Watched this one last night.my heart was pounding!!but reading your comments has changed my perspective!should of guessed really but looked like he was at the top of the bridge when using the chain,scary

I just realized how they did this. It's made to look like he's climbing in the middle of the bridge where it's high but at 0:47 you can clearly see the shadow of the metal girders against a concrete embankment when the camera pulls down to show him swing the chain. So it's all filmed on different parts of the bridge and edited and yes, his backpack 'vanishes' at 0:28. So SURPRISE SURPRISE! The magic of good ol' TV strikes again! :-)

It's obviously not real but then that's 'reality' TV for you. NOBODY is going to tie a knot in a chain and toss it up into a crack and then risk falling a few hundred feet. In fact, it even looks fake when he shows his hands 'shaking'. And the train part is obviously fake - he gets on the train and then runs up to the engine room? If you ran towards a conductor within consent they'd probably shoot you or deck you with a crow bar.
