  • Curious. I do the drill but my fingers keep slightly touching the string below. they aren't bent. This just gets fixed with practice?

  • @TheMomoply fixed with good practice :)

  • Walt how about starting over when you are not satisfied or you can get to the idea of a little editing? iMovie or even better Final Cut will allow you to work on some basic fade in's to overlays or double screen.. Otherwise you absolutely right about scales! i play mainly rock and blues and it is amazing how much better my expression has become by doing basic scales. I can let my ear tell me where I am on the fret board and then overlay ideas that come without thinking of what "box" I am in..

  • @stratdoc i hate video editing :)

  • @stratdoc yep!

  • thats what i was doing every single day when i was in middle school! not sure if it worked out but def made a difference when changing chords :)

  • @luvmejaded yea more tutorials on my website!

  • There's even more. My musical mind has grown beyond that. Jazz, Fusion jazz, Classical, Latin, almost everything. Not just that metal anymore.

I know enough to be happy with my playing. And i'm glad i can say that! But i digress. What i'm trying to say is THANK YOU walt. If it wasn't for your help at the start, i would have been stuck on alot of things. But you not only helped me to conceptualize guitar! Your wise words and your irradiating passion gave me momentum. Thanks for that, walt.

  • @MikeTheGuy00 glad I can help you

  • WALT!!! You remember me bro? Not surprised if you don't. It's been more than a year hasn't it! But i like - participated in your web shows and all, learning things from you when i was just starting out.

It's been 2 years of guitar for me now. TWO! Haha.. not just that... i've laid a great foundation around my accuracy, my knowledge of the fretboard, scales - playing them in musical contexts, etc.

I can transcribe tons of songs. Even the tough ones too. Good work with chords!

  • @MikeTheGuy00 Mike The Guy!!!!!!!! What songs are you transcribing? Been a while since my Ustream days and tutorials!

  • @waltribeiro Lately, Lots of The Mars Volta, Mavishnu Orchestra and many other bands orienting jazz into their playing. The style gets addictive, haha.. though i'm referring to music i've learnt of late!

  • lol at 1:01 hes like okay you can stop now -_-

  • @EmissaryMusic3 hahaha

  • hey walt, its been awhile and I remember your live show you had like 1 year ago before you moved to new york and I wanted to know if you are going to do it again

  • @jakub426 no more live show. doing my orchestra music now. have you heard them?

  • ss

  • sss

  • thanks. good vid

  • HEY WALT! Remember me? I use to go on your StickAm stream and use that bot to login to the stream and spam and leave real quick so you couldnt ban me. Fun times huh :D

  • @caneut haha how are you?! miss you and yea those were good times. isn't it funny looking back?

  • @waltribeiro I'm gooooood. Actually started drums two years ago, picked piano up a few months ago after toying with it as a kid, and started guitar about a month ago. I'm teaching myself how to play and have gotten pretty damn good at drums but might have to start watching your videos :)

  • by the way, im also a left handed player

  • You need live lessons again

  • @Ranman46 yea i do!

  • Hey bro, hatsdown here, im in danger of practicing the wrong way and i was wondering if you could cover the following topics in one video.....

    - i can barre some of the stander chords (Ex. B, D, G) its like my fingers literaly cant form the shape in a barre form

    - im also having an issue with playing notes i pick up off tabs that look funny. for example, the one below is very confusing.

  • @HatsDownProductions make a video and send it to me

  • oops meant :) and I will try this 20 minutes a day sounds encouraging and feasible. Thanks for the video!

  • @mggmv7 how's it coming along?

  • I like you with a hat :?

  • @mggmv7 really?

  • ur lefthanded?

  • @wildwestpoint right handed

  • Really helpful video Walt, thanks a lot! I'll defiantly try this to help my, um, dexterity lol. I hope you keep making videos man. Later.

  • @bsf95 cool!

  • I do the 1234 and then the 4321, but the other variations are new to me I'm gonna try em out , ty. also I do 12 all the way up and down and 34 , then 13 up and down 24 as well, and to get me streching going I like to play 1 and 4 up and down ( good to warm up ).

  • audio gets out of sync by the end of the video.. one pattern i do is i start from say fret 5 on one string then jump up to fret 12 on the next string then back down to 5 on the next doing the pattern 1 2 3 4 on each.

  • I actually find teaching with open stings first. Just 0-1-2-3-4, just because It makes them move to the correct fret at the start. IDK, Just my opinion. :)

    Great video by the way.

  • pro much ?

  • @joemadly haha

  • Is John Frusciante a brother of yours?

  • @SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1 nah haha but i love his music

  • Is that a Dunlop Jazztone 208 pick?

  • @Hoopermazing no idea

  • hey walt.... i m so glad to see you again... btw Did you flip the video or you r left handed now....???

  • @lkdjsafkljsdf yea flipped accidently. haha how are you?

  • no it lags abit, still understandable though :)

  • im i the only1 that audio is lagging 4?

  • @wearblackclothes hmm maybe?
