this is my third comment on these vidios .. and when im looking at these vidios im feeling realy... greatfully - if it is a word. if not, then it is now :)
Ok if you could comment on my youtube profile thatd be awsome cause i have a question, the way u just taught me and the way i was taught bymy friend whos been playing for years are different in two ways, 1 is thatif you block with a creature the creature that u blocked with becomes tapped and is untapped at the begining of your turn (to prevent second plockage), also i never was taught the "block with 2 vs 1", have the rules been changed or am i just wrong?
your rules are a little off... its always been that you can assign as many blockers as you like,
and blocking has never caused tapping... there is no second chance to attack.. all attacks must be declared at the same time... all blockers get declared next, then damage....
the rules have not changed, you don't have to tap creatures when you block with them. Also, you can block an attacking creature with any number of creatures (but no creature can block more than 1 creature unless an effect states so).
first, blocking doesn't cause your blocker to be tapped, HOWEVER, say its your turn and you attack with your creatures, causing them to be tapped. Creatures that are tapped can't block at your opponents turn. Mass blocking is still legal, the "2v1" thing.
You used to be able to block 1 creature with several other creatures with an ability called 'Banding', but that has become pritty much redundant now! Thats really old cards that are so crap! You CAN'T Block with more than 1, Ok?
We don't tap to block. Only to Attack. If you HAD to tap to block, that would enable "Victimise" where by a player gets attacked again after the first attack by another player just because they are vunerable.. Because they tapped to block. Tell your friend to fuck off!
Blocking player is always allow to block a big creature using one or several creatures, but the attacker distributes the damage.
"Banding" is an effect that allows the defender to distribute the damage (not the attacker as in a usual attack).
In the attack, banding allows the little creatures can form a band (a new big creature with summed up attack/toughness) in order to survive. The attack band is considered as an unique creature.
Morph creatures (turned face down) are colourless, & are apparently 'artifacts'. I found this out today when my friend blocked my creature with 'shadow' with a face-down morph card. Is he correct? Colourless are artifacts? And therefor can block creatures with shadow?
I'm very sorry, I got the Term wrong! I ment to say 'FEAR', not Shadow. I had a Black Beatle of some Kind 2/2 with FEAR, & my Friend (who claims to be an expert) blocked it with a 3/3 Morphed Creature. And he said "Because it's Morphed, it's colourless. And therefore treated as an artifact & can Block my Beatle. Fear means they can only be blocked by Black & artifact Creatures.
You were taught wrong. Seeing as this video was put out by Wizards, the company that makes MTG, everything they say in the video is the rule. blocking does not cause the blocker to tap and you can indeed block one guy with 2 or more guys.
Actually, if you all want to play a great ccg that's cheap to buy, check out Wyvern. You can get it on ebay super cheap because it died years ago. It came out just after magic & flew for like 2 years before dying out, like so many other card games.
Wyvern is really fun & easy to learn & play. I highly recommend it. Especially since you won't go broke collecting the cards.
When you are defending and you inflict damage to an opponent, is it the defending number or the attacking number that you use? Exemple I have a 3/3 and the defenders has a 4/2. I do 3 so he dies. He does 2 or 4 ? Or since he dies he does nothing? If he does nothing, what would it be anyway, 2 or 4? Thanks
the damage happends at the same time unless the card says otherwise (first strike, double strike) so your 3/3 would deal 3 damage to the 4/2 and the 4/2 would deal 4 damage to your 3/3 so after damage resolves both creatures die
@slikker68 no such thing as an attacking and defending number. their is an attack number and toughness number. When a monster does damage its always with the first number and when a monster takes damage it takes the damage from its toughness, the second number. So you would both die because he does do four damage to you which is higher then your three toughness and you would do three damage to his two toughness. Both die.
If any new players have questions, feel free to ask. I'm not a pro, but I've played for over 10 years. Not much lately though. Need a new gaming group. Anyway, these videos are excellent.
i got one q for ya... now i always thought if i blocked. my creatures toughness would be fighting the attackers power this video says other wise. it says my blocking creatures power will do damage to the attacker but that just seems so backwards....so say i block a 1/1 with a wall of 0/7 they both live?
@soulkens the way i understand it is that it's really both. the 1 power would drop your toughness to 6 but since your power is 0 the 1/1 would stay, if however your card was a 2/2 and YOU were attacking the 1/1, your 2 power would take out the 1/1 while at the same time the 1 power would drop your toughness one point.
