  • Dash 8 party 2010!

  • Yeah x3 Have you seen the other videos I made of the party? x3

  • it was a b36-7 and i have seen them often lately on the mow trains on the blue ridge sub

  • I wish they were still mechanically intact.

  • dont know what you been smokin man but thats not the oldest unit on CSX roster. CSX still uses some B39-7s and 8s on locals and some yard moves. every now and then i see some on a locomotive consist in a mixed freight

  • Prove me wrong. CSX retired every Dash Seven on their active roster by November 2009. The only operating Dash Sevens anywhere on the CSX are either slugs or load test units, such as WLO 2 in Waycross. Furthermore, the designation 'B39-7' does not exist. (Either B36-7 or B39-8...and CSX hasn't had B39s since at least 2004!)

  • @SpeakerPolice CSX still has a B23-7 in use by me on a local train in GR

  • Can you provide a road number and/or a photo?

  • @SpeakerPolice csx 9249 i sent you a message of a video on youtube of it working around gr this summer

  • @snowboard20356 my bad it was recent in december

  • As I suspected, CSX 9249 is an RCPHG4, a type of unpowered slug. She can no longer move under her own power. While still looking just like a B23-7 on the outside, her engine has been semi-permanently deactivated and is now just dead weight. D: Notice that her radiators have been plated over, and her stack removed.

  • @SpeakerPolice Aha i do see that hmm wonder what the reason is for that? I saw them calling it a drone

  • Spending less on fuel. A slug (or drone) is an engineless unit that retains its traction motors. It is connected to a REAL locomotive, and gets power for its traction motors from the locomotive. This provides ALMOST as much power as two locomotives while using half as much diesel fuel.

  • makes sense that's kinda what i figured it was for thanks for the good info though

  • sounds like it needs a tuneup

  • Nope, she's runnin' just fine. ;3

  • my 2 favorite engines

  • @alexander1485 well, C40-8s without the wide body cab

  • For an old model CSX keeps her well maintained and painted

  • I'm glad. ^^

  • @TrainFan84 i heard the ALCO ghost man it sounded beautiful

  • Many have heard the ALCo spirit, still alive and well, living inside the 7FDL engine. :3

  • @SpeakerPolice they must be Revived or when the 7FDL engine goes there ghost may vanish

  • The 'knock' is still there in the GEVO engine, but it is very subdued.

  • whats that little snort at 1:01 i love that noise on my models

  • That would be the sound of the trainline brake air compressor kicking on. :3

  • Where is this?

  • CSXT Taft Yard, Orlando, FL

  • Yes, it is indeed there. :3

  • What, just now? I thought they were all retired December 2009!

  • I'm getting one of these in HO soon :)

  • Nice! What road number?

  • @SpeakerPolice 5966-Atlas

  • Very cool! Will yours be in this scheme, or the newer YN3?

  • @SpeakerPolice YN3 actually, but these unit's cabs along with the C39's and the C40's are so good looking.

  • They do look nice. I like it when I'm out and I catch a C40-8. They're still out there, for now!

  • though, occasionally you'll see one or two. and to think that 5 years ago, they were not extremely common, but common enough to see working hard. I wish the C30-7's were still chugging away. a true work horse, even if they were older than 30 years old. they out lasted the typical life span of a locomotive. of course, they were built to last.

  • Dash 8s are still around; Dash 7s, no. Those were all retired from the CSX system in November 2009. They all has aluminum (!!) wiring, which went bad and caused them to be retired. Had they been wired with copper, they would probably still be around!

  • takes me back to the 90's...I still remember seeing dash 7's and dash8's...and I was only 4 or 5. I wish they had not done away with them.

  • I really miss the Dash Sevens myself. :'(

  • one thing that I can think of that GE's can do that Baldwin diesels cant is be lashed up with other brand locomotives.

  • I think you're right; Baldwins can only MU with themselves.

