One of the best recorded albums of the 70's. Just plain clean and very Hi-Fi. Still carries on today as a perfectly recorded work. Not too much reverb, not too little. someday it will probably be rediscovered.
didn't realize shawn worked with paul buckmaster. always enjoyed paul's arrangments on cat stevens and elton john music. Shawn's arrangements remind me of buckmaster. Remember the first day I heard contribution, i was an aspiring singer. The quality of material, the voice the guitar it was all there big time.
One thing that I always loved about Shawn are the dynamics of his arrangements etc. I think it influenced me in my own performing, to vary the dynamics of things for an artistic flavor. His music is artwork for the ears.
Was introduced to Shawn's music by a high school friend and excellent musician himself, who had his "Bright White" album...thanks Dan Jenks! Phillips voice soars in this song. What a gift!
What a voice range Shawn has; a real joy to listen to his singing. His songs tend to have a lovely magic about them that allows me to escape from the problems of this world, if only for a little while.
@acolite138 I had never heard of Shawn until 1971 when a friend in Lexington, NE turned me on to this music. Music that can go down to the soul of the man. If you listen not only to the words, but feel the music. Definetly get my vote as one of the most awesome male voices of all time.................
@ghschnakenberg Shawn gets around, doesn't he? And what a smart fellow, not getting sucked into the music business machine ... even though I suspect he could have garnered a fair amount of financial success if he had. But then he wouldn't have been the man we love so dearly "not only the words, but feel the music".
God, what a glorious piece this is! It astounds me even after a thousand-plus listenings. How could I ever get tired of such music as this? It's God, pure and, well, not simple.
@ghschnakenberg NICE! Of course, it's the whole package of each of his songs, but that voice remains truly wondrous. Let us pray that it continues to do so for more decades.
Meanwhile, isn't it nice to see others trying to learn Shawn's material & techniques? What it's really going to take, is hugely talented people who become emotionally advanced enough to get to where Shawn comes from as he lives, creates and performs.
@Funandconsciousness After all the years of listening to Shawn I have found out that some people didn't even know of his existance........ those poor souls.... Also I have found other people like myself who from the first encounter with his music have become fans for life.......... Yes he is truly a gift from Heaven given to man for the enjoyment of all............
but the fact of matter remains, that we have to Change....and changes are the best way we can learn to be...each of us is on our own path of progression...each wonderfully unique and different
Who knew Shawn was from Texas? I'd never have imagined that someone so HUMBLE could have come from a place so full of its own importance. (or so we're led to believe).
Don't get me wrong, I've met some really cool Texans over the years...........
What Shawn did with his music is that he never was influenced or tried to fit in any musical model he did his own he did what he thought sounded good ans thats why hes so unique
Absolute masterpiece...It instantly reminds me when I was young and with friends often listened Shawn's music in a modified state of consciousness...thanks for posting
