Dentists don't do that here. Only in special cases they use total anaesthetic, but you need to go to a clinic. It's not necessary either for taking a wisdom tooth out.
@filzah102 Nitrous oxide has a documented effect of causing sensations similar to being high. This intoxicated condition, predictably, severely clouds judgement and pain reception.
Not all patients experience the same thing. I sure as hell didn't.
This type of anaesthesia induction can be quite dangerous! There are elements of laryngospasm in your airway (the gasping as you breath in) and your body is clearly going into an excitation plane of anaesthesia (when you wriggle around the chair) without an IV there is a real risk of coming to harm. I hope you had an anaesthesiologist looking after you and not a dentist just administering gas. But... You did look like you were having a good time ;-)
This looks a little bit fake to me especially as it's zoomed in close the reaction to the gas is not quite right is that why it's been uploaded by soFAKINGsoph?
You don't want the gas if you can get the IV. Going under IV anesthesia is much less unpleasant than gas. It'll hurt for about 5 seconds for them to put an IV in and that's it. I once had gas and felt like I was dying while going under. The past couple of times I've been in surgery I got the IV and asked for sedating drugs before I was actually put under. Don't remember a damn thing. The difference is that with gas you have to go straight from wide awake to unconscious.
first breath you smell the stuff, second breath the buzzing comes in your ears, the third breath brings strange hallucinations and the fourth you were out like a light
What a wonderful video. How long before the video start did you get the mask on your face? What is the smell of the gas? What did you feel during the induction? I am asking this because I am considering to be put under using gas. Thanks again for the fabulous document!
@hexabit2 probably like 15 seconds maybe? getting to sleep doesn't take long at all- two minutes tops. but i think i was out in a little over a minute. the smell of the gas really depends on who the anesthesiologist is/what they do. but mine put chapstick on the mask to make the gas more bearable. after they put the mask on its kind of like a tingly cold feeling just goes over your body and you can't fight it at all. you just feel exhausted, your eyes close and then you go to sleep like normal.
@S0FAKINGSOPH Thanks for the exhaustive answer. A few more question... For which procedure did you get the mask? I hope the procedure had gone well. Do you remember how many deep breath it takes before the gas start to take effect, and how many before you are knocked out? Also can you tell how the wake up feels?
@martycatron honestly, even though i was laughing my face off i was extremely tired. i felt my whole body tingling and it's really unfightable. you try but fail. miserably. and then the next thing you know your eyes close and you fall asleep. just like if you were going to bed.
do you want to know what its like for gas or IV? General Anesthesia or Conscious Sedation? I have had alot of different drugs used for many of my surgery's so what ever you want to know just reply to me and ill tell ya in detail if I know.
@lrich65184 yeah the gas is gross but i haaaaate needles and they put chapstick on the gas so it doesn't smell that bad. kind of like getting that shit in your teeth when you go to the dentist..it's totally bearable but not pleasant.
haha very funny, most people don't like to inhalate the anesthesia gas. IV is much faster that's true, but this way makes it funnier. How long does it take before you get to sleep and how did the gas smell? Greetings from holland
@ReneNicolai77 well as soon as the video ended i was asleep...but i don't remember most of it. probably like 20 seconds of it i can. then after that i thought i had fallen asleep.
@jopperjojo no i was already out. the last thing i remember is saying "i think it's working" then i thought i fell asleep like 5 seconds after that. but i guess not.
i started laughing at 0:41

Try to picture a very strong smelling after shave, that's kind of what it smells like. Fairly sweet and not at all unpleasant.

I am consternating getting gassed due to not liking IV's for upcoming surgery. but I have heard the gas smells. Did it smell bad or did you even care
