so according to this you're saying we shouldn't have invaded iraq and let Saddam keep opressing his people and you talk of Kyoto, Rudd has signed it but thats about it, he hasn't even set a credible emision reduction target date yet
If oppression is the rationale for invading a country why didn't Howard invade the Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Congo, China, Burma or any other of many countries around the world known to oppress their citizens? Your argument asserts ignorentio elenchi that this song is about Saddam's oppression and Rudd's environmental policy credentials. In fact it is about Howard's political irresponsibility and arrogance.
all that shit you just said was arrogant, and how bloody big do you think australias army is? Not even america could invade so many countries simultaniously even if they wanted to
I think you have missed the rhetorical tone of my question (and the spelling mistake). Perhaps this will clarify things. If oppression is the rationale why invade Iraq specifically? Something to do with oil perhaps (Oh no... not that old cliche!!!!). None of the countries I mentioned have the vast reserves of oil that Iraq has. Interesting coincidence or pointed neo-con strategy for global control of energy? By the way, Australia uses very little Iraqi oil. Why are we there again?
yes, that is a sad truth that oil does have alot to do with it, however people are already complaining about paying $1.50/L. How high do you think the prices would reach if the west didnt control the oil supplies? Nobody said it's nice, it's just the way things are these days... :(
Apart from the shallowness of your argument, you have committed another logical error. You are affirming the consequent - notwithstanding your admission, by default, of the falsity of your original argument. Oil prices have in fact increased since the invasion of Iraq!! Who benefits? United States oil companies and their shareholders!
You have equated my criticism of US interests and hegemonic aspirations with being anti-USA. This is not an unreasonable conclusion to reach. However, it is false. If I am anti anything I am anti Bush (although I think the guy is hilarious - he should've been a comedian). The United States has the potential to be a positive force globally. Unfortunately, the recent unpleasantness has left people like me feeling despondent. Your comments are perplexing. Are you against the rule of law?
"Perhaps the most important application of the rule of law is the principle that governmental authority is legitimately exercised only in accordance with written, publicly disclosed laws adopted and enforced in accordance with established procedural steps that are referred to as due process." Source - Wikipedia. Not a bad definition. Specific enough? There's not enough space here for elaboration but if you google "rule of law" you will find heaps of information.
based on what i have just read I would say i agree with "the rule of law" and i believe it to be necessary. That being said i have to say that i agree with australias anti-terror laws which i believe were not in accordance with the rule of law as many of them were rushed through, therefore not "properly communicated to all"
So Johnny was planning to pull out of Iraq sometime this year?....and say 'sorry', and abolish 'workchoices', and treat refugees like human beings...only in his nightmare! Australia is slowly getting its act together, and tossing this lowlife into the garbage bin was a brilliant start!
The language and tone from you anti-Howard peeps does your own cause no favours. It seems like foolishness to bother continue talking to such company.
i was so enthralled through this entire thing. Very well done... very accurate. very fair and just. I've never seen anything like it. Congratulations and Thank you for saying what I was thinking...
Sure enough John Howard wasn't perfect but he's one of the best Prime Minister's Australia's ever had. He led our country to incredible prosperity, to become the envy of the world. If you can't appreciate that why don't you (writer of this song) go and live under a Leftist government somewhere else in the world?
Actually, China led Australia to great prosperity. Ever heard of the mining boom? Australia's prosperity came from mining companies, not from John Howard.