Wow, Just got my first starter deck today, watched these vids, and Im confident enough to ADD cards, and I think i'm ready to battle, these vids are great, thanks!
do you choose your attackers one at a time, or all the ones you want attacking at once?
I'm not sure, because of the abbility Exalted. (Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.) is that for attacking, defending, or both?
Exalted is only attacking. You choose which monsters you want to attack all at one time. So if you decided you only want one monster to attack that turn, that one monster gets +1/+1 till the end of that turn.
You have to chose to attack at the same time. BUT, if you ONLY attack with one creature, then they get +1/+1 for EACH creature that you control with exalted. The exalted ability only works for your attacking creatures, not your blocking. So it's up to you if you want to attack (or "swing" as I call it) with more than one creature or swing with one creature that gets super pumped with exalted. keep in mind that if your opponent has no creatures, attack him with whatever would do more damage.
If your creature is blocked and the creature that blocked it has power equal to or greater than the attacking creature then yes it would die. There are some exceptions but that's a good rule. This is a great game! Good luck in your playing.
i think if you barley put the monster on the first time, you can't use that card in play but if you had the card on the battlefield after one turn the i think u could use both monsters.
I am kind confused now. I just started playing a few days ago and I swear the rules said that the defending player can only block with 1 creature per attacking creature.
a defending player can block an attacking creature with as many creatures as they want (unless a card says otherwise). It's called "gang-blocking".
so if I attack you with a 2/2 creature and you have two 1/1s, you can choose to block my creature with both of yours. Since the 2/2 has a power of 2 and your 1/1s together have a toughness of 2, both of your 1/1s would be destroyed. However, since your 1/1s also have a combined power of 2 and my 2/2 also has a toughness of 2, my 2/2 goesdownalso
does that spell have to be an instant or any spell is ok? sorry im noob. Also if you do what u describe above, can you then use a 1/1 creature to kill or do you have to attack with all your creatures at the same time?
Go to your local card store and make new friends! Someone's gotta be there playing...Or try to convert the pre existing friends..hehehe, that's more like it..:P
i have a question, if you have 2 creatures on your side and an opponent chooses to atk one of them, can you block with your 2nd creature so the first doesn't take damage
attacks aren't directed at a specific card unless specified by an ability or spell of some sort, so the opponent can choose whether or not he/she wants to defend with a specific creature or not.
the opponent doesnt choose one of your monsters. They just declare attack. You are going to see if you are going to block and choose which of your creatures will block his. You can use two of your own to block a bigass creature of theirs, or you can just let the attack damage your life points if you don't want to sacrifice your creatures
Your opponent can only choose to attack - not which creatures he'll attack. When he declares which creatures he attacks with, it's entirely up to you which creature(s), if any, you'll block with and which defending creatures block which attacking creatures.
When an attacking creature is blocked by several creatures, the attacker can choose damage distribution to those blockers though.
First strike is defiantly right, best guess on double
First Strike - This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike.
Double Strike - This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike or double strike and then deals combat damage again at the normal time
EXAMPLE:
you have a 2/2 with first strike and your opponant attacks with a 4/2. you block. Your 2/2 deals damage first and kills the 4/2
if i attack with a 2/1 and it is blocked by 1/1 does my 2/1 die as well because the 1/1 does 1 damage to me, or do i not take the 1 damage because i attacked first?
When Creatures Battle, They Hit Each Other At The Same Time, Unless One Of The Creatures Has The Ability "First Strike". Then The Creature With "First Strike" Hits First.
I just started playing the Magic game on Xbox Live Arcade. I never played Magic before. Playing it in reality seems like it might be fun except tracking all the things not on the cards.
How do players track abilities, "phantom cards" (not sure what they are really called, the ones that are created from thin air), bonuses from other cards, and even overall health? I'm guessing on spare paper, which seems kind of lame to me.
Phantom cards. I assume u mean tokens are produced in booster packs. You can keep track with spare cards, dice, wishing stones. As for life. If you buy a fat pack (comes with 8 boosters, a novel, as well as card guide n more) it comes with a spindown dice. its a non randomized 20 sided dice to keep track of life. Also there are plastic counters which go from 1-30 life. These are easily collected and my local store sells 20 sided dice for $2 aud.

