  • May you be blessed.... sis b

  • Inspiration!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • awwwww thats just about my dream place!!! can i ask where that is located? in the u.s.? what state?

  • Very nice. I subbed.

  • so were is this and how much land is that

  • Nice, what part of the county.

  • May I ask how many acres you have and how much did you have to pay, Thanks

  • Watch that you don't put too many chemicals in that beautiful water with modern day shampoo's, soaps, and conditioners, as they are really bad for the earth. I love the video and love the place, it is absolutely beautiful.

  • big pot boil and strain with clean cloth filter

  • 1 persons house collapsed

  • Good you have beer!

  • beautiful !

  • welcome to the 3rd world.............damn people will adapt

  • Get a Berkey water filter. The best

  • You can light your crib with cheap little garden lights get the ones that use AA batteries that way you can use them in a radio when you want to. I have some of then umbrella solar lights they hold 3 AA batt and my radio uses 3 so I can use a couple of them lights to get radio also those head lamps that take 3 AAA batt you can use 3 AA bat in place just make a quick plug for your light wear the batt around waiste they will last longer with bigger batt.

  • MDI dome filter $25 then add bleach 2 water let stand in clear glass jar in the sun an hour then through a charcoal filter $6 walmart you make it yourself get a pipe fill with charcoal witl a funnel on top and a receptical on the bottom. If you do this your water will have almost every seve guard needed and you will have great tasting water too. Just the sun and bleach is enough according to MDI the filter is enough. The UV rays destroy the bad animals in your water Charcoal removes bad taste.

  • If you know what wild edibles are a round propagate more and help them grow. Look into permaculture too. Very nice place you have.

  • dude?!

plaster your roof with solarcells(photo voltaic)

    and you will have power

  • You have beer .....your good to go!

  • chlorine for the water and a pool water testing kit. If you had a solar generator for a power supply just in case. Otherwise nice place to live and maybe plant a garden to help with the food supply.

  • It's all fun and games until you run out of ky jelly.

  • You need solar panels, cool house though. thefutureshopper

  • You'll need a much larger fireplace and the glass will need to be double or you will loose lots of heat. You can get electricity easily with solar panels and wind turbine and batteries.

  • Quite nice. Just remember the old adage K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) when it comes to your water system .The more you got going on , the more likely something will break.

Plant some native trees and bushes that bear fruit and get some open pollination seeds or heriloom seeds and learn to grow some food. You could just do a few things each year and then can the produce you do get for practice. Keep a canner many jars and lids and a very large stash of seeds at your cabin too!Congratz!

  • what year did you purchase the land where is it.want to the same as you.Send me private message.

  • Get a Big Berkey water filter! Can purify pond water and is used by emergency relief services all over the world.

    NICE SPREAD!! Congrats!!!

  • in case of fire?

  • A little food..... if we need it!!! ridiculous... about purify the water... use dental floss to suspend (must be 100% PURE) silver wire in that tank... that will keep it good to drink... do not electrify it...do not use chemicals... clean the silver every week or so & do not cover the water... let it "breath". seems that house should not have cost so much. Anyway, good for you & have fun.

  • when can i move in??????????

  • I have $50 dollars in my pocket and no debt, that makes me 17 billion dollars richer than the state of California.

The debtor is slave to the lender.

  • fantastic video guys. Hope you keep us updated on your upgrades. You two are visionaries

  • That is one cool little bungalow you guys have! I've been thinking of doing the same. The trick is, build a cheap barn and plant a bunch of fruit trees and crops. That way you get the deduction for having farm property. I realize $200/yr is like nothing for tax but it could be even less! And if you have a "FARM" you can get all kinds of other tax deductions. Great job!

  • In answer to your water question. If your roof is clean, power washed, you filter out the leaves etc, you can drink rain water. So collect the water from the roof. I have drank it like that. Why, 1-10 PPM (parts per million) tap water 350-600 PPM, bottled spring water 500-800 PPM. To be fully sure, you can heat up the water to kill anything there, but best to use a distiller, you capture the distilled steam, it is 100% pure water. Reverse Osmossis 2nd best, low cost as well, get a meter to check

  • Recommend you come to Yahoo group "s Simply off Grid. For water filter I recommend Berkey Filters.

  • For purifying water, research Earthship by Michael Reynolds... you need more edible plants and a greenhouse. Expand your house on the south side with an attached greenhouse. Cheap land is often on the north side of a hill... you get less direct light. Don't build a well in a creek. Dig a pond for fish, but don't drink that. Nearly every known parasite leaves egg stages here. Don't build a septic it will drain into the creek with your parasites. Build a composting toilet to feed pau d'arco.