If China input to the mining boom is the sole aspect of Australia's properity why has every single state and territory (Labor)Goverment run up 10s of millions of dollars of debt under the same boom while Howard's Government made consistent surpluses?
State debts far exceed (disproportionately) any State funding cuts. In SA for example State Taxes have risen 48%, GST revenue has increased $4b/yr, yet State debt still remains at $3.4b. NSW lost some $850m in funding yet had $bs of debt.
Howard did nothing except ban automatic guns. Keating floated the dollar and deregulated the banks. Set the economy up so the mining boom worked well for Australia, Howard and Costello reaped the credit. Howard was just a smart politician who appealed to the lowest common denominator. As time goes on he will be seen less and less as anything good for Australia.
if labor had done the same? wait who originally opening the detention centres? OH IT WAS FUCKING KEATING YOU FOOL. if you want a blatant lie to the electrate try keatings L-A-W lie. he promised tax cuts to buy the 1993 election and then after he won it he suddenly remembered that the nation was too broke to afford them. no wonder he got raped by howard in 96
I encourage you to think outside of your Leftist bigotry for a moment. Howard presided over: record low unemployment; building of 25 Technical Schools; consistent economic strength for 11.5yrs; strengthening the defence forces;strengthening relations with China while maintaining relations with the US; tax cuts for all tax payers
I had a huge fight with the Unions at my work. I worked thruogh a number of strikes and was threatened by fellow workers. I hate leftist bullies and I voted for Howard Twice before I realised what he was. I then voted Green. In two hundred years the only politicians remembered will be Green. Howard was a lucky prick.
Howard cooked the employment books and included part time work as 'a job,' while cutting hard won worker's rights, privileges and take home pay. The large technical school in my area has lain dormant for 11 years.
Howard committed our defence forces to an illegal, unjust war against a sovereign country. Relations with China have never been worse under Howard, (read overt U.S. support for Taiwan.)
Australia is one of the highest taxed nations in the OECD.
also china makes everything now, and the workers get paid a dollar an hour, while all western countries dont make anything and are full of service industries and cafes, and governments call cafes and restaurants jobs, we need to stand up to China but is probably not possible
So you want lower wages and lesser conditions? Well, you only need to go and speak with your employer, and I'm sure they would be happy to oblige and lower your wages and conditions. The rest of us prefer to be employed as people, not slaves.
EXACTLY...Australian has never been casualised like it has now (including part timers) and this gives a misleading impression on the unemployment figures..Rudd needs to introduce a full time employment target. not an unemployment one..Good riddance to Howard, a traitor to humanity (the war in Iraq, global warming), to working people (workchoices) and to the Australian nation (no republic..let's keep H.M.)
Sorry..you misunderstood me...I suggested Howard was a traitor in wanting no republic and keeping Her Majesty..yes, by all means let's stand up now as in independent thinking nation, and have one of our own as Head oF State!
No its because I am not supporting so many people on welfare! You mean to tell me I can't spent money without interest rates going up? Perhaps Keating should not have floated the dollar then this would not be a problem!!
hawke and keating started up the process of deregulating and privatising most of the australian economy in the 80s (completely against the theme of the ALP) but howard continued those reforms and deregulations. It is a gross simplification to claim that just because of keatings deregulations it automatically meant australia was going to prosper. as the state labor governments have shown it is possible to screw up the good times.
Are you blind? Howard was a criminal, mendacious, populist, xenophobic dinosaur!! Here follows a short list of his failures as they come to mind: The wheat Board fiasco, never ever GST, core and non-core promises, no more troops in Iraq, no mandate for the introduction of Work Choices, The environment, revisionist, propagandist history for the kids etc etc etc. Thank God he is gone!