This is one of the few rules that is never bent by any other effect. It is very simple:
-Blocking can only be made by UNTAP CREATURES. In my opinion, it is a very basic rule that they did not mention...

Yes, they would both live.
Each creature deals it POWER to the other creatures TOUGHNESS.
Your POWER is your ATTACK strength
Your TOUGHNESS is your DEFENSE strength
You're confused because of the term (attacker & defender). In battle, both the defender & attacker 'attack' each other.
Think SWORD for your POWER & SHIELD for your TOUGHNESS & it'll make a lot more sense.

let's say I have 1 taped creature and 3 untaped creatures before I choose attacks, and one of the untaped has Exalted: are these my options?
- I can choose all three untapped, but need to tap them all at once. (no Exalt effect)
- I can choose two, but need to tap them both at once. (no Exalt, and not being able to attack with the third this turn)
- I can choose only the Exalted one (he gets +3/+3 because I have three that aren't attacking. no second chance of attacking with the others)

FnHilarious101 2 years ago
When damage is applied to a creature, only its toughness (the number on the right) is affected -- not its power (the number on the left).
So, if a 4/4 blocks a 3/3, its toughness is temporarily reduced by 3, making it a 4/1 until the end of the turn.

lets say you have a 2/2 and your attak as been blocked by a 1/3
your 2/2 now is a 2/1(its life as been damaged by 1) and you oponent 1/3 is now a 1/1(its life as been damaged by 2)
so no one dies
if you have a spell that does 1 damage you call kill the oponent creature but if not, end of the turn.
at the end of every turn you card comes back to its origninal state so the card are back to 2/2 and 1/3 and you oponent is playing

petree50 2 years ago
attacks aren't directed at a specific card unless specified by an ability or spell of some sort, so the opponent can choose whether or not he/she wants to defend with a specific creature or not.
Littlebrother1123 2 years ago
your oppenent only chooses who blocks if he has provoke
sanokillzone 2 years ago
the opponent doesnt choose one of your monsters. They just declare attack. You are going to see if you are going to block and choose which of your creatures will block his. You can use two of your own to block a bigass creature of theirs, or you can just let the attack damage your life points if you don't want to sacrifice your creatures
thetikia2 2 years ago
Your opponent can only choose to attack - not which creatures he'll attack. When he declares which creatures he attacks with, it's entirely up to you which creature(s), if any, you'll block with and which defending creatures block which attacking creatures.
When an attacking creature is blocked by several creatures, the attacker can choose damage distribution to those blockers though.
Spiderboydk 2 years ago
you can't attack a creature with a creature the only thing you can do is attack a player then he decides what to do with his creatures.

yo, wat does it mean if you have a star in the tougness and power thingy?
legomaster678 2 years ago
it means that the creatures power is equal to all the basic lands you have in play
theMINIkebabs 2 years ago
Some decks have one, some have two, and some even have three colors.
kibbles1053 2 years ago
Depends how many colors you have. Like a black red deck consists of mountains and swamps. But a mono colored deck like White only consists of plains
FnHilarious101 2 years ago
After the blocker survives combat do you tap it?