  • I hate to be such a rivet counter, (lol) but -8's are not exactly the oldest model. There are -7's (but these units no longer have motors in them) series 91xx, 92xx :D

  • I can rivet count right back. xD The Dash 8's are the oldest LOCOMOTIVES on the roster; the 9xxx series aren't locomotives--they're unpowered slugs. ;) And some of those units actually do still contain their prime movers for extra weight--they've just been deactivated.

    ^^

  • @SpeakerPolice lol :)

  • at the beginning it started to sound like a steam locomotive! lol

  • Kinda did, yes! xD

  • I love the B40-8.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome 8D

  • I have a yellow one like that, but mine came from Conrail. =)

  • Thank you ^^ Sounds like a nice model! Call me when you find a sound system that can rattle the picture frames on the wall. xD

  • That would be the air compressor for the brakes kicking on. =)

  • I wonder what the "Shwa" sound is at 1:00 . Air compressor?

  • That's exactly what that is. xD

  • @SpeakerPolice AWESOME! I GOT AN A!!!

  • Haha xD

  • @shadowknight227 i love that shwa sound

  • Air compressor. xD

  • great video. awesome HD quality! what kind of camera are you using?

  • Thank you! I use a Kodak EasyShare M1033 point-and-shoot camera.

  • I have never seen a B32-8 before, no. I believe it's the 12-cylinder equivalent of the B40-8; the B40 having 16 cylinders. NS had several and CSX a few, but I believe they are all long retired.

  • I dont normaly go alot on GE's but that sounds nice!! Much better than an ES44 or summin.

  • You got that right! xD The 7FDL is a pretty nice-sounding engine, especially on these older units before the EPA went crazy with the muffler laws. xD

  • Sounds funny starting up. You can hear the pistons!

  • Yeah! It sounds awesome. 8D

  • @SpeakerPolice

for sure pretty awesome. At my hometowns rail yard they never shut off their locomotives

  • LOL, they idle for very long periods so they can be ready for action at any time.

  • I coul try 2 find some pics and send them to u if u want.....and ya....the dash 7's are from what the late seventys and sd40s are what from 1965

  • That'd be awesome! GE built most of the Dash 7's in the early to mid 80's, and the GP40-2's were made starting in the mid-70's.

  • @SpeakerPolice ya....i think your right there...ill go look them up soon

  • esse é um dos videos mais perfeitos que ja assisti para a audiçao do som desse motor GE !

  • Obrigado =)

  • Wow, the Sound is good, really good!!!!

@Speaker police: is this Idle or Notch 1 2 3???

Say it me, please, this is very important for my MSTS Sound Construction

  • Thanks =) I believe it would be notch 2 or 3, it's higher than low idle. I'm not sure exactly which throttle position, though.

  • Weren't there a few B30-7's still active, in and around Waycross GA? The ex C&O units?

  • It's possible that the Waycross shops retained a couple Dash 7's for yard work, but I seriously doubt it. There are the WLO1 and 2, but those don't really count.

  • @SpeakerPolice Theres still a couple of C30-7's left at Selkirk for yardd service. AWESOME VIDEO!! i didnt know CSX still had these

  • Are you kidding me?! Pics or it didn't happen! 8D

  • Are you kidding me?! Pics or it didn't happen! 8D

  • @SpeakerPolice oops did i say C30-7's? i meant to say B30's but yes i actually saw them last time i was there which was in like march/april

  • Either or, any Dash 7 still in service is amazing! Where abouts is Selkirk? I might have to go see those units!

  • @SpeakerPolice ya it is amazing...i just dont know how much time they have left.....Selkirk is one of CSX's rail yards and it is in upstate NewYork pretty close to Albany...im pretty sure its CSX's only GE maitnence facility so that could be another reason why there based there.

  • I'd love to see some photos of those units one day. It's a real shame that the Dash 7's are gone, I think they were a lot younger than their contemporary EMD counterparts. (which are still in service!)

  • THEY RETIRED THE B36'S O_O OH NO!!!!

  • I know! I miss them already! D:

  • It really, really does. D:

  • Not anymore. =( They were all retired as of December 2009.

  • nice vid

  • Thanks =)

  • THE DASH 8 AFTER PARTY :D LOL

  • Yes! xD
