Fantastic !!! 6 stars! I have not been able to get a coal. I used box elder spindle and fire board. They seemed to polish each other. I don't know how to tell cedar when it is just a stick on the ground.
the bow looks odd at this angle, pokeing at the camera, and your such a show off 2 coals in the matter of 3 minuets i once spent 4 hours trying this and i just wouldn't work
hahah im jk you not a show off your just good at what you do!
I get smoke, i have a perfect handle of the thing but i can't seem to ignite the fine charcoal powder i create, when i don't burn my hand with the drill holder. Maybe i dont have enough muscle as i'm a teenager just beginning to build muscle mass :D
That worked out great but must be a cody thing barefoot ember lol. I still haven't managed to get a coal need to try again when I get the ambition lol
I actually heard from a guy that box elder gets some of the lowest BTUs and therefore is nearly useless as firewood. Interesting that it would make good friction fire
@spacecowboy2k Cottonwood also is listed as one of the least efficient woods for burning and yet it is one of the quintessential fireboards here in the Southwest. I'm wondering if overall thermal output has little effect on the wood's ability to ignite.
@MrVoiceofreason123 very interesting, I think you're right, and probably a softer wood for fireboards is the key. Interestingly I've found a really thorough wood btu output chart at chimneysweeponline(dot)com(forward slash)howood(dot)htm
Cool man! Looks like real good wood. The cedar that is! Never heard of box elder :o)That worked fast !
My hearth is notched with the v wider at the bottom than the top. It seems to allow the coal to drop better and it stays put on its own when lifting the hearth out :o)
@Ggreenvideos I v notch and also make it slightly larger opening at the bottom. Like I said in previous comment, the camera angle must of just hidden it. Yeah I don't think you have box edler where you are. Great wood for carving too.
@SkogKniv Haha! Nope, no box elder :o) The angle looked like the notch was wider at the top and tapered down. :o) Someone gave you a thumb down?...haha Frickin' goofs!!! That's what ya get for trying to help people. I think we've all had it done...whatever :o)
@Ggreenvideos I have had some down right haters, nasty and rude hahaha some people just like to be like that I guess. That's why they invented the "block user" button =)
@SkogKniv Yup! I've had to do that a few times. Not allow the retarded comments. When my vids are on for a while comments are approval only :o) Some people just can't appreciate the education I guess F***em'...haha! Always a great job man :o)
I can cycle up massive hills but i still run out of breath trying to make fire :/

was the drill and the board box elder?

@bendotwood The spindle was box elder, the board was cedar.

Impressive. I had to see it to believe. My book says nothing with resin and yet you have produced a coal. OK. Rich you win the bet!

@spacecowboy2k I wish those sites would use Joules instead of BTU's or calories haha.

Very good. I'm wondering because of you holding the ember, when you cut the slot, is it with paralell sides rather than a V-cut?
TheBeebopper 1 year ago
@TheBeebopper I use v cut. Just a bad angle to see it I guess.
