I like you VH, but this play makes me very angry. Tallulah drank, smoked, and did drugs admittedly, she would tell anyone who asked that she did. However, she was not a lush like this, she was known for being extreme but she was always the life of the party, witty and charming, not a lush.

Why are you all beating up Valerie Harper for being anti porn? Porn is not sexual freedom as some of you say TB stood for. So by that definition someone who isn't an alcoholic can't play one. What about someone playing a criminal? You don't have to agree with someone to tell their story. Grow up.

This so called buddy boy likes to call names, well how about PIECE OF SHIT for that low class cretin. I agree that an actor or actress has to be accepted in the part. For example, I don't think Adolf Hitler could play Golda Mier. Harper was not so well known for her ladies purity campaign, so I don't think ignorant audiences would bristle at her playing Bankhead. However, the play closed, it is history. Good riddance. Harper is more looped than Bankhead. It's a slam.

A camp drag act is fun. That doesn't make it a Broadway show. And when the person playing Tallulah has long stood against the very things Tallulah Bankhead has been noted for, such as sexual freedom- it is an insult. Valerie Harper has promoted the anti-porn crusade and sent a message encouraging its leaders trying to close down X rated bookstores. Tallulah would have slapped her, except she (VH) never was the star Tallulah was and never will be.

I am happy my opinion of this "show" has been vindicated by its total and quick failure on the stage. It closed right away. Valerie Harper was all wrong for the role. And since she has complained that porn degrades women, why is she degrading Tallulah? MONEY. But the plain truth is any drag queen can "do" Tallulah better. It isn't Broadway. Tallulah Bankhead won't soon be forgotten. Valerie Harper will.

@ZarahLean I agree full with you. VH is an insult for Tallulah. In deed, Tallulah would have slapped her for this embarrassement. VH harvested the deserved failure. Impersonation is okay, failed parodies - hmmmm -, but revolting insults like this should perish from the stage. The audience was right!

George Bush can not play Adam Lambert. Anti-porn Valerie Harper can't do justice to bawdy Tallulah. Any drag queen could play her better and not charge Broadway prices. One thing is sure: 40 years after harper leaves us, nobody will play her on stage.

@ZarahLean regardless of the show's success, or my breeding, the kind of person who would call someone a "douchebag", my sweet baboo, is the kind of person who recognizes a "douchey" statement" when it's made public on a public site like youtube. saying an actress can't play a certain type because of her private beliefs is like saying Patti LuPone can't play Eva Perone because she's not Argentinian, or that Johnny Depp can't play Jack Sparrow because he's not really a pirate.

Why she didn't win the Tony is beyond me... She was brilliant in this show.
