (attacker & defender). In battle, both the defender & attacker 'attack' each other.

Think SWORD for your POWER & SHIELD for your TOUGHNESS & it'll make a lot more sense.

  • He put it in his graveyard because he was done with that scenario. If it were a real game, the hawk would've remained in play.

  • Not as complicated a game as I was lead to believe. I'll definitely be playing this soon

  • Wow, Just got my first starter deck today, watched these vids, and Im confident enough to ADD cards, and I think i'm ready to battle, these vids are great, thanks!

  • do u have to tap a land to play an instant if you are defending???

  • Yes. You need to tap a free mana source to play an instant.

  • yes

  • These videos are great I just got my first magic deck rituals of rebirth and this has really helped

  • this game actually seems pretty good. ^^D

  • do you choose your attackers one at a time, or all the ones you want attacking at once?

I'm not sure, because of the abbility Exalted. (Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.) is that for attacking, defending, or both?

  • Exalted is only attacking. You choose which monsters you want to attack all at one time. So if you decided you only want one monster to attack that turn, that one monster gets +1/+1 till the end of that turn.

  • You choose all at once.

  • You have to chose to attack at the same time. BUT, if you ONLY attack with one creature, then they get +1/+1 for EACH creature that you control with exalted. The exalted ability only works for your attacking creatures, not your blocking. So it's up to you if you want to attack (or "swing" as I call it) with more than one creature or swing with one creature that gets super pumped with exalted. keep in mind that if your opponent has no creatures, attack him with whatever would do more damage.

  • let's say I have 1 taped creature and 3 untaped creatures before I choose attacks, and one of the untaped has Exalted: are these my options?

    - I can choose all three untapped, but need to tap them all at once. (no Exalt effect)

    - I can choose two, but need to tap them both at once. (no Exalt, and not being able to attack with the third this turn)

    - I can choose only the Exalted one (he gets +3/+3 because I have three that aren't attacking. no second chance of attacking with the others)

  • oh! the creature that has Exalted isn't the one getting the bonus?

  • when you attack for life points does your creature die?

  • noo sir. just deals damage.

  • If your creature is blocked and the creature that blocked it has power equal to or greater than the attacking creature then yes it would die. There are some exceptions but that's a good rule. This is a great game! Good luck in your playing.

  • the minimum is 60, but you can have as many as you want.

  • how many card can you have in a deck, what is the minimum and maximum any

  • When a card attacks for life points does it die?

  • ill use a black/green elf deck

  • If i blocked with a 4/4 while he attacked with a 3/3, wouldnt my blocker have 1/1 until the turn was over?

  • When damage is applied to a creature, only its toughness (the number on the right) is affected -- not its power (the number on the left).

So, if a 4/4 blocks a 3/3, its toughness is temporarily reduced by 3, making it a 4/1 until the end of the turn.

  • that means that an instant with 1 dmg will kill it after that battle right?

  • Yes.

  • In theory, yes. So you would only have to do 1 more damage to knock out the 4/4

  • It wouldn't be a 1/1. It would be a 4/1. It's power doesn't go away from combat, only it's defense.

  • can you attack with 2 ore more creatures at the same time??

  • i think if you barley put the monster on the first time, you can't use that card in play but if you had the card on the battlefield after one turn the i think u could use both monsters.

  • but when my oppent attacks with 1 creature(2/2) and i have 2 creatures(1/1).

so can i block with one or i can block with both of the creatures?

  • You can do both

if you block with one then just that (1/1) dies

if you block with both then both creatures will die, but so will the attacker

  • its a beartastrafy..lmfao...what a geek

  • so wait.... if i attack and they block do i choose where the damage goes or do they?

  • The attacker chhoses where the damage goes if there are 2 or more blockers

  • iam so playing magic

  • Two nerds trying to sound cool to promote the game. LOL

  • Guy on the left sounds alot like Seth Rogan. lawl

  • I am kind confused now. I just started playing a few days ago and I swear the rules said that the defending player can only block with 1 creature per attacking creature.

