Also, Lewis re-wrote the sprinting manual on how the 100 is run, he showed every one how to relax and pick up in the last 70m at take out your opposition. In fact, Lewis was so fast, he didn't even have to run fast times to beat his opponents, he just let other runners dictate the pace while coming though at the end! Legend.
Carl Lewis was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 84...the same year as they got Jordan, but he chose to stay with track and field. I only just found that out. Remarkable athlete.

Carl Lewis was banned for 6months for taking a stimulant NOT a steroid. Carl Lewis took pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, and/or phenylpropanolamine in order to stay awake or to calm nerves (which they should NOT do of course) but there is a big difference between that and what Ben Johnson took. Johnson took Stanozolol - a PERFORMANCE enhancing drug. One is a stimulant the other is a performace enhancing drug.

Because unlike other countries, Canada had a very long & thorough inquiry into drug use by athletes (look up The Dubbin Inquiry) and sprinter after sprinter & their coaches admitted under oath to years of drug use. Tha also showed BJ was using during the time he got the WR in Rome. It really killed off sprinting un Canada until DB & BS (1990's). But right now, we have no sub 10 second runners. Kind of odd when the WR is falling like a rock, no? Hmmm

I think they are better runners. The genetic differences are marginal but at the elite level they're apparent. Lots of black runners, lots of white swimmers/weightlifters etc.

Carl Lewis tested positive 4 times in his career, Michael Johnson twice. Many, if not ALL athletes from this era were drug cheats. It was a systemic thing, this cheating was run but "authorities" on a large scale. This was what Balco was about, not just baseball..

Man o man, its like every record that someone takes people will say he did drugs. Thats how warped people have become. People are just throwing labels out on people with no justified reasoning. CArl Lewis body has not changed all throughout his career, voice has changed yet people states he is on drugs with no reason. Carls races has NEVER had any dramatic differences than others. He tested positive in 1988, yet somehow the case was dropped by the US authorities - mostly because their poster boy being caught taking drugs would have destroyed the sport in the US. I think Carl Lewis is/was possibly the greatest natural athlete of all time, but he definitely cheated because he knew others were doing the same. What I can't accept is his santimonious bleating about Johnson and others.

mom2dave - When Lewis ran in the 80's it was an event to behold. Why? Sub 9's were just too rarely run. So when Lewis did 10 dead in 1979 at 19...people thought...Lewis who? Also, Lewis re-wrote the sprinting manual on how the 100 is run, he showed every one how to relax and pick up in the last 70m at take out your opposition. In fact, Lewis was so fast, he didn't even have to run fast times to beat his opponents, he just let other runners dictate the pace while coming though at the end! Legend.

Carl Lewis was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 84...the same year as they got Jordan, but he chose to stay with track and field. I only just found that out. Remarkable athlete.
