  • one of those rare songs that builds slowly through the whole song into a heavenly crescendo

  • Comment removed

  • Agreed a great great and criminally underated album this. Fantastic. However, being fair it has to be said this song is a rip off of Champagne Supernova.

  • i like the crazy guitars like screams beside his voice

  • this song and the album its off are so so underrated. one the the albums of the 90's. So so very good from start to end.

  • love the album so much!

  • Im even sad to say that I would like someone off the xfactor to sing this song so it gets some airtime, to show how truely AMAZING this song is!!!

  • Trop belle chanson <3

  • really like this song, but that little piano bit every now and then really puts me off, sounds so out of place, like it shouldn't be there

  • @Graffasus yeah I think your on about the tail end of the verse, the bit where it goes de-do do do-de-do far too often. I think your right, now you mention it.

  • Don't go ...Stay ,this time!!!

    ...

I'm feeling like this song right now.

  • look at that! they used to actually play music on mtv!

  • Sorry, but where is the 'Change of Heart' it was on the youtube, but now I didn't find it, please upload it again!

  • Mind one year i was at t in the park - then monday went to see him at qmu - dont get any better than that peeps - high as a kite, shagging aw weekend , weather was like in barbadoss .

Great album - defo an under rated artist ,

  • such a good song

  • The whole album is extremely good!

Though lots of good reviews it sadly didnt do well.

Best tune? Without doubt the titletrack "people move on"!!

  • its so sad that we forget about brilliant songs like this untill we come across them here on you tube! i always loved this and still do , reminds me of my youth .

  • great memories

  • Yes, it is good, There is an old Suede b side called The Big Time, pooetic

  • Braddyboy-I could not agree more. Suede, Bernard Butler, McAlmont and Butler (especially underrated second album, (Bring it Back-buy it and enjoy it people,) and The Tears as well. Bernard Butler simply isn't involved in rubbish music. Class.

  • Oh god, i bought this on a cassette single when I was about 10! I still love it, I forgot how good it was.

  • Amazing!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • deserves to be help in higher regard..... Great song...

  • best english guitar player.

  • @jarvismusic: I don't think Bernard would agree - he always touted Johnny Marr as the greatest. Personally i would go for julian Swales; but then why choose? All were geniuses.

  • i hadn't realised it was so long ago!

saw, or didn't see because the place was packed, bernard at the lomax in liverpool. we f*ckin love you, bernard.

  • Bought this record when it first came out and I was still in highschool. Thought I was the only person who knew it existed.

  • Great voice!

  • One of the most CRIMINALLY underrated albums of the 90's.

  • @braddyboy82 Agreed, and it is still in my top 20 easily. A beautiful, grand record that should have had the kids in the shops buying it. Sadly, prefab-pop was around the corner and ready to conquer the stupid world. I still love this album so much. His work with with McAlmont too. Superb.

  • wow he looks a lot like george harrison now adays

  • really love the vocals and the guitar bits . gdlk .

  • What an amazing amazing song, i´ve forgotten how good it is. Can´t stop listening again.

  • I love 90`s nostalgia

  • this is bombastic, magic and epic. and i dont know really why one wasnt succesful. the only songwriter which can musically make noel gallagher competition.

  • GREAT SONG

  • Start reminds me of Jeepers Creepers 2...

  • Okay, after just hearing Bernard on his own, I really think that if when in Suede, he'd sang with Brett, it could've been really special...

  • has bernard won a nobel prize?

  • talented artist - video reminds me a little too much of Radiohead's 'Just'. That is a class vid!!!!

  • what video came out first-- radiohead or bernards-- I honestly don't know? which is the chicken- and which the egg?

and -- which one of those came first-----sighh

Ill stick with knowing the answer on the video if you have it

    :-)

  • Radiohead's 'Just' was produced in '95, 'Stay' was around '97-'98. He's still one of the best guitarists around and I think all his other work is pretty awesome. 'Yes' is a personal favourite of mine.

  • Spot on! He's one of the greatest guitarist and 'Yes' is also my personal fav.

  • WoW... a song like this actually getting played on MTV... thats just insane.. anyway.. WILDWOOD WDOX!!! miss you :o(

music music music oh where have you gone...

  • amazing! bernard butler has such a good talent!

  • Fantastic

  • sounds like zep's rainsong

  • He's talented and all that but.... you have to wonder if the car had kept going and run him over in the video, he could have made a claim or summat and probably ended up with more moolah that he got for this song?????

  • WHAT A DOUCHE! BERNARD BUTLER IS HUGE everywhere in the english- and french speaking- worlds- EXCEPT in the US- and you make wisecracks! He is one of the most talented WRITERS AND MUSICIANS EVER

deal with it= what hit songs did you ever write JOCK?