  • a defending player can block an attacking creature with as many creatures as they want (unless a card says otherwise). It's called "gang-blocking".

so if I attack you with a 2/2 creature and you have two 1/1s, you can choose to block my creature with both of yours. Since the 2/2 has a power of 2 and your 1/1s together have a toughness of 2, both of your 1/1s would be destroyed. However, since your 1/1s also have a combined power of 2 and my 2/2 also has a toughness of 2, my 2/2 goesdownalso

  • but thats pointless because one of them would absorb all of the damage.....im not totally sure just learned today

  • but thats just it. Yes your creature(s) soak up the damage, but at the same time, you can destroy an opposing creature

  • I think these are really good for beginners, I have a large collection of cards and this helped me a lot.

  • what deck would you reccomend for a begginer?(like me lol)

  • Duel decks

  • trample :) you do have to worry ;)

  • lol bring it my zombie deck can take it

  • blue and green deck mine is haha counter spells :P

  • Im stuck with yugioh cause thats all my friends play.. I would play magic but none of my friends do O_o

  • what if i block a creature with 2 power with a creature with 3 toughness does the attacking creature die?

  • lets say you have a 2/2 and your attak as been blocked by a 1/3

your 2/2 now is a 2/1(its life as been damaged by 1) and you oponent 1/3 is now a 1/1(its life as been damaged by 2)

    so no one dies

if you have a spell that does 1 damage you call kill the oponent creature but if not, end of the turn.

at the end of every turn you card comes back to its origninal state so the card are back to 2/2 and 1/3 and you oponent is playing

  • does that spell have to be an instant or any spell is ok? sorry im noob. Also if you do what u describe above, can you then use a 1/1 creature to kill or do you have to attack with all your creatures at the same time?

  • are there card rulings just like in yugioh?

  • the games totally different.

  • i think that the cards are kool and

the game seems fun but theres

no one i know that plays it T_T

i'm the only one with magic cards

  • Go to your local card store and make new friends! Someone's gotta be there playing...Or try to convert the pre existing friends..hehehe, that's more like it..:P

  • i went to the card store by me once theres

just a bunch of older guy theres lol i'm

16 standing there with a bunch of 25+

guy XD plus i hardly play so i'm not very

good so i don't want play with the pros

    lol

  • i attack with a 2/2 and he blocks with a 1/1. Does my card go to 1/2 the next turn?

  • no, it will recover instantly at the end of the turn

  • no all damage done to a ceature is nulled at the end of the turn......I think.

  • well... the attacking player can't attack a specific creature, and each creature can only block once - so there is no damage

  • nope at the end of the turn your creature repleneshes its stats

  • i mean like this king of ability. "Tap this creature->deal 1dmg to target player or creature

  • yes you can play them like they are instants as long as the card doesnt say you cant

  • is tapping ability instants?

  • yes it counts as as instants

  • can i block with a tapped creature???

  • No, tapped creatures can't block, so plan carefully which creatures you attack with and which you don't.

  • nop

  • i have a question, if you have 2 creatures on your side and an opponent chooses to atk one of them, can you block with your 2nd creature so the first doesn't take damage

  • attacks aren't directed at a specific card unless specified by an ability or spell of some sort, so the opponent can choose whether or not he/she wants to defend with a specific creature or not.

  • your oppenent only chooses who blocks if he has provoke

  • the opponent doesnt choose one of your monsters. They just declare attack. You are going to see if you are going to block and choose which of your creatures will block his. You can use two of your own to block a bigass creature of theirs, or you can just let the attack damage your life points if you don't want to sacrifice your creatures

  • Your opponent can only choose to attack - not which creatures he'll attack. When he declares which creatures he attacks with, it's entirely up to you which creature(s), if any, you'll block with and which defending creatures block which attacking creatures.

When an attacking creature is blocked by several creatures, the attacker can choose damage distribution to those blockers though.

  • you can't attack a creature with a creature the only thing you can do is attack a player then he decides what to do with his creatures.

  • umm those arent the real pictures of the cards

  • what are you talking about?

  • i mean those arnt the real picutes have the cards they dont look like like thatr

  • 2:47 LIES! you can't split damage up anymore! :-P

and he didn't order blockers. silly video

  • You seem like a good magic player.. I need some help with the rules.. please respond and help D:

  • why dont u juz ask?

