And I wont never get the nowadays-so-common, rule of music that playing fast equals no musicality and playing 2&4 equals means ur playing for the song.

If we talk about it overall, I think easily the hardest way (for me at least) is to play a song with lots of stuff but make all that what the song calls for. That if one listens the whole band, my drums wont jump outta whole pic.

I think MD/producer/artist/whoever hiring u is the ONLY who can say what to do and what to not. I dont think that for ex. Marcus Miller(btw look the live shows with Ron.. about 2 fast chops in whole concert) or George Duke or Stanley Clarke would hire Ron if he's not doing what they want him to do.

And yes music Is art, even if they did not want to every artist will be themselves... There can be similar styles but never exactly the same. Now that's not my point, cause I admire this guys and their devotion. However there's A little rule in music and is called No ego. Which this "athletes" are full of it, and it separates them from making Art to just playing fast and show-off to entertain you.

Coleman and Bruner in the same room. Wow. All drummers are not the same people. You have 'groove masters' who 'underplay' by comparison, because they feel the music in a different way. You have your "Olympians' like these two. You also have your dudes like Donati who seem to simply want to 'Go Where No Man Has Ever Gone Before". If everyone was a 'groove master', then you wouldn't be able to have searched out and commented on this clip that you hate so much.

Is there anything wrong with an 8th note feel instead of 32nd notes? Don't they agree with ?Love that less is more? Are they aware that a rest is also a note that needs to be play? Music is art... Not a sport. Is supposed to touch your soul, since music comes from The Lord, is not about if it is boring or not. Don't get me wrong, when I want to see a show I check out these guys, they are amazing, but I want to hear music I check out Gadd, Tony, Bonham, Carlock, Guilliana, daddy Dave, Nicko...

I've never seen Coleman perform a live show, a real gig, but I have seen Ronald B twice... And my arguments are still the same. Ronald played at the show almost everything he did here on a shed. You are who you are. And when you are that great (chops wise) you can't help over playing, and hitting so hard. Is like they have their own battle against math, always trying to play the most notes possible within a bar and it's tempo. My question is what for? What inspires you to play the most constant
