for me one of the most spectacular cars ever build...not soooo much horsepower though and i've heard it has a bad weight distribution...but damn that thing is killer cool and absolutely unique. the Mangusta and the Pantera Montella are just the best of DeTomaso...
@DireDiscoManeuver the chassi was the problem.it had(i think) a tunnel spine chassi that flexed like a snake with diarheea.it could kill you.i wonder if the restoration industry had/has a fix for that.
@yamahonkawazuki He was an argentinian that lived most of his life in Modena (near Maranello... Ferrari factory). He has produced sport cars in Modena in the 70' and 80' with italian style and american engines just like the Iso Rivolta, another great brand of those days. In Italy these cars didn't sell very well because Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati were taking the whole pie in the Gran Turismo market. As far as I know the Pantera and Mangusta have had better market abroad.
@bsbdok well they are not imports anymore. considering they are not imported to hte us. heck most of our american cares are built outside the us. and are more imported than hte toyotas, hondas and other makers
@yamahonkawazuki I said nothing about imports. Proof reading would definitely help. I'm the one that thinks DeTomaso Mangusta's are all flash and no substance. A four wheel Harley!
@bsbdok kinda made mention about imports in your comment regarding toyota and honda built in america, as american cars. to which i replied, " well theyre not imports anymore " i kinda se your POV on the mangusta, in your opinion, what would make it better?
@yamahonkawazuki OK, Sorry, the post I commented on is gone. I don't remember why I asked that question. I understand your thinking cars assembled in America, are American cars. I drove an American made VW for 11 years. There is nothing offensive about my question. De Tomaso Mangusta's were never made for competition and Nobody ever raced one. They are a "date car", for impressing women. Make it better? Re-install stock cam. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
ME GUSTA!!

1:40 argentinian flag and the mark of? anyone knows?
bababacardi 11 months ago
@bababacardi De Tomaso was an argentinian and "Mangusta" is the italian for mangoose. The weel badge is the combiation of these two things I guess.
diioriog 10 months ago
@diioriog so he was an argentinian building what is known as an italian car? or where were these built? if i am mistaken?
