This engine was built for NASCAR in 1964. Chrysler used the 426 hemi in 63 and embarrassed the Ford camp at Daytona with their hemi engine. The following year Ford countered with the 427 SOHC hemi engine. It was shot down by Bill France Sr. It never saw a NASCAR race, but it saw plenty of duty in drag racing, Top Fuel and A/FX or Prostock Racing. This engine dominated in this era. It sent many mopar 426 hemi's home early.Sadly it never saw a production car. Google the engine, it's still made.
I too would really like to know where people are finding these 427 cammers at Ive read all about them and done all the research but Ive never been able to find one... and I think my 68 f-100 custom cab deserves this under the hood. not that theres anything wrong with 450hp 390
the 390 Ive got is a 68 block 2 bolt main stock crank bored 0.030 over flat top speed pro pistons 64cc 360 heads mildly ported with Crane springs lifters and pushrods a Crane dual profile flat tappet cam 512 lift 272 duration and 114 degree lobe seperation a factory GT mid riser intake manifold topped by a Holley 750 double pumper and Hooker long tube headers 1 3/4 primaries and 3 1/4 collectors running out 2 1/4 dual straight pipes.
My friend Roman wrecked my 61 ford that it was in so Im now going to put it in my 68 F-100 Custom Cab, aught to be a pretty fun truck gotta do a little more work on the motor before it goes in though
that sounds like a pretty healthy motor. Got any vids of it?
I also have a 390, '68 2-bolt block, standard bore, factory dished pistons (2v motor) 9.5 CR, rebuilt 390 GT heads with larger valves, lunati lifters, springs, and VooDoo cam, 262/268, 219/227, .540"/.552" (int/exh), 110 def lsa, Edelbrock Streetmaster 390 single plane intake, and 750 Performer carb, Hooker super comp long tubes 1 3/4 primaries, 3" coll, full 3" exh and Dynomax Thrush welded mufflers
Now that's a motor. Good to see it out and driven again

Nice car! Thanks for not putting in some Corvette engine and sticking with a Ford. Nothing worse than a Chevy engine in a Ford car.

For those looking for SOHC 427s DOVE engineering in the USA is making just about everything you need, and in alloy. just go searching.
