  • i live there .

we literally can count on having fires every single summer.

  • That fire storm is one I would not want to experience looks like some scary shit if your on the receiving end.huge!

  • i remember living in enderby B.C and we almost got evacuated but they stopped it before it got worse.

  • :[ I could see it the smoke from my house B.C

  • The motto of every BC'er - hope for the best, prepare for the worse!

  • That fire scared me so much!! I was only a young child at the time... now looking at the mountains, life has sprouted once again.

  • I was a young child--- remembered walking on the dock, watching the smoke go into the atmosphere and the fire burning the trees. =[ That fire scared me so much. =[ I still get chills watching the memories.

  • Little known fact - the NEW BC GOV'T of the day had just laid off thousands of trained FF that year (including me). Many of us volunteered for free to fight these fires and were refused (15 years experience! at wildland firefighting).

I used to live in Kelowna and wanted to help, but my services were deemed "not useful"

    Signed, didn't vote Gordon Campbell

  • woah this video is old

  • i could see the smoke oliver B.C

  • If the fire was coming to my house i would probably swim into that huge lake.

  • i got evacuated and my neibours house burned down:(

  • I lived by Rotary beach when this happened, talk about too close to comfort.

  • I sense some deja vu... Glenrosa, Terrace...

  • horrible time in kelowna's history... great how the community pulled together though. i hope were not in a repeat right now with terrace mountain fire like right near me!its burning 4000 hectares right now and its un controlled..... PLEASE RAIN

  • dis shit dont happen on the east coast.....nothing actually happens here

  • Now they have to fight 3 fires on Westbank's side. They're doing another amazing job fighting these fires. I'm an evacuee of the Glenrosa fire and they've done so well getting it under control. I hope we never see a fire like this again.. it was awful. I remember it. I hope Westbank doesn't burn like this.

  • dude i remember this fire i was like 6 and my family had to go up north to quesnel for a while cuz my grandma was having a hard time breathing and we were/r living in winfield

  • dude i live there now and right know there is 2 big fires!!!!!!!! :( so scary!!!!

  • I lived right across the lake, and the beaches were packed with people watching the flames, and everybody was glad it wasn't us, the folks in westbank. And now it is.

  • I hope the fire doesn't end up like this...

  • Thats was such a horrible fire!! I lived so close to it and it was scary!!

  • that fire was so scary... so happy that my family didnt have to evacuate

dude, good song, i love the prodigy

  • i lived like 30 minutes away in penticton it was so smokey out side!

  • OMG!!!! I just moved to Kelowna from the UK last month and I heard that this was a dreadful fire and now thanks to your AWESOME video I can see just how bad it really was!!!! Thank you for sharing this.... Mike

  • It was terrible... Fire all around me.

  • bet you can see for yourself now..hope ur home is all good.

  • yeah i lived right across the street from mission creek park and we got evacuated it was so hard to breathe outside so smokey i hated it but it was also kinda cool to look at it was kinda cool but it sucked at the same time;

  • The Firemen got way too much credit for their effort. Yes they did a great job in the neighbourhoods, but it was the forestry workers and the army in the thick of things.

  • Wow, what an ignorant prick. The thank you messages were clearly for all of the firefighters involved (forestry firefighters, military and regular firefighters).

  • Additionally, too much credit? how many hours have you volunteered to the fire service?? Have you entered an involved structure fire to attempt to save someone? When was the last time you did CPR for 20 min on someones broken body at a MVI before the paramedics showed up and made the call to stop resuscitation? Do you know what it looks like when all of the skin comes off a burn victim and sticks to your bunker gear?

  • i was living on the westside when this happened. this was so scary the fires were huge, lots of my friends that lived in kelowna their houses got burned down and after the fires it was like a bomb went off in the area and it was so sad

  • i lived close to there and it was horrible!

  • This was something, we got evacuated for few days so we went to my friend house and I think 2 days after the evacuation an other fire has been started by some kids on the Westside but they cleared it pretty quick.

I was working outside all days, nothing enjoyable.

