Actually iPod 3G 8GB doesn't exist.. It's a 2G. iPod 3G is just 32 and 64 GB. So when you see iPod 3G 8GB it's a cockup!

you could download redsn0w from google or search youtube for example "iphone 3g, 4.2.1 jailbreak redsn0w" and once youve downloaded that you can open it up and and it gives you the options to enable battery percentage, enable wallpaper, enable multitasking, enable custom recovery boot logo, loads of cool stuff like that so give it a go

Yeah it's nice but notice when you navigate through your home screen and switch between apps it lags and takes up TONS or RAM. So yeah I agree with apple in not allowing ipod 2g's to have those features. They're just not meant for the type of hardware in 2g's.