Foreigners looking at this must really wonder about Australia. They must think Howard was a dictator for 11 years and we just discovered democracy and finally liberated ourselves.
We bombed for oil? We never dropped a single bomb on Iraq, and we sure as shit never got any oil out of it.
I'm not exactly a supporter of Howard, but the ignorance of people who go to such a great effort to make themselves feel so great and politically cool in some tone-deaf propaganda piece is astounding.
Quite right. And at 8:08 someone dropped an extra L in 'coalition'.
This video is revolting both visually and aurally. I don't have a problem if you agree with its political message, and to be honest many valid points are made, but it was rather painful to endure.
Finally: "Well it's you John; yes it's you and only you" - let's not forget that the Coalition was voted in by the public for four successive terms. Those who made this video should accept that they were a minority back then.
Quite right. And at 8:08 someone dropped an extra L in 'coalition'.

Well done Australia. HOWARD IS OUT!!!!! 11 long years we've been waiting for this moment :)))) LABOR AND KEVIN RUDD HAVE TAKEN GOVERMENT. HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!
What are you on about? This song is anti-Howard, it is showing all the lies he has told us about everything it starts of about GST. Howards policy on the Tampa was nothing but racist, also if you read more about it most of the people who we turned away back then are now residents in Australia. It was a political stunt to win the election and so was the military intervention in the Northern Territory.
This is absolutely hands down one of the BEST things I have seen on YouTube. Seriously anyone with a guitar and a decent voice should be standing at the polls on Saturday singing this!!! VOTE THE LIBERALS OUT!!!
Julia Gillard was a member of a dangerous far-left radical communist leaning organisation called the Socialist Forum as recent as 2002. If a Rudd Labor government is elected, Australians will have a dangerous government. Don't risk Australia's trillion dollar economy on unionists and a former communist.
Well done, guys! Takes a while to fit all the lies in. Particularly enjoyed the catchy end chorus. Arrest that man - he's a war criminal. Phone the national hotline and report his suspicious behaviour. Peace to all.
this is beautiful. any of you artistic geniuses willing to make a proper vid for my song "John Hunt is a Coward"? You can see my pathetic attempt by clicking on my name - my song is great, vid sucks. xxxx
I hope he get's flogged as well, nothing would make me happier but Labor needs to take a significant number of seats for that to happen. Unfortunately with their poor performance in previous Elections Labor has some ground to make up if they are to win this Election.
It's doable, Labor can win this, but we need to make absolutely certain to give them the best possible chance. That is why I personally will be voting for Labor first in the House of Representatives. I usually vote Green in both areas (HOR+Senate), but this time I am concerned that even with preferences to Labor it won't be a big enough swing for them.
Vote Labor in the House of Representatives and Vote for whoever your party of choice (Greens, Democrats etc) is in the Senate. This Election is so important, we need to get Howard out!! Let's give Labor as much support as possible.
Great video and song. Great use of images, including a couple of mine ;) I dub this video the anthem of the election ... on par with the 'It's Time' anthem of 1972.
If Howard is re-elected, then Generation Yers who can no longer afford to go to university or buy a home, will all face the prospect of continuing war in the Middle East and CONSCRIPTION.
"In Memorandum"...here's hoping "The Howard Years" will soon be just that ...a very bad memory!..Fantastic video 'bigbobfrombronte'...absolutely love it!!

Finally: 'Well it's you John; yes it's you and only you' - let's not forget that the Coalition was voted in by the public for four successive terms. The makers of this video should accept that back then they were a minority.

Well done Australia. HOWARD IS OUT!!!!! 11 long years we've been waiting for this moment :)))) LABOR AND KEVIN RUDD HAVE TAKEN GOVERMENT. HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!
Emerald72 4 years ago
I was going to vote for Kevin until I saw this,
frankly I don't like labous attitude to the people smugglers and terrorists; we have plenty of 'do gooders' already.

Crawl back to your hole, troll, and pull the rock over the entrance, because the next MANY years aren't going to give you much pleasure.

You're so vain. Don't you know this song is about you?
geekaypee 4 years ago 3
What are you on about? This song is anti-Howard, it is showing all the lies he has told us about everything it starts of about GST. Howards policy on the Tampa was nothing but racist, also if you read more about it most of the people who we turned away back then are now residents in Australia. It was a political stunt to win the election and so was the military intervention in the Northern Territory.

As if you were going to vote Labor. Joker.
Your vote was in the minority last Saturday.
The Libs are destroyed. I see all the Libs "so called" leaders are now resigning one by one. RATS DESERTING A "SUNKEN" SHIP.

This is absolutely hands down one of the BEST things I have seen on YouTube. Seriously anyone with a guitar and a decent voice should be standing at the polls on Saturday singing this!!! VOTE THE LIBERALS OUT!!!

Brilliant. I've waited 11 long depressing years to see JWH cry on election night. May he be a broken old man for ever more.

The Woomera footage brings back some very sad memories. Let's hope that he's flogged on the 24th ...
MissPolitica 4 years ago
I hope he get's flogged as well, nothing would make me happier but Labor needs to take a significant number of seats for that to happen. Unfortunately with their poor performance in previous Elections Labor has some ground to make up if they are to win this Election.
Emerald72 4 years ago
It's doable, Labor can win this, but we need to make absolutely certain to give them the best possible chance. That is why I personally will be voting for Labor first in the House of Representatives. I usually vote Green in both areas (HOR+Senate), but this time I am concerned that even with preferences to Labor it won't be a big enough swing for them.
Emerald72 4 years ago
Vote Labor in the House of Representatives and Vote for whoever your party of choice (Greens, Democrats etc) is in the Senate. This Election is so important, we need to get Howard out!! Let's give Labor as much support as possible.
Emerald72 4 years ago
Hi. Great stuff. A blast to see me in there too, with my nemesis Pauling Hanson.

Why God? Why John Howard? What did I do so bad to have you inflict Bonsai Stalin on me?
Great clip....
PS: Bonsai, as in little Bush, and Stalin as in Bush's supposed man of steel.
