Prior to the first gulf war, Iraq was a first world country. Then the U.S. came in and bombed hospitals and water treatment plants. That is sure to protect us from terrorism. You coward.

The American garrison in Europe is NOT meant to deter terrorism. Terrorism was never a military-level problem, 9-11 just gave Bush the public support he needed to "fix" the middle east.
People who say 9-11 changed the world are not thinking. the same rules apply that have always applied, since the dawn of time.

You are incorrect. The reason we are in the middle east is much more complex. There are resource interests, we're securing oil lines for Europe (not for ourselves).
It's also a money making venture for certain statist corporations in the U.S.
Then there is the underlying emotional motivation. You can look up psychohistory for examples of how all wars are psychologically motivated and irrational.
We aren't there to help people, or to stop terrorism. Because you can't fight terror with terror.

We were one of the first countries to make the people who live here real citizens, with those, uh, what were they called... oh yeah- RIGHTS. Every four years, we have a peaceful transfer of power, that doesn't end in a massive bloodbath in which the candidate with more guns wins.

We have relatively good medical care (I say 'relatively good' because it's absurdly overpriced), and we have kickass sanitation laws, which have helped the country's life expectancy rates to be some of the highest in the world. And, as I think I mentioned before, we as people are allowed to constantly bash the government that protects us without "disappearing" or being shot in the ass while shopping.

People that criticize the US for the long standing inequalities towards blacks and other minorities seem to make these criticisms in a historical vacuum. EVERY nation has MANY skeletons in their closet. RELATIVELY speaking, for it's TIME, the American Experiment was a glorious achievement for human rights. With the possible exception of England, no other country even toyed with the idea of a government with garunteed freedoms (for anyone).