  • A douche? Er o.k The French speaking world? Who cares what those cheese eating surrender monkey's think. You've obviously got too much time on your hands if my comment oiffends you that much. I did not say anything about his musical talent so wind your neck in.

  • I am not french you idiot- I am american- los angeles to be exact- + thanks for proving Douchebags come in all ages and of all nationalities ya narrow minded mama's boy

Wind your neck in? Is that white trash for calm down- or what? Stop hating Bernard because you got no talent ya loser

  • Well done son, you managed to write a whole paragraph without a spelling mistake!! What a clever boy you are....

  • jealous you don't hav ea life- or any musical talent?

NOT MY FAULT- go bother god-- or your worthless inbred parents- as its more their fault than mine

  • Godbotherer? Redneck? Worthless inbred parents? Go on American, spew your bile and childish insults. Its no wonder everybody on the planet hates your race. Try getting a passport and seeing a bit of the world before you judge....

  • I've seen far more of the world that you. you- bigot +do I need to even mention how DUMB u sound?

Stop being jealous of others- and enjoy what you have - not envy others who have what you don't. Even if it doesn't make you happier + sound a LOT less idiotic

Remember Korean storekeeper in the first scene in BOYZ in the Hood?"you make your mother ashamed-- how you act BLAM

Its about the personality - not the nationality- + you're a LOSER in both!

Its not MY fault you dont like us politics!

  • he's just jealous he wasn't in the wild ones video. o if you stay*~~ and i can never listen to his solo in one sitting -- his voice is just too sweet.

  • yes, so sweet. Stay is an epic song. He has no reason to envy the music video thing because he is the co-writer of the wild ones. XD

  • Barney gets chucked out of a motor. Meets death and reliases he's a dick and should have knocked out anoter Suede album. Still...great song. No voice. He sings with Anderson AND David McAlmont and reckons he's a lead vocal? Ego and talent combine. Really like his production on Duffys album. Hang in there Barney (ya mad bastard)

  • Oh, I'm a Barney fan, and reckon he is loaded with talent. I'm sure ego had something to do with his departing Suede, but I'm sure Brett--whom I also like--can be a prick himself. Yeah, he has an ear for sound. Would love to hear another Barney album, or with David. And Duffy is supreme--lots thanks to Butler!

  • Wonderful! Though I'm not sure about the poeple who say Bernard Butler should have been 'huge'. His work with Suede made him a star in the UK, his solo albums sold well, particularly the one this is from (People Move On) and he also enjoyed success with his other bands; had top ten hits with both The Tears and McAlmont & Butler-top talent and cool as you like :.)

  • this song makes me wanna masterbate and then swallow my load peacefully.

  • that is fuckin funny! gonna nick that

  • enjoy!

  • But that piano riff was horrible though.

This should have been more successful though.

  • just beautiful. Can remember crying to this

  • I want the 90's back :(

  • good stuff! nice chord sequence indeed. well structured song. builds and then the end is a return to calm.

  • Mick Ronson's spirit is in that guitar solo!

  • such an amazing singer... love ya butler! (luv his guitar 2... :))

  • he's coming back though, he's getting lots of compliments for his work with duffy, he's turning out to be an amazing producer.

  • very, very good song

  • the guitar play especially starting in 2:34 is massive!

  • This guy should have been huge. He's great. Terribly underrated.

  • intro/verse chords remind me a bit of "the rain song" by led zeppelin

  • You're the first person to spot this like I do. And that's why I love both songs.

  • why did he get thrown out of the car in the fist place i wonder?

  • am I the only one who finds this similar to champagne supernova?

  • I reckon so!

  • Similar sort of feel. However the fourth chord (the minor-major chord) is not something oasis would use

  • That is me at 3:34!!! I am the little blonde girl - My claim to fame haha ;)

  • that... is pretty dam cool. I bet you're still living off the royalties of that? hmm? swan sandwiches every day I imagine? How did you get a gig like that?

  • hahahahaaaaa.. child modeling :))))

  • a wonderful performance!! are you still modelling now??

  • nonoonoooo! I moved to England. This was when I lived in South Africa. No more modeling for me!

  • god this is really an amazing song and vid!

    why didn't i know this guy :S

  • Omg I miss the 90's :(

  • THOUSAND MILES better than Coldplay

  • What is Mr Butler upto these days?

  • he,s producing and co-writing with Duffy/if you type in duffy rockferry you can see what he is doing now

  • and sharleen spiteri ;)

also another big one, (though at the moment it slips my mind...)

