Obamas only plan is to spend more of your tax money on government works programs and to raise taxes on the guys that currently pay your salary. If Obama gets his plan approved, you will be working harder for less money, and paying more of what you earn in taxes, that is if your employer isn't taxed out of existence.

Seems like a step in the right direction, but more should be done. For instance Gov. should partner with the private sector so that they could provide valuable insight and manpower. Another thing to prevent these projects from turning into a pork free for all a mechanism must be in place to monitor where the funds go. And finnally start making cuts in the federal budget and phase out programs that are no longer needed.

If you can pay 1/3 of the wage paid including benefits, workers compensation, over-time and vacation paid. As oppose to just an flat rate for example in China, with none of the regular benefits or human rights to produce the exact same product...if you were the company CEO which company would you shut down first? The American plant or the Chinese/India outsourced operations overseas?

Definetively, labor force cost is higher in america. But are they reflected on the products offered? Are we talking only of higher costs? Maybe we have to also consider management creativity to aim at a different market niche with high differentiation on product and service.

I don't understand why Obama is placing ALL this infrastructure focus on roads and road bridges. Bridges are bad, sure, but take a look at our dams, railroad system, levees, sewers, etc. Yikes! Besides, we already have a good highway system in place. It needs to be maintained and repaired, but new projects should be directed to the future of transportation (ie not gas-guzzlers on eight lane highways).

What is being created is a mass slave system where the money you get is just valuable enough for daily food and shelter. Of course it's not officially called or recognized as slavery because you don't see the slave masters with their whips. Instead what you get is homelessness and starvation. Has anyone thought of the fact that this huge stimuli that Obama is counting on jump starting the economy with huge public works will be done by anyone that's actually American? Or are we going to outsource to companies who will end up hiring illegal workers and there goes our money again, south of the border.

We need to have some measures in place that will allow for legal residents to get these jobs first. If not we will be facing a great depression really soon.

for one, he hasn't even been inaugurated yet! last i checked, it is 7 Dec 2008.

we'll see if the investments he would make shortly after he becomes president, are effective or not, and whether they are effective in staving off unemployment rates. 10 years later.

at that time, we'd be able to tell if he is a mad man that spent like crazy (which was exactly what Bush did, in a more destructive way), or is he actually a smart man with a vision.

So, this sounds like an enormous amount of civil jobs for those already in the system, when most of the millions of lost jobs were never there in the first place. These aren't stupid measures but nothing is speaking to the current carnage in this country. I remember watching thousands of "road" construction projects around me in MI. Tear up good roads, fix nothing, and pay the workers big salaries and packages. Let me think about this: It stinks.