  • @longhairedartist really good advise for these guys. Love the idea of a compost toilet. I saw one on a show. The place was called "Dancing Rabbits Ranch" I think. That was the first time I ever heard of a compost toilet.Best invention since sliced bread

  • @sabrinacle The incinerating toilet, incinolet, is much better than composting toilets. The kilowatt it takes to sanitize waste into ash is about the same energy composters use over time with a warmer to keep microorganisms from dying. But you can't use composted feces in your vegetable garden, and it still poses a hazard draining into your well or water source. The Earthship devises a permanent way to keep all this organized. Methane digester is good for community sized system and nets fuel.

  • haha....maybe i should have said...don't shit above a fan.

  • keep the fan turned off.

  • Did you design the layout of the house or were you following a print? Where can i get a print of a house thats under 10,000$ ??

  • I use a Reverse Osmosis system.

  • Berkey sells some really nice water filtration systems that are used in places like Haitti when nothing is available but rainwater or stagnant pond water. These are the best poor person filters in the world (about $200 for a system that will last 5 years- and requires no electricity) The only drawback is that it only makes 2 gallons per hour- so it is really just for drinking, not washing. I have one and they are amazing.

  • very very cool. now i just want to become a hermit regardless of the economy

  • The other thing you may try in water purification would be a solar still. You could run some water coils into your wood stove and back up the the still for cold weather use. 6ft2 gives you a gallon of water a day. I can send you some detailed explanation via email if you want. Not tryign to sell you anything. I am just goignt o build a similar set upusing a gas light as an heat source for night time purification.

  • My friend any time you have a house that is bough and paid for you are a step up.

  • use alittle clorine bleach, kills parasites,I did alot of this in my beach shack in belize.make sure you use a concrete tube for the well, and the pump of course.cover all with screen......also cover gutter where water goes in....

  • I am sooooo with you on that!

  • Checkout Berkshire water filtration systems e.g. ~ countertop ceramic filter gravity fed. Cheers

  • 2 silver coins....damn......:)

  • good information but good grief do not walk with the camera running. It makes my head hurt trying to focus

  • A small amount of chlorine bleach.

  • Fine entertainment there.

I really loved the holy water text on the screen right before you anounced you bathe in the "holy" water. I almost thought you were just dumb hippies but the ammo gives me hope for you. As for a well, if the ground is sandy near that holy stream just jet in a well with a gas powered pump and you should be fine. Sarcasm (my own) aside it's a nice looking place and I wish you the best.

  • make sure your well is about 100 feet away from your outhouse--

love your lifestyle- i was wondering- how do you wash your clothes

  • music too loud- couldn't hear you enough

  • not to be rude or any thing but we have had something like this for awhile ... it's called a cabin.. yours is nice

  • what about fires? arsonist?

  • Yes, It is poisonous. yes we rinse with it.

  • I read that mountain laurel is poisonous!!!! Are you guys rinsing your hands in poison?

  • Just wait until Obama becomes a dictator like Chavez. He'll raise your taxes 2000% and then take away your piece of heaven. He'll give it to illegal aliens because they should experience the American dream.

  • @jamezbond78 Dumbass dream. It is an illusion. This man has a reality going and you are talking about a damn stupid dream. Go learn Chinese instead of talking all this nonsense with love and affection aus Deutschland.

  • You have a little piece of heaven there!. Very inspirational. Do you need a permit if you generate your own electricity through solar panel?

  • Dont know if you can buy it in the US but

KATADYN (switzerland) water filters are known worldwide for excellence (armies use them as well)

  • Excellent!

Check out Berkey water filters. You could filter mud with those.

  • Great video, and a fantastic place you have there.

Ok, if your spring is uphill from the house you can have the water gravity fed to the house. If it is down hill you can drill into the spring and use a hand pump to pump the water into a tower that is higher than the incline to the house, then gravity feed the water. I really recommend Lehman's non-electric to you. They have a catalogue and a website. They will have everything you need.

  • Also many of the items they sell are Amish made, so it's good quality stuff. I have bought many things from Lehman's and it is great stuff. They also sell gravity fed water purification systems. As far as toilet goes..you can never go wrong with a high quality composting toilet.

  • Nothing a few weapons couldn't make MINE.....lol

  • i advise using the stream water for showers and toilet...and purchase drinking water..build a small well house downstream and let gravity fill the well house...use a small windmill pump ...to pump water into a storage tank above the level of your first floor....as for lighting you should consider 12 volt car batteries and an solar electric fence charger connected to LED lighting...

you can also use iodine tablets to purify water for drinking...very inexpensive...

