i know its bad for them, but i was definitely cheering your puppy on! haha. he is adorable. i remember when my golden was a puppy. he is 13 and still kicking. such a great dog! my family has taken him everywhere, even when we lived in Europe. he loved eating out with us in Germany! take good care of him and Jesse will give you many happy years and even change the way you look at the world yourself :)

when my golden was a puppy he got to the top of the stairs once, then CRIED so hard cuz he was scared he was stuck and too terrified to go down.. obviously i helped happily cuz he was so cute being so sad over such a silly thing like stairs.

never ever ever let them walk up or down stairs. It causes alot of damage to their hips. They need to take it easy when they are puupys. There hips are still developing. Even at 4 months!!!

He wasn't confident enough to handle steps then, so all he's doing is pacing back and forth. In the weeks ahead, I let him test his capabilities at his own pace. First time he climbed steps it wasn't outside but inside the house, safely, on carpeted stairs. After that, it was (as they say) off to the races . . .

@mikeettner. fuck that. when this dog is ready to go down stairs, he'll just go down. as long as you don't force him by thrusting him down, the dog will be fine. there's always gonna be some douche telling you how to raise your kids or animals. fuck them. common sense will simply lead the way. i especially hope so in this case since this dog is so rad.

@04danhyn ... so when is it okay to let a young pup do something like that? is it b/c bone structure needs to set, or tissues? i've seen hip displasia (spelling) in older dogs and i want to prevent that at all cost... so it's a matter of restricting your pup to certain movements until a paticular development stage?

Dogs who is still growing shouldn't climb stairs even if they want to. As mentionen it will overload their joints. Also dogs have problems walking down stairs that age. For some reason they have problems judging the distance. Something about there eyes development.

But it is a very cute dog. I have a 6month old Golden myself. One of the smartest races on the planet. Can almost get them to deal cards!

Get a spray bottle and spray him in the face when he starts to do that. I've never used this method myself, but I've heard it works. You could also clap really loudly.. it'll distract him for a bit. This is what a use with my cat, but it only works for so long before he starts being a jerk again.

How old is your pup by the way? Maybe he needs more chew toys.

he is almost 4 months old. he is getting better. i bark at him when he tries to bite, and keep his mouth closed. he gets mad and starts barking right next to my arm, but doesnt bite. it is so cute and funny. but im glad my arms are getting better, and so is he.

When he bites you, ignore him for a while. That's the way his brother would do that and that's the way I did it with my golden retriever.

It works, and it doesn't hurt him physically.