  • OMG i remember that it was VERY VERY VERY VERY scary and BAD I got evacuated for a week it was hard we moved like 3 times

there where SOO much ashes in our pool when we got back to our house and it smelt funny

after like a week it was sooo BLACK in the sky i couldnt see anything

    i couldnt BREATH

HOPE it doesnt happen again :(

  • wow that was something and i hated it i lived right accross street from mission creek park and i could barelly breath i had gotten evacuated for 4 days it was really something

  • who here lived bye mission creek park back then

  • Im lucky I moved because i lived near there. and my cat also got lost around there and yeah she probably got burned :(

  • I remember this, the sun turned orange and you coulnt breath for more than like 90 seconds without coughing, i lived RIGHT across from mission creek park at the time... they have horrible thunderstorms like today lighting was touching eachother

  • i no that was insane i was so scared man the distance it went

  • I live in S.Kelowna and watched the mountain burn behind my home, which was in the evac zone...it was incredible!

  • i go to kelowna every summer in august and when i was there in 2003 you could barelly see the mountains there was so much smoke.

  • Great video!

  • i live in lower mission, so 5 mintue drive to nearest destroyed home. i remember being evacutated for 5 days, and all the smoke and such. when the fire first started, no one expected it to come across that distance.

on first day of school after this, i remember at the assembly where the principal asked everyone to raise there hand if they had lost their house. about half the gym (500 students) put up their hand.

  • lol yeah i remember that it wasnt fun at all. i also lived right accross the street from mission creek park so i had the same thing as u i got evacuated for 6 days though. i do not want that to happen again. i dont live by there anymore i still live in kelowna though bye!

  • Whatchin that shit from across the lake was insane, we had a layer of ash on the trampoline

  • i was very close i was livin in east kelowna very sad i remember and im cry .

  • shit... that sucked ass when all this went down, was in blackmountian when it went on evac.

  • do they still pull dudes out of their cars to fight fires?

  • HAHA no they dont pull guys from thier cars to fight fires

  • just a question...were men gragged against their will to fight the fires?

  • I just went hiking there today where the fires where! The trees are still black and chared and some are still red from the fire retardent stuff

  • Nice Tribute.

  • i live in rutland. i remember that.. it was freaking INSAINE!!!!!!!!

  • did they ever determine what caused the fire? i cant remember

  • Lightning

  • oh ok

  • wow, i remember this.

  • I live in Rutland but i moved here after these fires. You can still find lots of reminders of them when walking in the woods.

  • I live in the Upper Mission. Close to were the scene hit. We got evacuated immediatly, and the side of our house was all black and burned. We were right at the top. It was pretty scary.

  • yyyyyyep some memories for me^_*

  • We'd moved from OK Falls to Back Mountain, Kelowna during august of 2003, there was a fire in OK falls and in Kelowna... Damn, we were screwed.

  • I moved away from there in 2000 :o

  • Quien hace la musica? who play the music ?

  • Prodigy - Firestarter (sounds like a remix)

  • great vid ,, perfect song .. good job

  • Great video!

  • 1. yes knox does beat all the schools W00T for dr.knox. 2. that was one fuckin scarey fire i was so close to it that my house and our cars were coverd in black ash and dust and i almost had to evacuate casue they thought it would come right over the back hill behind my house if it didnt get controled

  • Bad Memories...

  • That was not a true 'firestorm'. A firestorm is a rotating vortex that 'chimneys' ultra-hot fire gases up to the tropopause while drawing in ground-level air with hurricane force. Think Hamburg, Dresden, Tokyo...

  • so what if it wasnt a true "firestorm", it still was pretty bad!

  • Really? I guess those 100km winds incinerating 400 houses (of which 40 were inside of a few minutes) was just a co-incidence. Whew..what a relief.

Good montage of photos by the way.

  • Brings back painful memories.

  • I remember standing on my roof in rutland and watching the flames. They were at least 3 times as tall as the trees around them. And watching the water bombers on the lake! that was sweet!

  • I go to Knox

  • what song is this?

  • firestarter---prodigy

  • We had burning embers swirling around my front door a few days before we were evacuated, thankfully we didnt loose our home either but it was really scary for a few weeks.

  • Wow, Really good job!! That was intense.

  • I was also there. My parents house almost was burned down in Kelowna. These are a few days I will never forget!

  • I live there also. It was intense.

  • I live there. some days the smoke was so thik u couldnt c your hand in front of u

  • fire = no fun and loss of house ><

good job on the video tho ^.^

  • Lol... I live in kelowna too.. I was evacuated for about a week.. The smoke was quite, you could probably see for about 100 meters at least.. What school do you guys go to? I go to OKM

  • KSS

    =]

  • cool.. :)

  • i got to knox Whoot! im at K.S.S. next year though.