  • Dunno :S

  • is it BAd that im Black, rap, and thu9en

    and play this 9ame

  • yes.

  • lol u kno ur not helpen much

i mean at least it aint yo-9i-oh

or how eva u spell it

  • i was joking

  • oh...lol

  • yes some do!!!!!

  • yo, wat does it mean if you have a star in the tougness and power thingy?

  • it means that the creatures power is equal to all the basic lands you have in play

  • Some decks have one, some have two, and some even have three colors.

  • Depends how many colors you have. Like a black red deck consists of mountains and swamps. But a mono colored deck like White only consists of plains

  • After the blocker survives combat do you tap it?

  • No.

  • Nay.

  • nope.

    blockers do not tap

  • Blocking doesn't cause creatures to tap

  • I don't need to go to the store. My brother has a box full of magic cards.

  • ASS

  • does anyone knows what first strike and double strike means.??

    please reply...

  • First strike is defiantly right, best guess on double

First Strike - This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike.

Double Strike - This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike or double strike and then deals combat damage again at the normal time

    EXAMPLE:

you have a 2/2 with first strike and your opponant attacks with a 4/2. you block. Your 2/2 deals damage first and kills the 4/2

  • 0o0o0ow.... i get..

well, so for double strike... if i have 2/2 double strike, and i attacked it...

    then a 4/4creature blocked it..

both of mine and that creature will die right.?

    correct me if im mistaken...

and... thank you for ur answer too.. ^_^

atleast i got the first strike.

  • yep both would die,unfortunately

  • o0o0ow thanks, now i know now. ^_^

  • yes, it actually only needs a 2 power to kill it though.

  • Like I said Blue-Eyes White Dragon could own any Magic creature because he has 3000 power and 2500 toughness

  • i hope you know you're comparing 2 completely different games? oO

  • I was just trying to see what people would say...and so far everyone has been very polite with their arguments.

  • is it true that cards that have flying can block creatures that dont? like land creatures?

  • yer

  • Yes, almost always, it will say on the card if it cant block nonflying creatures

  • yes they can, but not vice versa

  • the B.F.M can :P

  • Blue-eyes white dragon has 3000 atk no card in magic can beat it lol

  • Yes but Attack and Defense Points are different for Power and Toughness. FOr all you know 1000 Atk Points could = 1 Power.

  • Phage The Untouchable Owns Anything :D

  • il just boomerang him :) then make you discard him with a card like Mind Rot or Ravenous Rats :P

  • What is the point of blocking if u cant block when ur tapped

  • u can leave your creature untapped and block then

  • hey i got a question if your opponents monster is tapped can it still block

  • No, Your Opponents Creature Can't Block. When A Creature Is Tapped, It Cannot Block. It Has To Be Untapped.

  • Not under normal circumstances.

  • if i attack with a 2/1 and it is blocked by 1/1 does my 2/1 die as well because the 1/1 does 1 damage to me, or do i not take the 1 damage because i attacked first?

  • Your 2/1 does 2 damage to the 1/1's 1 defence.

Your creature kills his. His 1/1 does 1 damage to your 2/1's 1 defence. So both creatures do enough to kill each other. Both would die.

First strike is a common ability that gets around that.

  • Yes, Both Creatures Are Destroyed.

When Creatures Battle, They Hit Each Other At The Same Time, Unless One Of The Creatures Has The Ability "First Strike". Then The Creature With "First Strike" Hits First.

  • I just started playing the Magic game on Xbox Live Arcade. I never played Magic before. Playing it in reality seems like it might be fun except tracking all the things not on the cards.

How do players track abilities, "phantom cards" (not sure what they are really called, the ones that are created from thin air), bonuses from other cards, and even overall health? I'm guessing on spare paper, which seems kind of lame to me.

  • Firstly great to see a new player and i'll help.

Phantom cards. I assume u mean tokens are produced in booster packs. You can keep track with spare cards, dice, wishing stones. As for life. If you buy a fat pack (comes with 8 boosters, a novel, as well as card guide n more) it comes with a spindown dice. its a non randomized 20 sided dice to keep track of life. Also there are plastic counters which go from 1-30 life. These are easily collected and my local store sells 20 sided dice for $2 aud.
