You Might recall it was a man named A.J. Scholes that was looking for someone that could sing a lot like Merle Travis and play guitar "alot" like Merle. Thus, Chet Atkins was discovered! I'm just grateful that we were blessed to have them both!
That looked like ol'' Travis to the right, but it was hard to tell, he wasn't looking up..."
That wasn't Travis, That was one of his boyhood buddies. I think it's Buster De Valt. He first heard Merle on the radio when he was about fifteen and didn't meet him till years later.
I just looked up on my RCA Camden LP record and it indicates "Walkin' On Strings" was written by Travis. At least he got the royalties from this recording. It is his song and his arrangement, including any slippin' and slidin' on the strings. Maybe RCA caused it to be renamed in the hopes that people would not realize the tune belonged to a Capitol record star.
For accuracy sake, I took the title off the record as Chet had it originally published. Merle was indeed the original with "Walkin the Strings", but when Chet recorded it, he changed it to walkin' ON strings...why? I haven't the faintest idea.

Very nice Chet song indeed! But as far as I know the song is called "Walkin' the Strings" and is written by Merle Travis.

You're welcome!
Man, I practically grew up on this old Chet recording! (Of course, the best I could do was play air guitar to it!)
It's a great tune, isn't it?

I hadn't heard that one before. Fantastic as usual! Thanks Daffydoug!