  • you should build a thermosyphon air heater..less than 100 dollars and it would reduce your need for wood fire and labor...i have vid and plans for free if you are interested. nice video and the music is pleasent

  • Cheap way....Fill your tank with alternating layers of charcoal and sand. Strain with fine mesh. Then boil it if you plan to drink it.

Since you live near river or stream... you can drill for water till you reach the water line and make a well.

  • we could do without the background music....

  • Nice place. Looks like you have enough of a stream flow and drop to run a micro hydro generator for power. You could use a filter and then an inline UV light to purify your water from the storage tank.

  • basic but pretty good...i wish i had one..

  • Very Nice guys!

Have you thought about making a spot for a good garden? looks like you could grow lots of food there

Also what about some Chickens (for eggs) and maybe a couple of Goats (for milk)?

....Ohhh and what about a couple of dogs

And why do you really need a well with all that water all around you?

  • wonderful setup guys, thats j/ great!

  • veers da vodka?

  • Best is get a guy come in and drill a well

Not sure where you live but in Canada you need to have the toilet system inspected.

  • Here is a suggestion for the well. Rent a 90 pound jackhammer w/ large air compressor, buy some 10' lengths of threaded 2" galvanized pipe w/ couplings, buy or fabricate a sand point, drive the pipe down around 30' deep if possible, get a hand pump and attach 25' of 1" pipe and insert it into the 2" pipe and start sucking water. Total cost with rental, pipe and pump around $500, and electric pump will be about another $100. Not bad for all the cool, clean water you can use.

  • Thank you . Land mines, wires and other good staff is reserved for emergencies on;y :) Peace

  • But you are missing two things; an AK-47 and an M-60...lol.

And do not forget to surround the house with trip wires, land mines and bungie sticks.

    And one more thing.

Sell the poison ivy lotion, make yourself a fortune and move to Carmel.

  • I can dig it! P.S. Boil the water.

  • so when it all goes down your good to go

  • Sort of yes

  • Nice place you have.

Charcoal filters for water. Watch out for giardia in the water ( nasty parasite). Camp stores sell hand-operated water filtration pumps. For hot water, try a solar shower- black plastic. Plant a variety of berry bushes. Get books on medical stuff and running a self-sufficient household in case the internet is unavailable. Build a root cellar if you put in a garden. Learn to can or dehydrate foods.

  • Thank you!

  • Is your house a modified outbuilding that you often see displayed in a LOWES parking lot? It looks just like one. I've thought of converting one. I would look into a small solar power unit for radios and such. Sailboats often use very compact units that run on 12 volts. RV stores sell just about any appliance or gadget that runs on 12 volts. For drinking purposes just boil your water first and pour it through a coffee filter if you want. Another way is to distill a small amount using sunlight.

  • serene, great place...I would live there in peace no problem!

  • What the hell. I'd chill there even if there was no collapse coming.

  • Definitely, we do that. We are not sitting and waiting for something... :)

  • @JurkoffJay i agree it looks like fun

  • Preparation for a great life!

  • Great place, that you for showing us your home!

  • Nice! What a beautiful area. Good job on your preparation!

  • MUSIC MUCH TOO LOUD!!

  • awesome ideas

  • Beautiful land and place to live. Your lucky to have the water close by too. We are trying to find some land now for the same purpose of survival knowing not much time is left. Great Video.

  • great video- sweet place to. Unplugged, except for taxes ey :)

  • Yep, almost unplugged. :)

  • you could also put a small natural dam up on the far end of that creek and crank out a little electricity from it. check otherpower net

  • Yes research diatomaceous Earth water filters.

Also if you can get a small bit of pressure, a watts reverse osmosis (filter does not need power).

  • Love it!!!

Just key in 'Berkey' on Ebay. Got mine and that thing will filter pond water!

  • we need more people like you...

    once we start respect nature...

    it will pay back...

  • good stuff!! thx!~

  • wow thats quite a nature pad. great video.

  • As far as getting the water from the creek, get a Nemo 12 volt water pump, a golf cart battery, and a solar charger. Pump the water into a holding tank at the cottage. If you elevate it above the area you need the water, you will have a gravity powered water system in the cottage. Or you can sink a perforated culvert in the ground next to the creek to capture and hold seepage from the creek, and simply carry it up to the house in buckets....

  • Will research that. Thank you

  • Captured rainwater should be easy to run through one of those Brita water filter pitchers for drinking. We drank and cooked with water from a cistern under our house when I was a child. We didn't bother to filter it - just pumped it up with a hand pump at the kitchen sink. Or if that still makes you uneasy, you can build a sun-powered water distillation unit.

  • Here we are. Be bold and do not afraid to try it out. Appreciate that advice.

  • You Rock!!! Great Job!!!

    Peace.

    John.

  • Thanks John. Peace