does anyone knows what first strike and double strike means.??
please reply...
kebyonatin 2 years ago
First strike is defiantly right, best guess on double
First Strike - This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike.
Double Strike - This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike or double strike and then deals combat damage again at the normal time
EXAMPLE:
you have a 2/2 with first strike and your opponant attacks with a 4/2. you block. Your 2/2 deals damage first and kills the 4/2
Notrealyagamemaster 2 years ago
0o0o0ow.... i get..
well, so for double strike... if i have 2/2 double strike, and i attacked it...
then a 4/4creature blocked it..
both of mine and that creature will die right.?
correct me if im mistaken...
and... thank you for ur answer too.. ^_^
atleast i got the first strike.
kebyonatin 2 years ago
yep both would die,unfortunately
Notrealyagamemaster 2 years ago
o0o0ow thanks, now i know now. ^_^
kebyonatin 2 years ago
yes, it actually only needs a 2 power to kill it though.
shagoosty 2 years ago
Like I said Blue-Eyes White Dragon could own any Magic creature because he has 3000 power and 2500 toughness
sonicman25 2 years ago
i hope you know you're comparing 2 completely different games? oO
goldenesroesti 2 years ago
I was just trying to see what people would say...and so far everyone has been very polite with their arguments.
sonicman25 2 years ago
is it true that cards that have flying can block creatures that dont? like land creatures?
CheckOutMySolo 2 years ago
yer
BanicRhys 2 years ago
Yes, almost always, it will say on the card if it cant block nonflying creatures
lazylink 2 years ago
yes they can, but not vice versa
Virtunx 2 years ago
the B.F.M can :P
boblong91 2 years ago
Blue-eyes white dragon has 3000 atk no card in magic can beat it lol
sonicman25 2 years ago
Yes but Attack and Defense Points are different for Power and Toughness. FOr all you know 1000 Atk Points could = 1 Power.
BanicRhys 2 years ago
Phage The Untouchable Owns Anything :D
Magic4Real312 2 years ago
il just boomerang him :) then make you discard him with a card like Mind Rot or Ravenous Rats :P
Virtunx 2 years ago
What is the point of blocking if u cant block when ur tapped
PurpleCapitol 2 years ago
u can leave your creature untapped and block then
TaoXX 2 years ago
hey i got a question if your opponents monster is tapped can it still block
aceofkings98 2 years ago
No, Your Opponents Creature Can't Block. When A Creature Is Tapped, It Cannot Block. It Has To Be Untapped.
LeGacie17 2 years ago
Not under normal circumstances.
4ntig3n 2 years ago
if i attack with a 2/1 and it is blocked by 1/1 does my 2/1 die as well because the 1/1 does 1 damage to me, or do i not take the 1 damage because i attacked first?
footyjr52 2 years ago
Your 2/1 does 2 damage to the 1/1's 1 defence.
Your creature kills his. His 1/1 does 1 damage to your 2/1's 1 defence. So both creatures do enough to kill each other. Both would die.
First strike is a common ability that gets around that.
magicroxs 2 years ago
Yes, Both Creatures Are Destroyed.
When Creatures Battle, They Hit Each Other At The Same Time, Unless One Of The Creatures Has The Ability "First Strike". Then The Creature With "First Strike" Hits First.
LeGacie17 2 years ago
I just started playing the Magic game on Xbox Live Arcade. I never played Magic before. Playing it in reality seems like it might be fun except tracking all the things not on the cards.
How do players track abilities, "phantom cards" (not sure what they are really called, the ones that are created from thin air), bonuses from other cards, and even overall health? I'm guessing on spare paper, which seems kind of lame to me.
Jagwarr 2 years ago
Firstly great to see a new player and i'll help.