  • Black Kids

  • did he produce them?!! even i won't teach him how to dance with you?

  • yes he produced their recent/first album, check it out at wiki, amazon or on ghis own site

  • You can't beat a deserted road trip with a kick ass tune.Love this song!!

  • Great song, love the way it kinda reaches the cool crescendo, prefered the original video though.

  • What was the original video like?

  • jeeeeeez this has got the tears rolling down my cheeks! how did i forget this song????????????

  • just a great tune , makes me think of an ex from way back , , , t in the park fri - sat - sun - out wir nut. monday night QM glasgow ,went to see BB , holds couple o hunderd max , Good times

  • I enjoy better Butler with Suede.

  • Brilliant song, hands down!

  • :/ Wish we could go back to the days when MTV just played music videos :/

  • blew me away hearing this again... thank you so much . x

  • I have Bernard Butler's second album, Friends And Lovers and it's quite good...regarding Stay as his best solo moment...it probably is, but it's rivalled be a track on Friends And Lovers called Cocoon...check it out, it's superb.

    Burns

  • I was always trying to figure out where that piano hook came from....It comes from Carole King's "It's Too Late"....

  • wonder why he got thrown out of the car by her women maybe he was babling on about guitar stuff and she got sick of it or maybe he was saying lewd stuff to her haha sorry i let my imaganation run like that but good vid though and good song

  • Thanks for uploading... Bernard Butler , John Squire and the likes are legendary guitarists... this is a cool video.

  • Miss the old days (90s) :P

    Suede...!

  • I too miss the 90's

  • nice video

  • Bring back the 90's. :(

  • Great song. I miss the 90s (sob!)

  • i agree....such easy years to live in...

  • Where did all that time go?

  • Beautiful, simply beautiful.

Probably my favourite song of all time.

I often see BB in my local Tapas in Crouch End but am too scared to say what a tune this!

To the idiot mentioning Oasis: BB has been around, knocking out great guitar riffs and writing stuff before Oasis. Suade were probably an influence on Noel Gallagher's 1D guitar playing.

  • I second that twattybollock re Oasis. While Oasis and Blur were acting the twats, trying to "out bloke" each other, Suede provided something amazing, rich and unpredictable. I adore Brett and Bernard and I do so miss Suede :(

  • Have you ever read the Stephen King short story "Crouch End"? It's quite creepy (in a good way). He wrote it when he was visiting a friend, fellow novelist Peter Straub, there.

Anyway back to Bernard Butler: he should be a superstar - he's incredibly talented.

  • such a cool video.

  • This song is so beautiful it makes me wish it was summer again and I'd be sitting by a lake eating ice cream with my man and our dear friends...

  • no....not the "angel" the lil kiddo in it right near the end....i was kinda small xD

  • I'm 16 again and melting to this song ;)

  • great song one of my favorites.

  • i know someone who acted in this shes a good mate now :P

  • Is it the blonde "angel"? If so, you're a lucky guy!

  • love this tune, 10/10

  • It´s so weird to hear this. This song got all the elements I missed in Suede´s Coming Up. Brett can only do simple pop songs, Bernard was the one with the necessary substance and the musical class to write epic songs. A shame they split up.

  • awesome, thank you for the sharing

  • haha! hey everyone! I'm the little blonde girl right near the end!!

  • cool........how was your experience with this video??

  • what i wanst in the vdeo lol my friend was when she was younger =D

  • gran personaje.. fue unas de las mentes de suede *.*

  • BB always had a great reputation as a guitarist &, in my humble opinion, 'Suede' were never the same once he left. I thought this was great when it first came out (can't believe it's ~10 years old!).

  • I saw seven ages of rock on BBC a while ago with the Britpop episode. Hard to believe its all over 10years ago now! My god i feel old!

  • Beside making his works with other artists is there any such solo comings of him? This is a great one as far as I am concern.

  • pish...

  • I remember being really impressed with this song as a solo effort, and the video is of course brilliant..it shoulda broke big here in America, but if I remember correctly, they only had it in moderate rotation on MTV 2 when it came out, and in most markets mtv 2 wasnt basic cable.. and u can imagine it recieved little if any airplay that I recall here.... what a shame..

  • always loved this song, am amazed it never went stratospheric in America, actually....

  • anyone know the uk chart positions for this song and "Not Alone"?

this is really great, prob Bernard's best solo.

  • "Stay" got to number 12 and stayed in the chart for 4 weeks. "Not Alone" got to number 27 and stayed in the charts for 3 weeks (from the guiness book of british singles and albums).

  • that's brilliant, cheers

  • beautiful song

  • Deserved to be a bigger hit!
